I finally rode Mission Space. After reading all the warnings from everyone I was so scared that I was going to get sick. I took a dramamine the night before and used the wrist bands for motion sickness. I also got a fast pass so I would not have to stand in line and listen to the warnings. I told my DS that I might chicken out and gave him instructions on what to do if I did get sick (i.e. get by backpack and run after me). So anyway I got in line knowing that there is a chicken door all the way to the end. As soon as I got in the capsule I took a barf bag and opened it. I kept my eyes focused on the screen and appreciated the cold air blowing in my face. They closed the capsule and it began. I was so worried that I was going to get sick that I didn't enjoy the majority of the ride. As soon as we blasted off you feel pressure on your face and it is just any other simulator ride. A few days later we went again and it was more enjoyable knowing that I was not going to get sick. You do not know that you are spinning (spinning rides is what gets me sick). If you have ever been on the ride where you go in a cylinder and it starts to spin and then you get stuck to the wall, that is what you feel but since you focus your eyes on the screen you don't realize that you are spinning, you only feel that feeling of pressure. I am glad that I went on the ride and will ride it again whenever I am there. Just remember to keep your eyes on the screen, don't look away and don't close your eyes and if you think you might get sick just have the barf bag in your hand. The only bad thing about the ride is they leave you on mars. I am still waiting for the space ship back to earth. Hope this helps anyone trying to decide if they want to go on the ride.

Great report. I was a little aprehensive about the ride at first too, but I really enjoyed it. Thanks for your report.

Hey Buzzz....... Thanks for the report. I have never ridden Mission Space but the rest of my family has...... I am going to try it when we go in September !!

:earseek:

I get really sick on spinning rides too... I can't decide if I should go on this one or not! I will keep your suggestions in mind though! Glad that you had fun!

Thanks for the report. I plan to try it next week. Even though I have no problem on any rides, Ive heard so many horror stories about this one, Ive been afraid to try it. Sounds like Ill be ok. :D

I haven't been on it and I have been apprehensive as well, but I think I'm going to try it. One idea I am going to try is to ride MS toward the end of the day as our last ride. That way, if my husband or I end up feeling sick, at least it won't ruin the rest of the day at Epcot and hopefully we can sleep it off.

Just thought I'd pass along this tip to others who think they might get sick! :crazy2:

Thanks for the report. I get motion sick and have been debating about trying Mission Space.

I think I will try it, but I'll take my Bonine the night before and again in the morning.

Let me start by saying that I have never had motion sickness in my life but I had read so much about it, concerning Mission Space, that I was worried about how it would effect me.

I waited until the end of the day, just in case I got dizzy, so I wouldn't have to spend all day recovering. I went to the restaurant/snack bar just in front of MS and had some chicken strips (figured if I was going to barf, it should be substantial) and then went in the singles line and on board.

It was awesome! That is the exact word that I used and I never use that word. What a great ride. The fact that it made you feel that you were participating was a great touch.

What really annoys me is that all the people that have been gripping about how Disney doesn't invest in the parks are the same ones that have perpetuated the rumor about how sick everyone gets on it. I didn't see one sick person nor did I feel the least bit ill. A group of 5, previously ill, people have a problem on the ride and it becomes headline news. That was because they didn't pay attention to the warnings.

Anyone, that is hesitating, stop doing so. Get on it and ride. I was also upset because they left us on Mars and I wanted to get to see Figment before the evening ended. By the time I walked from Mars to Imagination, it was closed.

 :teeth: :hyper: :wave2:

I must admit I was a bit disappointed. I too had read numerous horror stories and although I love thrill rides, was quite apprehensive. But in the end I not only walked away, lunch intact, but left feeling more than a little cheated. My DBIL was a little woozy but only because of the clausterphobia issue (he hated being closed in). I only felt a tiny lurch for half a second and never felt the "weightlessness". I thought that there was too much preshow and not enough show. But in hindsight, I was probably expecting the moon because of the hype and instead got overly excited about something I shouldn't have. I probably would have had a much better time. I may do it again when we go back next year, but I won't be disappointed if I don't.

First I want to say, I LOVE RIDES!!! Rock n Roller Coaster is my FAVORITE!! But I am SO glad that they leave you on MARS!! One more second and I think I would have lost it! I took Dramamine beforehand and kept my eyes on the screen. Some people will just get sick on this ride! When we went to enter our capsule, we saw a grown man sitting there with vomit all over him!! Of course they showed us to another capsule! There is a reason they have a full time staff of maintenance workers just for this ride!!

