Last time we went to Epcot, I rode the green side while my kids rode the orange side. I had no problems at all with the green side, however, I really didn't like riding without my family and they don't want to do the green side.

So, my question is does the orange side actually spin you or is the motion simulator portion just a lot more intense? I ride Star Tours with my kids and I just close my eyes during the parts that I think will make me feel queasy. Can I use this same strategy and ride orange with them or will that not work? TIA!

Orange does spin. You feel it pretty strongly. I don't think closing your eyes will help much as it will do nothing against the g-forces. If Star Tours makes you queasy, I don't think Orange is for you.

Ever been on a Gravitron ride at a fair or carnival? The round spaceship-looking thing that spins around and you stick to the walls inside? Orange is kind of like that thing's big brother.

Thanks for all the information. That is kind of what I was afraid of, but it is much better to know in advance than to try it and find out the hard way. I guess I will just stick to riding green with strangers :)

I have done orange a zillion times with no problems. They've had astronauts ride it and say it feels like the real deal. It it's pretty uncomfortable though. I wasn't feeling very healthy when we went last March, and have become quite a bit of a hypochondriac, so I rode the green for the very first time. There was no line when I went, and when I rode, it seemed just like orange, only not as intense. You don't get that tight feeling in your chest and throat like you would in orange. When I go back Feburary, I'm riding green, and I don't care who knows it

I loved riding that as a kid! I made the mistake though of wearing a necklace in one once, and was choking the whole ride, and could not remove it because the forces were too great. Ever since then, I always remove my jewelry on those. Never removed anything for Mission Space though.

I am slightly prone to motion sickness (don't enjoy the Tea Cups but have no problem with the big, non-spinning coasters). I managed okay on Mission Space Green with my family, then later decided to take one for the team by accompanying my son on Orange...

The good news is that I survived, but I will never, ever ride Orange again. There was a deep sense of intense spinning, as if someone very strong grabbed me by the gut and spun me in tight circles. I've never felt anything like it, and hope I never will again.

To this day I can't remember which side I went on ..
I could have sworn my wife and I decided to go on the "easy" side (not being thrill seekers) or maybe we risked it and went Orange .. I can't recall. Maybe we got in the wrong queue and didn't realize it.

All I do remember is that it did spin .. and we both felt ill for a while afterwards (just had to sit down and chill out for 30+ minutes) ..

I won't do it on Orange again. I can handle coasters and the Teacups once or twice and Star Tours (multiple times in a row) .. but that was just awful.
I could handle centrifuge's in my youth (those rides here you stuck to the wall) ... no more I guess.

And besides that .. I just found it an underwhelming (not very memorable) attraction .. (but my memory may be jaded at how ill I got afterward) ..

My husband and I went on it back in 2004 when it was only the Orange version, and it ruined the rest of that day and the following day for him. If you have even a slight tendency towards motion sickness, I'd go with Green!

I HATE Orange. I did it once and I felt like my head was going to split open. I stick with Green now, even if I have to ride it alone. Green is not intense at all.

I love roller coasters but do tend to get motion sickness. I usually take a dramamine in the morning when I go to a theme park. I did Orange 4 years ago with my kids cause I always do all the scary rides/coasters with no problem. During the ride I just felt intense pressure on my face and body. Didn't really notice we were actually spinning though. However, as soon as I got up when the ride was over I almost keeled over. My head was killing for basically the rest of the day. I would not do Orange ever again, though I'm totally fine on just about any roller coaster.

What I would do is suggest to the kids is how scary it would be for them to ride the green side and tell you all the differences. Then you all ride together and they can have a different experience. Life isn't all about thrills.

So if you were someone who would never ride Star Tours again due to motion sickness (i.e., me), would you say not to go on it at all? I don't want to ruin a day.

I don't like/can't really handle Star Tours because of the 3D aspect - THAT makes me sick, because the glasses never fit and it plays with my vision too much.

I really, really, really enjoy the thrill of MS: Orange. It always freaks me out because before we load because I *think* it's going to make me sick, but in the end ... I get SUCH a rush! We went two years ago with a buddy who LOVES space and his childhood dream was to be an astronaut. Even after three or four times riding it, we'd be waiting outside the capsule, he'd get all pumped up (and slightly excited-nervous) to go in the capsule, because it felt so real to him. Like he was finally doing something he'd always dreamed about!

I've never felt the spinning aspect - but really only the rumbling of liftoff (and what I always think are nerves in my stomach) and then the weightlessness, and then the feel of awesomeness.

I feel like the key (for me!) is to keep my back straight and my head basically plastered to the back of my seat, and keep my eyes open and focused, essentially, on the center or what the ride establishes as the horizon. If I've ever lost it, it's when I've closed my eyes, but even then - I've never felt the spinning. DO NOT CLOSE YOUR EYES. There are enough things visually to focus on that will fool your brain into thinking you're really in space and not spinning. Looks around at the screens other than your viewfinder, or at your fellow "team mates". DO NOT CLOSE YOUR EYES. Just focus on pressing your button when you're called on!

We've done it a handful of times and it's only made my husband feel funky once - he hadn't had breakfast yet, but had finished off at least three cups of coffee, so I'm sure that played a factor.

Honestly, I feel like it's pretty amazing and breathtaking in the experience of going into space. It's easily the closest I'll ever get to doing that!

DH absolutely loves MS: Orange. I definitely enjoy it, but every time we go on I have this small worry that someone else is going to get sick while riding. :crazy2:

I'd feel bad for them, of course. It's not like someone would choose to get sick. But really, who likes the smell of vomit? Or worse, someone who gets sick really unexpectedly and doesn't have a bag in hand.

But it is a fun ride. I'll go on it as many times as DH likes. I just hope I never get into a "vomit comet" situation. :p

I am someone who CANNOT ride Star Tours or the teacups without getting sick, but I adore M:S Orange!

As Keels said, if you focus on the video, the sensations map much more closely to the increased Gs of "takeoff" and then the subsequent "weightlessness" as the spinning slows. It doesn't feel like spinning to me - whereas the motion of Star Tours never quite matches the video and always makes me so sick!

If anyone is hesitant but curious, why not try riding it right at the end of the day? Then at least if you don't react well, you can sleep it off and you're not facing the rest of the park day feeling sick.

Green is the same as orange except for the spinning. Orange spins at various times to create the illusion that you are experiencing the G Forces you would during an actual space flight.

Green makes a single revolution during the ride in order to reset for the next 'trip'.

See, I think that the people I quoted are feeling the ride the way it's meant to be felt. The ride spins, but it does so at a speed to create g-forces, not to create a feeling of spinning.

But...some bodies are going to feel it as spinning anyway, like many here, or others (not anyone here, but the random people at the parks) don't follow the rules and *maybe* would have experienced it as weightlessness/gforces, but didn't b/c of the rules issue. :)

I'm too afraid to find out I'm someone who CAN'T follow rules or whose body feels it "wrong"... So I'm a Green-side person.
