Hi all - I'm new to the boards but I wanted to know if you all could maybe provide me some help.

We have just bought into SSR and have had our first vacation "home" planned for Oct. 17-23. We also are taking my brother's family and my Mom and Dad with us. We had to borrow points from our next year. We are all in studios. My brother and my parents are staying from Oct. 17-21 so my DH and DD's will be there 2 days longer BUT...

I messed up when buying my familys airfare and now we are all flying out on Oct. 17 and coming back on Oct. 21. I called the airline to see if I could change our flight but the change fees are outrageous - $100 per person plus the difference in the price of the ticket. That's just like buying airfare all over again. The airline said they would have changed it if I would have called right away but I didn't realized it then and looking over our reciept recently I saw my mistake.

My question to you is if we cancel the last 2 days do they put our points back into this use year and we will be able to bank them? Our use year is Feb. if that's any help.

OR

Should we go for 5 days - Nov. 28- Dec. 2 since the airfare with SW is so low? How are crowds this time of year? My husband thinks it's great that we missed out on two days in Oct. but we could gain 5 days in Nov.- Dec.

Thanks in advance for any comments or advice.

You should have time to bank your left over points. Ask MS to make sure your borrowed points are used first, as these have to stay in this use year. If you want to use your points then it shounds great to have an extra trip as you will see the Christmas decorations.

As for the airline--

I've had to change flights a couple days before a couple vacations in the last few years (one a funeral, one work related) and when I did the phone rep asked if I wanted to pay the difference on the phone or when I get to the ticket counter at the airport. I chose the airport both times and they never did charge anything at the airport. One was American Airlines and I don't remember the other.

So if you do end up changing flights, try to get them to let you pay at the airport ticket counter and see what happens.

Good luck

I don't know if this is helpful or even true anymore. But I read on a disney board a few years back of a little known loophole: if the airline changes the flight time even by just one minute, you have the right to a refund.

Just a thought...

What airline are we talking about? I know with Southwest that if you simply don't show up at the gate you are automatically given full credit for future travel within 12 months. So...... if it happens to be Southwest we are talking about, I would simply purchase new fares, and use the credit from the originals for the next trip. If you're not booked on Southwest I would look into their cancellation policy. You may find it to be very similar and that while it may be expensive to "change" existing flights....."cancelling" it may be a good option. Good luck.
