Okay, so I will be a first timer when it comes to my WDW trip this January. I have heard many things about Mission: Space, mostly that it is awesome but has a history of making people sick. I even heard somewhere a person died after getting off?????

Is it really that intense? I know they have two different options regarding intensity. I would love to try the more intense version but am kinda scared.

Thoughts? :confused3

Stock answer...if you're prone to motion sickness, claustrophobia, are pregnant, or have a history of heart, circulatory, or cardiovascular disorders you should probably skip the more intense version. If you like pulling G's, sensations of weighlessness, and flying through space, totally give the more-intense one a shot. It's one of my favorite rides. :)

Oh, and if you did choose poorly, there are barf bags in the ride console itself. Unfortunately they're just plain white and not branded.

I would just do the green version, it's still a very good simulation. Then you can decide if you want to spin.. IF you spin, and you are prone to issues sometimes, keep your eyes open, your head back against the head rest and look straight forward!!!

If you close your eyes or look left or right, it does mess with you :).. Trust me I tried once.. I didnt puke or anything, but you can see why they tell you not to do that :D

It's very cool! I'm glad i tried it once but NEVER again. I was actually green when I came off the ride and had to lay down on a bench to recoup. DH on the other hand LOVES it, he can ride it OVER and OVER and OVER

:sad2: I've only ridden the Green version. No problems there. My DS8 even rode it last time and was fine. Can't say that about the little girl next to him though. I want to try the Orange version. But, DH keeps talking me out of it. He's heard horror stories how people felt ill for the rest of the day. But, I love thrill rides and don't have any ill effects towards them. We usually do the Rider Swap (DS2 is too small). Maybe, I'll ride the Orange version next time and not tell him until I get off. ;)

:scared: Never again! I didn't like the forward motion and sudden dips and drops and it got me really sick. And I don't get sick on any other ride anywhere! Including airplanes!

i did the more intense version a number of times, and the only time i ever felt sick was after a little trip around the food and wine festival... which may or may not have been bad planning on my part. It all depends on your tolerance, and how well you can handle the spinning sensation... for my part, though, it's the coolest experience, i absolutely love it. :)

How 'fast' does the ride spin I wonder to give those sensations? I mean I'ts a big ride by looking at it when you leave..

I did not get sick back in 2005 when there was only the original version, but I did not feel too great for about an hour after. I had to sit on a bench for about a half hour because I felt like puking and because it gave me a bad headache. I think I wil try the green version next month, and hope it does not bring back bad memories.

MS Orange is easily one of my top 5 rides in WDW, it is so well done. Unfortunately for some people, it's a bit *too* well done - there's a reason why they only let healthy people fly into space, and after tons of training ;)

The person that died was a 4 year old with an undiagnosed heart condition (very sad story). It's very unlikely you will have the same outcome as him.

This is not the same as the teacups, it's a totally different sensation than any ride anywhere (which is why I love it). But if you ever get any motion sickness at all, consider trying green first, or making orange the last ride of the night before you go back to your room.

Maybe, they should change the colors and make the more intense version green.

My son and I are both prone to motion sickness in cars so I was a little scared the first time we rode this (when there was only one version) and made him keep a "sick" bag in his hand the first time. We followed the directions and we came out feeling fine. You could always try taking a little motion sickness medicine first, just to be one the safe side.

I am very prone to motion sickness. I rode the green version with no problems. I am not brave enough to try the "real" one!:rolleyes1

Im thinking that next time I will ride the green version as usual with everyone when I get to MS in the touringplan and then go back and ride the orange version as the last ride of the night. I seldom get motion sickness, but I do have very bad reflux. Am I crazy for even considering this?:confused3

Do you even move with the green version? Do they still sit you in the same bank of seats and you just watch, but don't move?

I did the orange version once and will never ever do it again. Even when keeping my head back and facing forward like you are supposed to, the screen you watch looked blurry to me and gave me very bad vertigo---blech.

Let me preface this by saying, I never get sick on rides. Our entire family rode the Orange version and my husband and I were ill for the rest of the day. Our daugher, 5 at the time, was fine.
I felt like I did when I had morning sickness - every day for nine months.
Needless to say, we won't be riding it again.

I'm really proud of myself, last year at the F&W Fest I ate and drank around the world (oh boy did I drink) and I rode the intense side of MS without losing it. I did feel a little funny during takeoff but other than that I was fine.

If you can be prone to motion sickness, is the green version ok, or is this a ride to simply be avoided?

As a reference, DH and I went on Body Wars when it first came out and it ruined the next few hours for us- we dont want to have that happen again. But, if the green version is ok, we would love to try it.

Your thoughts?

Hmmm i must be unique in my reaction to this ride. I rode it when there was only a orange version and i am super prone to motion sickness (not the weakest but pretty bad) and i can do this ride without problems.

I just have to keep telling myself -- look forward.... straight forward no blinking -- and this is my second fav ride in all of disney (ToT is the best).
