Mixed Marriage 2: The Conversion Continues..... now complete

On a normal not-going-to-Disney Saturday I was happy to let him sleep in but I still hated the snooze button. My feelings are that you should just go ahead and decide to sleep until 9 or 10 am and set the alarm accordingly . Don't kid yourself that you are getting up at 8 and annoy the rest of the household (ie me) every 20 minutes. DH is perfectly content to hit the snooze every 20 minutes for hours.

Maybe our DH's took the same Alarm 101 class. :rotfl: It drives me crazy. DH's alarm has nature sounds. Bird's at 5am. No thank you!

Also we both are really entertained by the billboards for South of the Border….my favorite is Pedro’s Weather Forecast-Chili Today, Hot Tamale. DH’s favorite is the one about “Keep Screaming Kids. They Will Pull Over”
Entertaining signage. I love it.

I got to read S E V E N chapters tonight. :cool1:

The next day is a park day,AK maybe. :Pinkbounc

I had set the in room alarm. I asked for a Mickey wake up call but didn’t tell the guys because I wanted them to be surprised. I also used my Jedi powers to tell myself to wake up early. (Back before I had babies I could do that.) And I did. Thus I was in the shower when the alarm went off and getting dressed when the phone rang.
DH answered it.
“NOOOooooooo” I whispered as I flung myself across the room. DH was too incoherent to notice it was Mickey right away.
“Let DS answer it” I hissed. Too late. By the time everyone was awake enough to follow directions and DS had the phone the call was over.
TwinkieMama’s magic moment #87 ruined. No problem. Everyone needs to get up and at ‘em because we have a bus to catch. DS wakes up and is given a pop tart to eat in bed. I think my number one all time pet peeve in the world is eating in bed. The crumbs .... they just get to me. I think it goes back to a field trip in the 4th grade… sorry… a very off topic digression has just been avoided. But anyway, we don’t eat in bed. We don’t even bring food upstairs to the floor with the bed rooms. Thus ,DS thought I had become certifiably crazy when I handed him a pop tart in bed. Hey, I don’t have to sleep in his crumby mess and someone else is going to come clean it up. Now that is a vacation. :teeth: I shepherd my DH to the shower and in an amazingly quick amount of time he squeaky clean and dressed. I throw a Ziploc bag at DS (the tip really does work well) and finish getting ready myself. The adults can eat and walk at the same time.
“Are we going to Disney World now?” Asks DS.
“Yes, but it isn’t the Magic Kingdom- we are going to see a different park today.” I replied. Yes, we have been over this before but it just doesn’t seem to want to sink in because to his little brain Disney World is the Magic Kingdom. We even go around in circles and at points I may have drawn a Venn diagram to help explain. It doesn’t matter because to a small child the Magic Kingdom is Disney.
We catch a bus and arrive at the AK prior to opening. There is quite a little crowd awaiting entrance. We join it and try not to melt. And then I see them… over in the distance....
There is this family of five and the mom has left the matching t-shirt wearers in the dust… because she has sewn matching outfits for the whole family. The girls are wearing jumpers in a bright green jungle print with a few big red flowers thrown in for excitement and the boys are wearing Hawaiian shirts made from the same fabric.
Now that is the ultimate in Disney geekiness. :3dglasses
Oh. I want to be her when I grow up….

when I added the table of contents today I reread the entire thread and I noticed all these great comments that I meant to reply to but somehow got caught up in my own little world
so hi Cazzie! thanks :)
Keilani5- thanks for the great tip on babysitting-I am trying to work my way towards that happy scenario- also for the huge compliment- it made me smile

basically hi to everyone on the first 3 pages- you guys are awesome-

another note: Yes, my DS is a real sweetie. He always has been. Since I am spending so much time in the past (using notes and old pictures and scrapbooks to help jog my memory) it is really weird to look up and see a middle schooler sitting where my baby should be.... especially as it seems that tonight at youth group he acquired a girlfriend....

