Misunderstood and don't love my GTY 9A room.

So I thought I knew what all the possibilities were when I booked a guarantee 9A Stateroom.

Apparently there were 2 on deck 5 that were possibilities that I didn't realize were possible.

I understand that this is totally my fault and I'm not complaining and obviously it will be fine either way.

I'm just wondering is switching even a an option? I'm already paid in full.

I got room 5186 on the dream.

Again: understand it's my fault. Not complaining. Just wondering.

If you don't mind my asking, what don't you like about it?

I thought by looking at pictures of all (or what I thought were all) of the rooms in that category that we would get one of the really huge portholes. There are 2 rooms on deck 5 that don't have those and have 2 portholes instead.

I know that's a small thing but for some reason I've built it up in my head.

I will also add that the room is huge and that's cool and I'm sure in most cases would be a huge plus but it's just me and DD so size isn't really as important.

I was reading reviews of the room you received. Are the portholes smaller? I remember a picture of a girl standing in one.

That view is out of the porthole. 5186 is a HA room so it also does not have a split bath or a bathtub. You can see if there are 9A cabins open online and try to switch to a different one, or you can upgrade and pay the difference.

I've never heard of DCL switching a GTY or *GT stateroom. Other cruise lines, I've heard of people calling and whining and getting it changed, but never heard of that with DCL. You rolls the dice and takes your chances.

And I say that knowing the "Ugh. Really?" feeling - even if others are all "It's awesome" (I have no opinion one way or the other as I will never book an aft room as I like the motion forward). Two years ago I gambled on a GTY for my preferred category because I flipped my cabin all over the place until my favorite cabins were booked and that category was at GTY. Rolled the dice and got a stupid Deck 5 verandah one that most people are gaga over but I could not stand - too low and too midship, and I despised not being able to enjoy the verandah because of the lack of privacy. (Not that I would do anything weird...I just don't like knowing people can watch me. I'm not an animal in a zoo.) Decided after that I would rather not cruise than ever roll the dice with a GTY again.

I'm not saying it's a horrible room at all I just thought I was going to end up with the big porthole.

Am I understanding correctly that even though I'm paid in full and past the cancellation period I can call and pay for a higher category?

Longshot but it is possible they would get a last minute request for an accessible room and being as you don't need it you would be moved to a different cabin.

That is a huge room. When you said small portholes I thought you meant like this.

I complained about a gty room I was assigned and got it switched to another in the same category that was available. It may have been luck but it is worth a try. It is different then complaining about a *gt room, you paid full price for your room, I would however be prepared to pay for an upgrade in category if you really want to change.

Definitely called to see what else is available. Paying for a different category is always an option if one is available.
And you will pay the pricing at the time you booked, not at current prices.
Good luck.

Do you not like it because it is aft? Or bc of the size of the portholes, just curious? I love it, from that video, I think it looks great. Good luck with whatever happens!
