Day 2 Touring Plan: MGM, then the boat to Epcot. EMH that night at Epcot.
On Day 2 I didn't wake up as early as I had the day before: this time I got up at 5:30! And this time, I remembered the sunscreen. I planned to do some park hopping. I like a few rides at MGM, but I'm not a thrill seeker, so RnR & ToT aren't for me. I figured I'd get there a little before opening, go on the few rides I like, check the schedule for some shows, then get to Epcot. I had read about the boats that went from MGM to Epcot on the DIS, and I thought that would be a great way to get from park to park.
So I got to MGM at 8:45, they let us in, but not all the way. I was browsing in a shop and saw an adorable pair of ears--all sequined and with a multi-colored veil attached--and knew I had to buy that for 2 of my nieces. But didn't want to stop to pay right then. Once the park was officially opened, I headed straight to Star Tours. I think ST is my favorite ride at WDW. I've been a Star Wars fan since I was 17 years old, so it combines 2 of my favorite things---Disney & SW. No wait at all. This was one of those times I missed my family--I love taking pictures outside of that ride, and there wasn't anyone to take my picture there. Went from ST to Great Movie Ride--after all, what's a trip to MGM without it? And for the first time, I saw the Wild West version instead of the gangster version. That was great! Headed over to the Little Mermaid show. I've never seen it, and since LM is one of my favorite movies, I thought I'd like it. I timed it great--I only had to wait about 10 minutes and then we were in the theater. What a great show! The special effects are great. Decided to go on Star Tours again. This time, I shopped in the store--and I bought a Jedi Mickey beanie & a Jedi Mickey & Yodi set. I then realized I was developing a blister and figured I'd head back to my room, put the stuff away & fix my foot. I lucked out--I didn't have to wait a minute for the bus. So I got back to my room very quickly. I did have to wait a bit for the bus to Epcot (10 minutes), but I got a seat and was at Epcot rather quickly.
Since it was now lunch time, I decided to go for fish & chips at the UK, at the fast food stand around the corner. There were no tables available, but I found a bench overlooking the water and sat and enjoyed my traditional Epcot lunch.
I'm a Disney Visa cardholder, so I went to Innoventations for the special character Meet & Greet. Well organized. For those of you who haven't done it, when you get to IW, look for the fire truck, and it's right behind there. You have to show the CM your Visa, she takes the last 4 digits, gives you a voucher, and tells you what number you are. (I was #7). I had a bit of a wait, but it was worth it. They call your number, you go in & you are the only ones meeting the characters. I got to meet Mickey, Donald & Pluto. They take your picture a few times, you get to talk to the characters, get autographs, etc. You can take as long as you like. I didn't take too long. Then you can go to the Camera Center (across from Spaceship Earth) and get your FREE picture! But you have to get the free picture while you're at Epcot, you can't get the free picture online. You can buy extra copies if you wish. My picture was great.
Went to Canada. I had heard so much about Off-kilter from everyone on the DIS. Found the stage and was there for the 2:30 show. What a great show! The guys were so funny and so talented. I've got to get some of their CDs.
I went over to the Land to check out Soarin'. The line was super long, so I got a Fast Pass (the only ride I had to Fast Pass). Did Universe of Energy. I remember when I went on it the first time in 1993. I fell asleep, it was so boring. When I went on it in 1999, it was soooooo much better with Ellen & Bill Nye the Science Guy. The I went on Space Earth. Another ride that people find boring, but I love it. (what can I say, I'm easy to please). Picked up my free picture.
By now, it was time to go on Soarin'. I got a little nervous, but I had to try it. Well, I liked it alot, but it did give me the willies. I was grabbing the hand grips so tightly. But I loved the smells--the pines, the oranges & loved flying over the water. I'll do it again, but in the future.
I spent the next hour or so wondering the World Showcase. Illuminations was scheduled for 9 PM. Decided to grab some dinner and stake a claim. What I actually did was buy a great beer in Germany and then wonder over to the counter and get a hot dog and sauerkraut. There was a picnic table right on the water. I decided to eat & drink & take my time. People would come over, ask if they could sit, and of course I said yes. As we got closer to 9, 2 couples asked if they could sit there too. So they joined me, and at first we talked. They saved my seat while I threw away my garbarge. We had the perfect view for Illuminations, and they had been on one of the behind the scenes tours, so they were explaining what everything meant. After Illuminations, I walked over to Italy to get some tiramsu. Simply delicious. Then I walked over to the American pavillion in time for the American Adventure. I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed the preshow discussion almost as much as the show itself. By now, I was too tired to stand, so I decided to head back to the hotel. I had a very long wait for the bus--about a half hour, and then I had to stand. But I knew that Friday was my shooping/no park day, so I got to bed and slept in.