PrincessL: :flower3: maybe we can meet up on a future edition of Oprah... you know "the swim-suit-forgetting snooze-alarm-hitting men and the women who love them" episode.....

semi off topic- notice that Utahmama is in da house on on the boards with her very own trip report?? Do not, I repeat, do not attempt to eat while reading her posts. You will choke... or spew... they are that funny.

I just have to tell you... firstly, I was only converted to the dis recently. Your first report was incredible - this one is phenomenal. I keep coming online a few times each day just to read the next installment. My hubby kept asking what I was doing with the "blog" thing. Last night, after having missed a few installments, I cut and pasted them to print and read while dh had a turn on the puter. This morning he found the hard copies - and AFTER reading through them - says, "Honey, you are an addict." He's right! Dis is fabulous but your reports started it all. LOL :rotfl2: Am I going to need a 12 step program to recover? Perhaps our upcoming trip will aid in my curing my new addiction. Patiently waiting for the next installment.... Okay, well, maybe not patiently but w-a-i-t-i-n-g. :goodvibes

Still loving it.

I appreciate the short installments in addition to your captivating writing style. They make it easier and quicker to read your TR.
I usually have to skip reading TR's because they are so time consuming to read. :surfweb:

But not yours!

Still need some twinkies to munch on. Do have popcorn, though! popcorn::
and bananas!

Wonder if there is a dancing twinkie smiley?

Hi Twinkiemom - I've loved your 1st report and am loving this one. I wish I could remember the details of our earlier trips but after a while the start to blur - which will make your TR even more precous!!

My own DS is also a middle schooler (although no GF yet!) - I was just looking thru pics from our trip in 2000 (he was 5 and I had just found out I was pg with his little sister) and now his is taller than me and turning into quite a man. My husband bought me a flip frame from the Disney store and I'm going through old photos for it - in 2000 DS was such a cute little squirt, 2003 he was just below my chin, 2005 he was about as high as my nose - next trip in 2007 he'll be looking down on me!! (I'm trying not to notice the changes in me - especially the 1991 pre-kids photos!!)

Thanks for the wonderful stories!!!!

Still LOVE, LOVE, LOVING your reports!! I don't mind a bit that it took 10 pages just to get there.......I loved the anticipation.......and that means I will have even more to read once you DO get there!!

Well, TM, you do know that you can get several different Disney Print fabrics at Mary Jo's, right? :woohoo: And it takes very little fabric to make little girl swing dresses... :rolleyes1 Bet you could be that grown up person you saw at AK for under 10 yards of fabric... and you have more family members, so you win! And I volunteer to drive up there and check out the fabric for you if you need me to...
Really, our quilt guild has rented a bus in the past to go up, and we are all due for a trip there, it has been almost a year for me. ;)

Ok we are at the park but not in the park yet...... popcorn::

Why didn't I WAIT??? I have been trying SO hard to wait for a few days in between, and now I get to the part where you are ABOUT to head into AK and what happens? I get left with no more to read....OK, well I'll be back in a few days to get some more good reading in ;)
BTW, I am just kidding, I LOVE your TR and I love the suspense even more! LOL

I feel the exact same way :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: I am soooooooooo looking forward to the rest.

Twinkiemama : I started reading about your first trip after you had already finished it and then got into this one and now you have me sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the next installment :rotfl: :lmao:

TM I adore you. :flower3:
Maybe when we're on Oprah she'll give us free swimsuits for life :ssst: . Or an alarm clock that only wakes who set it. :lmao:

Can't wait to find out what y'all did first. :mickeybar

I'm enjoying your report very much.

I also have twin girls, almost 12 years old. They do quarrel from time to time but in general they are so terrific and so much fun, and they're usually nice to their younger sister. Just yesterday one of them selected clothes for her twin sister and fixed her hair and then asked me, "Isn't she perfect?"

The thing is, now that one is several inches taller than the other, people who see us don't realize that they're twins. I miss all the attention that got in their baby and toddler days!