I am glad I went on it once, but will not be going again. As for my DH and DD15 and DD13, they will be going on again, and again!!

I had gone before all the stories of "protein spills" circulated, and thought it was a great ride, certainly one of disney's best. I single lined it twice in a row early in the morning before breakfast (ya never know); just do what they say, keep your head back and look straight ahead - don't turn your head to the side.

Go and enjoy!

I think you have to remember that everyone is "wired" a little differently. Some of the posts make it sound like you will not get sick unless you do not follow the "rules."

I personally did not feel the spinning--even when I tried to--I just felt the pressure. My dh, however, paid careful attention to all of the rules, because he has a tendency toward motion sickness. He took Bonine. He kept his head back and did not look to the sides. He could feel the spinning the entire time. He said lift-off was like spiraling up the ramp. He did everything that he was told to, yet he could barely move for about 4 hours after that ride.

He didn't complain, because he knew it was his own fault. He should have listened to the warnings about spinning and motion sickness, but he wanted to give it a try.

So go ahead and try it. You may be pleasantly surprised. But don't make it sound like anyone who gets sick was doing something wrong.

I have a really strong stomach but I'll have to admit....this ride made me nauseous. The only other ride to ever make me feel this bad was body wars. I was really disappointed cuz I was so excited to go on MS but I couldn't enjoy it cuz I was working so hard to fight back getting physically ill. I envy you guys who can do it.

I have to agree! You cannot go by everyone elses experience. I get motion sick on a swing, my sister has never suffered motion sickness in her life...she CALLED me from WDW because we had a trip planned a few months after her, she told me she went on MS, and not only was she sick getting off the ride, she stayed sick the rest of the day and half of the next day. That news scared me. IF she was that sick, what would the ride do to me? When the time of our trip finally arrived, the day we were in Epcot, my DS 7 wanted to go on. I asked DH to take him, and he didn't want to go on. I didn't want my Ds to miss out on a "new" ride, so I toughened up, and prayed that my sister's experience was her's alone. I read all the rules from DIS about not looking around, I didn't even push my share of the buttons (to my DS's horror! He thought our roles were real) even ON the ride, I had the pre-vomit coughing going on, throat closing up, ect. I was in a near panic that I was going to lose breakfast right on the ride. I managed to keep it down, but when I got off, I told my family NEVER will I ride MS again. And if it means my DH won't go on, then DS will just have to wait until he is old enough to go on alone.

To everyone who has ridden it and felt fine afterwards, lucky you! But, if you are a serious motion sick person, I would not even try it. BLECH.

Star Tours makes me more sick than Mission Space! I was ready to chicken out because of all the warning signs. I not only get motion sickness, but I also am a bit claustrophobic. The claustophobia was the bigger problem for me. I was thankful they had air blowing directly on us. That helped settle me until the ride started. Once it started I felt fine because it looked like I was in space and had all the air I needed!

I get seasick on a boat in the ocean. I rode this ride 4 times in a row last january and never felt any ill effects from it. I think it is one of Disney's best rides. I think people worry too much about it. They get all worked up that they will get sick and end up bringing it on themselves.

what do you mean stuck on mars or something? i've never been on it and i will go on depite of what the people who got sick on it because i live on thrill rides!

DD(13) and I rode Mission Space in early June during our first family vacation to Disney. DH and other DDs ages 4 and 8 didn't ride it b/c of motion sickness warnings. DH got sick on Rock N Roller Coaster at MGM the day before and he knew there was no way he could handle this one. So DD and I got on the ride, nervous b/c of all the warnings you hear nonstop. Then seeing the barf bag in front of us as we sat down just sent us over the edge! We started laughing and being silly joking about having just ate lunch w/details that are too graphic right now to get into. ;) We loved it. Yes we felt the pressure like everyone else but never noticed the spinning. I think all the warnings ahead of time psych you up alot and get people jittery before which just makes it worse. However, if you have the least bit of motion sickness or fear of tight spaces, I would not recommend this ride. Nor would I recommend Tower of Terror, Rock N roller Coaster or Space Mtn. Disney is so awesome there will be plenty of other great things to do.

What I mean about being stuck on Mars: The whole idea of the ride is that you have been selected to go to mars. You blast off and land on mars and then the ride is over. You never come back to earth.

First time I rode I was pretty apprehensive about the motion sickness. It kind of spoiled my first mars voyage and I felt a little woozy for an hour or two after(no protein spill though).

Next trip I decided to give it one more go, and enjoyed it much more, and wasn't woozy at all. I'm still not brave enough to go on it if I have eaten anything that day. I say go first thing, then go to breakfast:D
