Hey everyone!!!
My family and I are leaving for WDW in 2 days and were wondering about mission:space. We've heard a lot of bad things on the tv about numerous people getting sick. Is it really that rough? What does it do that is making it so hard on people's stomac's!? I was thinking, maybe it was because most people don't think of it as a thrill ride, so the patrons that wouldn't ride tower of terror or rock 'n' roller coaster ride mission:space and end up getting sick. If anyone has any information, we would greatly appreciate it. Nothing's worse than having sick family members all day because of a ride!!!! Thanks a bunch!!

I didn't find it to be very intense, at least not compared to what I expected from the hype and the talk on the boards. I think Disney is going out of its way to emphasize the sickness angle (witness the much bally-hooed barf bag introduction) in order to make the ride sound more attractive to teenage thrill-seekers. If you can handle Rock-n-Roller Coaster, you can certainly handle this.

My DS and I rode Mission: Space last June five times before the "official" opening. It is an awesome experience. Unlike anything I can describe.
I would not suggest anyone eating an hour or so before going on. This should resolve any stomach problems.
Also, simply listen to the instructions given by the Cast Members. On this ride it is very important to do what they tell you.
If you follow these steps I think you should all be fine.
Enjoy!!!!!

I've done M:S one time and thought it was fun. I felt a bit light-headed for an hour or so after the ride. I will try one more time, and if I get that light headed thing again, that will be my last mission. Also I would make it a point to go on an empty stomach;)

I agree, if you can handle the other rides you should be fine. My girls 6 & 9 went on twice and loved it, but gave their fast passes away for Rockin Rollercoaster...maybe next time. TOT they liked but declined a second ride. Have fun!

My DH, DS (11), DS (8) and Brother and SIL and nephew (11) and neice (9) just did it last week. I opted out because I felt motion sick after Body Wars so I figured I better skip this one. Anyway, they went to wait in line (it said 30 minute wait) this was on an Epcot Early Entry day, and they ended up waiting in line for 90 minutes  because someone did get sick and they said the whole bay has to come down and be completely cleaned not just that one particular section. Besides that, they enjoyed the ride and didn't think it was too bad. I think it is the simulation that makes people sick more than it being a thrill ride. Simulation things make me feel car sick, so that is why I avoided it. But on the other hand, I rode Rock-n-Roller Coaster about 4 times. They are just totally different rides.

We (my two cousins and I) went on MS this past December. We three women range in age from 46 -51.

I was also quite worried about this due to all the "sick" reports, but wanted very much to try it out at least once. I do not get sick or dizzy when watching those Omni-Max movies that make you feel as though you are actually there, so I thought I'd be OK.

Loved the ride! One day we went on it twice in a row and one day three times in a row - couldn't believe it was a "walk-on" with no lines. Took our FPs home as a souvenir.

Have to say that three times in a row was a bit much. Did get off that last time feeling a bit light-headed, but that feeling lasted only a few minutes. One of my cousins got a headache - but she is subject to migraines, anyway. Her headache did last awhile, but she said she thought it was coming on before we even got to EPCOT.

Anyway, I think you should try it. It is quite an experience! I realize some have gotten sick and don't mean to minimize their experience. But FWIW, we saw no one who got sick, so I think the reports have been exaggerated.

As already noted, be sure to follow the CMs directions about looking straight ahead and NOT closing your eyes.

Have fun!

It really depends on you. Have you have gotten sick on a ride? Do you get motion sickness? If you don't, then try Mission: Space.

As other suggested I wouldn't eat for 2 hours before, especially the first time.

My son(10) and I rode it 4x in one weekend when we were down there last Labor Day. It's an awesome ride. We managed to get it so we sat in a different seat each time. That first seat on the left is the hardest job. Its the engineer, I think. You're so busy with blast off you forget to hit your button.

Oh and don't be afraid to play with all the switchs and knobs and buttons. That's what they are there for. :D

Have a fun trip!!

I have ridden on Mission: Space three times and didn't have any problems with feeling sick or lightheaded. I do get car sick, but don't have problems with motion simulator rides (go figure). It is an awesome ride. You don't feel like you're spinning, at least I didn't, but you feel like you are lifting off. It's great!
:teeth:

I was nervous about this ride too because of all the hype. It really was not too bad. Following the instructions to keep your head back and stay focused on the screen is the key. Also, so NOT close your eyes and you should be fine. My DS16 rode it two times in a row and was fine.

My husband and I (75 and 63) rode this last week. We both have pretty strong stomachs (him more than me). I've never been sick on a ride, except for a queasy feeling after my grandson spun the heck out of the teacups. I also get carsick on windy mountain roads and if I'm reading, but only on an empty stomach. So I defied conventional wisdom and ate a pretty substantial breakfast and went on soon after. I was so darn nervous (grabbed that bag as soon as I got on) I feel like I couldn't really focus on the experience. But I didn't get sick at all; felt a little wobbly when I got off for about 1/2 hour. Going with my 9 year old grandson next week (I'm the only one in the family willing to ride with him) and this time I'm not going to worry about it and just go with the flow. It's really unique; the only close comparison I can think of is Star Tours (I've never been on the Body ride). But even Star Tours is similar only at the end of Mission Space. There's nothing else like the lift-off experience.