I am a snooze button addict and can completely understand where your DH is coming from! I set my alarm 45 minutes early, and hit snooze every 9 minutes until I HAVE to get up. I tried to break this habit, and put the alarm clock on DH's bureau at the foot of the bed. Nope, now the first time the alarm goes off, I get up and MOVE the alarm clock to the foot of the bed so I can hit the snooze button with my toes. Pathetic...I know. However, when I'm in WDW, I'm up and showered on the first beep. Go figure :confused3

It is very understandable. When you hit the snooze every 7 minutes, it is like you got all that extra sleep instead of having to get up as soon the alarm goes off. :hourglass That way, you get to ease into actually having to get up instead of having it thrust upon you. It all seems very logical to me. :confused3

Chef Mickeys is great isnt it! Shame about the wake up call :guilty:

If there was an opening ceremony, I missed it. Maybe I was staring longingly at the Jungle Print Family… maybe it was when DH asked me if I picked up any Disney Dollars when I bought the autograph book which he did by the series of brow lifts, hand gestures and round-a-bout descriptors that we use for Mommy/Daddy code. Just like in the game of Taboo (which we are pretty fabulous at even though DH says he doesn’t like it) you have the words you can’t say so a request for a cookie becomes “Hey do we have any more of those high caloric disks? The ones with the tropical bean extract in the high fat emulsion?” Anyway, back to “those things we were looking for the other day at Ye Olde Mall”… nope, don’t have any, didn’t remember to ask at the Concourse Sundry Shop. Oh no, I failed yet again to provide the most perfect vacation experience. :guilty:
“Don’t worry, babe, we can get some as soon as we get inside the park.” DH said seeing my stricken look.
“Oh no! We have to stick to The Plan. Which is we both hang on tight to DS and walk as fast as we can to Africa... No time to stop and enjoy anything. Now forward March!” I said as we followed the masses into the park.

I have great peripheral vision and a very tall husband, so I was able to stick to The Plan while noticing the scenery all around me. My first impression was that I was in Jurassic Park… the plants were gorgeous, the buildings were nestled into the landscaping with such careful attention to detail… like the leaf impressions and footprints in the pavement. I really would not have been surprised if a small dino had peeped through the luscious tropical vegetation. However, we had to make it in record time to the Kilimanjaro Safari. I wanted to experience this in the early morning when the animals were, hopefully, more active. Our plan was to grab fast passes, ride stand-by, and then ride fast pass. So we obtained our fast passes- and look the return window starts in 30 minutes. We zipped through the queue area without glancing at all the accommodations for our supposed long wait and we quickly board.

As we waited for our guide to get ready to go, I was just so excited. I have friends that have actually lived in Africa and been on safaris but I am pretty sure that the Disney version will be almost as good and since it is highly unlikely that I will ever be on a real African safari why shouldn’t I enjoy it? Also the realism gives me a little shiver down my spine as I remember that scene from Jurassic Park where the objects in the mirror were much closer than they appeared. And we are off! DH is having a blast- taking all sorts of pictures of various flora and fauna. I had put DS in the middle with my arm around him because I am teensy bit scared (have you read the book Jurassic Park???? I did, summer of ’93, in a dorm building that was supposed to be completely empty… I was a day early for my summer job…. Suffice it to say the security guard and I had one of those moments where we are both screaming at each other   I hadn’t noticed the sun setting while I was totally immersed in the book, He didn’t know anyone was in the building either… anyway the book has a lot of great quotes about chaos theory and what happens when you mess with natural systems) but I quickly realize that I am being ridiculous so I scoot him over my lap so he can see out the window. I still keep my arm around him because I just can’t disengage from the fantasy long enough not want him to fall out of the vehicle on the remote savanna when there are poachers on the loose. We however, are awesome so Lil' Red (is the elephant a rapper?) is saved and our ride is over.
We glance at the line and decide we can fit in another stand by ride before utilizing our fast passes. It is just as fun this time- only I don’t clench onto DS as tightly and the lions are not as perfectly placed for photography purposes. As soon as we get off, we use our fast passes to bypass the long line that has now formed, we try really hard to keep the gloat off of our faces as we again don’t have anytime to notice the details in the queue area. Another great ride, another great CM, another chance to get our lil' elephant back to his homies.
By now it is almost 10 am. We have been on safari three times and put a serious dent into the film supply. What should we do next?
