wow - just 8 days - and we´ll fly!!! YES! Can´t wait!

But I`m a little scared because of MS...
My blood pressure is fine... I have no motion sickness...
BUT:
I had an accident 5 weeks ago... and still have a few problems with my neck.

Would you ride????

Thanx a lot for your help!

If you are at all concerned, don't. I won't ride b/c my husband was ill all day after riding this even after taking dramamine prior to riding. He said there are so many warnings posted throughout the ride that it would scare even a healthy person to death. I wouldn't take any chances. The g-force is very intense, although I don't think it is a jerky ride.

I rode it once, never again. Felt like heck for two hours afterwards.

My sons who love spinning rides and coasters that go upside down will only ride Space once per vacation.

My vote would be NO.

I have not ridden it but if you have any concerns then I would not do it. In my opinion it's not worth the risk to ride any ride if you have any concerns. Take care!

the ride is smooth is that is your concern( not like say bmtr where you get thrown around), if you ride, i'd keep my head against the head rest at "take off"...just a side thought Ms didn't bother me but when i rode rnr i didn't keep my head back against the headrest and it made my back problems flare up. might be rough for a healing injury. after the back pain was OK i re-rode rnr( guess i am thick headed) and kept my head back and i was fine

if you don't have motion sickness problems, I'd just be careful with the take off. according to published sources the g forces are 2, rnr and i think some universal rides are 4, astronauts are subjected to like 7 or some ungodly amount(;))

well I have ridden it a bunch of times.... It is my favorite.....

but since this would be your first time - then I agreed with everyone - NO -

you need to be in pretty good health to ride this thing.

Mother last year at 83 rode it. She loved the take off - hated that Disney except her to 'work' - her words not mind.... I like that part - but lots of people don't understand it focus your mind and helps you not to be sick or worried....

new rides when you don't know what to expect can always be scarey....

It's not rough or jerky, if that is your concern.

I've ridden it and only felt a little dizzy one time. Same with my sister and when she took ginger she was fine riding more than once (she's over 60yo and gets dizzy easy). My 81yo mother rode it and didn't think it was long enough. My son rode it when he was almost 5yo and was unfazed. My DH, who gets very sick with spinning rides, took ginger and then rode it. He was nervous with his history, but followed the directions to a T and loved it. Ended up riding it another time that day and one more time that trip. He cannot ride teacup type rides, but was fine with M:S.

None of us have blood pressure problems, however. My DH does have some neck problems due to an accident that happened years ago and I do have some arthritis in my neck, but the ride is not hard on my neck at all (coasters are).

I recommend DON'T RIDE. I love M:S (even though it made me feel not quite right for an hour or so), but the g-forces will make your head feel heavier and thus will put increased load on your neck muscles, which sounds like exactly what you don't need right now.

No, please....this ride scares me. I don't think it killed those people, but I'm afraid that people who don't know they have a problem may be in danger.

I think the safest way would be to print out a ride description and let your Doctor decide. While you are there, you should ask him about other rides as well. Better safe than sorry.

Good idea to discuss all the rides with your dr and find out exactly which rides you should be concerned about.

I spoke with my doc yesterday and he said... we have to wait, how my neck problem looks next week.
You are right. I´ll explain him the ride...
But at the moment - I think - I don´t will ride!

Thank you all!

MY NO MEDICAL TRAINING I HOLD NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT YOU DO OPINION:

I have general neck problems. I would call it a "weak" neck. The ride type that I have the biggest problem with are roller coasters in the dark - namely Space Mountain. If I can't see the track and anticipate the turns, my head whips around and I end up with a headache. However, I do ride RNR (and LOVE it) but request the front half of the train because it is smoother and not so whippy. RNR is a bit brighter and so darn fast and the ride seat is designed such that your head won't get whipped so much, that I don't have anywhere near the problems like I do with SM. BTMRR gives me no problem whatsoever. TT, no problems. Star Tours, no problems. Body Wars, no problems. TOT, no problems. I plan on riding Expedition Everest on our next trip. Hopefully, that gives you an idea of what my neck issues entail.

On to MS - I have absolutely no problems on MS. In fact, we ride this at least 4 or 5 times every time we go to WDW. The ride is not jerky at all. It is extremely smooth and the G-forces are exerted towards you back rather than your butt so your head is not compressed onto you neck during the G-Forces. I keep my head against the back of the seat (it's nicely designed to provide a little "channel" for your head to rest in which also helps restrain it on the sides) and I have no problems.

Personally, the folks that need to watch out for this ride are those that are prone to motion sickness, those with medical issues that can be aggravated by stress (the ride is exhilarating) or those with skeletal-muscular issues such that even moving in a 1G environment causes you problems. If you use a walker or wear a brace, this ride may be too much for you.

Now, I got rear ended once. I was turning right and was looking toward my left checking for oncoming traffic and got rear ended. My head to whipped back and strained the muscle on the right side of my neck. I would say that it was just a little sore for a few days and only when I tried to use it. If I had gone to WDW at this time, and knowing what I know about MS, I would have ridden it. The muscle soreness would not have kept me from riding this ride.

If my neck problems were "muscular", I would ride MS because MS does not expect your neck muscles to provide much (if any) support for your head. SM expects your neck to "support" your head (keep it from whipping too much). If my neck problems were "skeletal", I would think a bit more about riding MS. If they are severe, MS could aggravate them.
