i hAbe motion sickness so I have never been on this. What is the difference between Green and Orange? My DH said when it first opened it was pretty rough though he said since they modified it, it was more enjoyable. Is this still he case? Thanks!

In Orange the entire group of simulators spins like a centrifuge to produce actual G forces. Most people don't think they are spinning, unless they look to the side.

In green, the simulator tilts, but does not spin.

The simulators are quite small. Claustrophobia is usually a greater "danger"

I can handle most motion issues. But the Orange side leaves me in a cold sweat and a bit uneasy for at least an hour after riding it. It doesn't bother me during the ride. Only after I exit. I can't imagine what the reaction would be for people who do have motion isdues. Well, actually I can, but I don't want to.

No, you REALLY don't want to. Nor do you want to be IN the simulator with them.
I think my husband had the same issue with feeling badly AFTER he rode. Perhaps he should do green.

I have motion sickness and I always wear Scop patches when we go to Disney. We did the green side once. I still had a small reaction to it even with the Scop patch behind my ear, and the claustrophobic feel was a little much too. So I don't do that ride anymore, lol.

I've tried the Dramamine and the patch but it didn't work well for me. I rode RnR and knew there was no way I could ride it again. I couldn't get my seat belt unbuckled and went into sheer panic. That happened to me on (luckily) a straight roller coaster (no twists turns or spirals -I can ride a straight on coaster) but I ended up riding 4 times in a row before the park workers could get the belt unbuckled. (They would jump in between the car filling up and struggle with it before the ride started again). Not a good experience and I was fortunate I didn't get sick on the ride (pretty much ruined the rest of my day however), but it's an experience I will remember forever for sure.

ETA: Ironically the ride was in Wayne's World and was called the Hurler lol

I enjoy rollercoasters on Disney Property (minus Aerosmith) but refuse to do the Orange.

I had severe anxiety for some reason my last trip on Soarin' and rode it many times before hand. Not sure what was wrong with me. The green side isn't bad at all. Very enclosed but not a 'wild' ride.

I get motion sickness incredibly bad. (Even in the car) Green was way more enjoyable for me, but orange was not awful. I couldn't even tell we were spinning. I felt slightly icky for about 10 minutes after we got off. I will do green when we do it again, but I don't think orange is as bad as it sounds.

I love roller coasters and the like, but Mission Space just about killed me. I had a complete anxiety attack...on green no less. I will never do it again!

The movie / experience is the same between green and orange so you aren't missing anything by doing one color or the other.

ive been on mission space. its pretty easy to handle and doesnt spin. it just rotates quickly to generate gforce..which is also easy to handle. its slightly more intense then taking off in a real airplane.

That's completely ridiculous. I can't see anything like this ever happening at Disney. They would stop the ride and get you out. This is why I don't trust other theme/amusement parks.

I was planning to weigh in and say that green side was very benign, but apparently some people don't do well on it. It's the same exact ride as the orange side, but without the G force. It's enclosed, but I don't feel it was in any way intense.

DH rode it right after it opened, and I think it was pretty intense. He has never said a ride didn't agree with him or he disliked it - but he said that about Mission Space. He has mentioned something about the new green side, so I may get him a fp for that.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences!

Very true. I had to ride the green side for five years after an accident that broke my neck and my completely healthy husband rode that side with me and was amazed that it's the same thing only without the warning to look straight ahead like on the orange side. Other than that, same movie and storyline.

OP, Mission: SPACE Green Team Less Intense Training seems right for you. THE simulator does shake and swing a bit, but the motion is not extreme. If something like Star Tours bothers you, there is a native 3D screen on Mission: SPACE that may bother you. If it does, I recommend looking away or closing your eyes (Note: DO NOT do this on Orange Team...keep your eyes focused on that screen during the spinning portions or you will likely exacerbate the motion sickness). Know that the Orange Team version will spin 3 times for about 15 seconds each. For the vast majority of the ride you are not spinning at all. The ride is trying to simulate high G-forces and weightlessness (you feel this a little after the high G-forces stop, but it's just the dichotomy of going from high to normal gravity). I honestly don't think you miss much doing Green Team and it is worth a try.

Both sides will have you in a very small space, so claustrophobia may be an issue. Good luck, Astronaut!

Have ridden this many times. Enjoy the non-spinning version. I do not suffer from claustrophobia so the ride vehicle doesn't bother me.

Last trip my friend insisted I try the Orange team telling me "you hardly even notice it".

5 seconds in, I wanted to both die and kill him.

Felt sick and had a headache for a solid hour afterwards.

I rode a few months after it first opened. I do suffer from motion sickness but I take meclizine and it generally allows me to ride pretty much everything. (I still get queasy on the teacups. I can ride them as long as we don't spin the cup excessively, but I usually just skip it. Also, Star Tours -- it isn't the motion of the pod, but rather, I think, the discrepancy between the motion or lack of motion and what my eyes are seeing on the screen. I still ride it, just close my eyes sometimes and that helps. Now, closing my eyes on a ride that actually does move, like the teacups, would probably kill me lol. I would be unbelievably sick!)

Anyway, I got SO sick on Mission Space that I didn't feel better until the next day! There were a couple of people throwing up into trash cans outside so I wasn't the only one. At least I didn't throw up, but it ruined my day. :crazy2:

Since that experience was so awful, I've been afraid to even try the green side. I'm tempted, but afraid. Maybe one of these days I'll ride green at the very end of the night so if it affects me I can just sleep it off.

ETA: It sounds like maybe the green side might be similar to Star Tours and I could just close my eyes if I was feeling queasy. ???

The difference is when I rode Orange that is the closest I ever came to yakking on or after a ride. 10 seconds into lift off I knew NASA wasn't for me! Plus I felt crummy for several hours after which sucked cause it was F&W time.

4 years later (yup took that long to even try it again) I did Green & it was much better for me. Yes it's still a small tight space so that might bother people, but at least I got to enjoy the trip to Mars this time.
