They said it was supposed to open up in the spring so that got me thinking it would be open in April or May. Has it been pushed back or is it still on time.? I'm going at the end of June so I'm hoping it will be open... anyone have any news

It seems very unlikely right now that it will be open by June. Right now it looks like late summer previews with a late fall official opening, but nothing official yet.

i think its going to be in fall too... it just doesnt seem like it will be open soon.... i would think there would be more publicity for it if it were to open soon...

Guess I can't even hope for a soft opening for our trip in June.:(

Latest rumors I read were that it would open in November before Thanksgiving. Don't know what that means in terms of soft openings...

Oh I hope it's open for our Thanksgiving trip! This really looks like a great ride!:D

How Sad! I wish It Would Have Been Open for May. I really wanted to ride something new.!

Someone posted from news and rumours who just got back from Epcot and they said that the outside is finished, but the line area is not and the inside is not finished. The ride is apparently done, but they have a lot of theming left to do. Don't count on a soft opening until at least August.

Sorry, it bugs me too.......

The outside of the building has been pretty much done for some time. The last I heard, in February, they had only one ride vehicle installed and were testing with counter-weights on all the other vehicle attachment points.

That was a couple months ago, but it sounds like a ride as complex as this takes time to install and configure. I'd be happy to see it running before Thanksgiving!

I think on the rumor board someone said a casting call went out for CM's that want to work at Mission Space. This means maybe 90 days?!

We will be at WDW in Dec and can't wait to try this ride!

New rumors on the rumor board today is that August might be the official opening and that since casting calls have gone out, maybe by late June we'll have soft openings. Another *rumor* that appeared on the rumor board this afternoon is that Labor Day is the drop dead, absolute deadline for when "they" want it up and running. Don't know who "they" are. Also mentioned was that there might be a December media event aroudn this since December 17 marks 100 years since the Wright Brothers first flight.

Remember all this is *rumor*. The only official thing from Disney is 2003.

RoqueC; We'll be there then too (Aug. 17-22).
What is Disney's definition of a "soft opening". Is this something you would need inquire about at your resort and make "PS" for? Who has experienced a soft opening on other attractions?

You would think, with the economy in the toilet, that the Disney folks would be breaking their necks to get this thing up and running. I know of no better way to pull in crowds than a new E-ticket attraction. Here's hoping for at least soft opening by August - I wanna ride!!!!;)

Soft openings are, as far as I know, intended to train cast members, tweak the technology and make sure crowd flow is as anticipated. For something like Mission: Space that can take several weeks.

Typically soft openings are "get in line at your own risk" type deals, where they may close the attraction down frequently and at any time. It may only be open for part of the day. Soft openings are not advertised, so be sure to ask a CM or stop by the attraction to see what's going on.

There's a new sweepstakes on Disney.com for a trip for 4 to Disney AND invites to the premiere party for Mission:Space. Since this contest runs until August 30, with the winner drawn on or about Sept 15, it may not be "officially" open before then.

Soft openings are another story

To add to Zuyala's post, the trip is set to coincide with the "media event" surrounding the opening.

Did the contest rules commit to a "media event date." Those dates are EMBARRASSING to change (ask anyone about the Test Track launch), and with the stock doing as it has, I would think the Disney execs would want a "REAL" date they can promote.

I am there in October, and REALLY hope it is open then....

Seeking a little pixie dust so I can GO into SPACE!
