Can anyone tell me more about Mission space? We will be at Disney during Thanksgiving week and want to check this ride out. Not sure if my Daughter 10 will be able to handle it, for that matter not sure about me.. lol

Anyways, any information on this ride would be great.

If your daugher is at least 44 inches tall and can handle rides like Space Mountain and Test Track, then Mission: Space shouldn't be a problem.

BTW, it's an awesome ride!

Hope you have a great vacation over Thanksgiving!

It is a wonderful ride! Intense but so worth it! You really get the feeling of being up in space! It's beautiful!!

My DS rode the first time at age 7 but he's a daredevil from way back. I, on the other hand, am the worlds biggest scaredy cat! Hate coasters... but I enjoyed MS. That said... I'm very glad I did it... ONCE! Not sure I'd go a second time.

My DH who gets sick on any spining or bumpy ride (or even riding in the back seat) did fine. He says the same thing, it was worth the experience to do it once. DS has done it many times... in a row!! My BF & her DD's 9 &11 rode too. The girls loved it!

Anyone who likes the coasters... the fast part of Test Track and is moderately okay with spinning will probably enjoy it.

We also love the space-station & games at the end of the exit. We often spend a long time there before heading on to our next ride. That is where we hang out now when DS goes on the ride! Very fun!

I hate roller coasters and LOVE MS. Did it for the second time during my last trip. My dh LOVES roller coasters and MS is too intense for him. It's VERY closed in. If you're claustraphobic in ANY WAY, you may want to skip it.

This is a hard one for anyone to tell you if a 10 y/o can handle it. We went on Oct '05 me, DH, DD(15 at the time), and DS (9 at the time) got nasueaus while my DS (14 at the time) loved it. No one was actually sick, but DH and I did need to sit for 15-20 min afterwards while kids played w/ the interesting games at the end of the ride.
You might want to try it out first and decide?

If not there's always TT (my fav) and now soarin to look forward to.

Have fun on your trip!

My DH and I went on this ride once (last fall). I tend to feel "quizzy" on constant spinning rides (tea cups... forget it!!!!)

So, I was very cautious when I rode Mission Space. I looked straight ahead the entire ride and stared at the screen in front of me... that's it!!

When the ride ended, I felt dizzy,(and was glad it was over!!!), but I didn't feel too sick, like I would throw up. It really was a great ride/experience, but both DH and I agree... it is a great ride to do once, but not sure we would do it again!

I would recommended keeping your head/eyes focused on the screen straight ahead if you are prone to motion sickness!! It really did feel like we were taking off into space!!

Let me just say this.

Beware of taking advice from others "too" much. Many who like the ride refuse to acknowledge the problems others may have. I LOVE this ride, but I will tell you that some many really have problems with this.

Even if you love rollercoasters you can have issues with this.

This ride is intense. Dont let anyone convince you otherwise.

If you have a child you are not sure about, I urge you to ride by yourself first then make a decision.

The ride does have g's. Though many will tell you that they are no more than a rollercoaster, the big difference is they last much longer. At some points some people even have noticed the G's causing them to slightly lose their breath and they have to breathe harder to catch their breath.

Also if you are chlaustrophobic, forget about this attraction.

Wow, thanks everyone for the very fast responses.. I am just new to this board so spending lots of time looking around.

This will only be our second trip to disney, there was so much we didn't do the first time, we cant wait.

I guess I may have to be the brave one and check out MS.. How long does the ride last??? if anyone knows..

Thanks
Glenn

One of my favorite WDW stories involved MS.

It has a big warning near the entrance that you should avoid it if you have certain ailments, including migraines so I dug in my heels and refused to go. But, my fiancee had soooo been looking forward so he went ahead without me. It was a slow day so he jumped right on and I went to the exit to sit on a bench and wait for him. While I was sitting there, a familiar face literally peaked around the corner and waved at me sitting there all alone. It was Mickey!!! ::MickeyMo He was appropriately wearing a space suit and he gave me a hug. He was on his way out the door to the front of MS where he posed for pictures (I went back with my fiancee and got one).

But anyway... about the ride... DF came out all smiles, he said I would definitely like it and wouldn't take 'no' for an answer so I went back in. There were two little ones (that I didn't know) in the ride with us. They seemed to do ok. Two boys about 8 and 10. And, I did fine. I didn't find it very dizzy, just intense.

Remember that old ride at every fair in the 80s??? The gravatron??? I think you can handle that, you can handle MS.

This is an excellent review. Bravo! :cheer2:

I really enjoy this ride. However, it is VERY intense and not for everyone.

The problem with this ride is that there doesn't seem to be a constant as far as how you, personally, will react. I know of people who don't get sick on any other ride, but get sick on M:S. I also know of people who have problems with other thrill rides, but have no problem with M:S. It seems that you can't really predict how you will handle M:S until you give it a try.

I feel a little dizzy for about 5 minutes after getting off M:S, but I recover quickly. My GF Nikkie, however, feels dizzy for about an hour afterwards. Usually she shops in Mousegear while I get my fill of M:S. :)

I agree with the ride being really intense for adults. It's gotta be a little more intense for younger riders. My face was literally numb for about 15 to 20 minutes after the ride. My wife is a big scaredy cat and she got on it and enjoyed it. However, again, the ride is pretty intense for a child even if they do meet the height requirements of the ride.

There was an actual death reported on the ride, however it was never determined whether the poor health of the child was the cause or if it was for other reasons.

I agree with civileng68's assessment of MS. I first experienced MS two years ago with DS, who was 7 at the time. We really enjoyed it while we were on it. I felt a little sick to my stomach when we got off, but it quickly subsided. DS appeared to be doing fine, then got sick to his stomach about 10 minutes later and had to return to the resort to lie down.

This August, DH, DS (now 9), and DS5 and I rode MS together. I was worried about DS5, but he did better than the rest of us. When we exited the ride, his only comment was, "That almost made me sick." He was fine and never complained about nausea or anything else. DS9 was fine as well. DH and I had to take a few minutes to get over our nausea after the mission. DS5 will not ride roller coasters or Splash Mountain, but says that he wants to do MS again when we go back next week. I think it all depends upon the individual.

WARNING:

Something I need to mention also.

Before you ride, there will be a verbal warning over the television system about not looking left or right or leaning forward as it will disorient you.

This disorientation is what causes some to feel sick. This is why so many have variations of reactions. I will say this.............I ride this attraction SO much. However this past time I noticed myself (this past weekend) feeling really disoriented during the first part of the ride. I started then to get nervous. I couldn't figure it out, until I then realized I was tensed up and slightly leaned forward. When I sat back and relaxed I got back to normal.

So my warning is this......................with little children know that if you or they do look left or right or lean forward, the impact is large. You or they will feel the effects heavily (namely disorientation/dizzyness).

I only warn you because you know how small children are sometimes. When they get in a situation where they get nervous they forget about directsions and if they do, things may get much worse. However some children do really well.

I just urge anyone in question to wait until someone else goes on first and determines what it's like.

We finally got the nerve to ride MS in June. My DH (who gets motion sickness at times), DS12 and I all rode and it was intense!!! DH and DS LOVED it, I enjoyed it and am glad I rode, but won't do it again. I didn't feel sick, but just kind of felt odd for about an hour. We rode last thing before park closing, just in case it affected us, so we wouldn't spoil our day. I was even able to eat my cupcake after we got back to our room...
