For anyone who has done both rides, exactly how are they different? I know they mention it in various books and on various sites, but I'm looking for a first-hand account. I've been on Green and I didn't think it was that bad at all. In fact, I enjoyed the Green version A LOT.

When I return to EPCOT in July, should I give Orange a try with my DBF??? I'm quite good at tolerating rides that tend to give people motion sickness (except MAYBE the Teacups), but I don't want to do something that I'll regret.

Thanks!

Mission:SPACE "Green Team" offers a "less intense" version of the "full intensity" ("Orange Team") original ride.

The Orange Team capsules DO spin on the centrifuge axis.
The centrifuge is what creates the increased gravitational force
in the capsule which will simulate rocket take-off, weightlessness, and other of the amazing effects in the ride.
In addition to the spinning centrifuge action, the capsules tilt back and forth as the images change on the screen.
This tilting works with the centrifuge to give the rider a realistic illusion of the various increased/decreased "G-forces" of space travel.

The "less intense" Green Teams capsules do NOT spin on the centrifuge axis.
(They do not power the centrifuge motors in these capsules.)
But the capsules DO tilt back and forth as the images change on the screen.
This tilting can, to a lesser degree, give the rider an illusion of the motion of space travel.
But without the increased G-forces of the Orange Team capsules.

Orange for me was bad. :sad2: When we sat down I told my friend that I thought the 'barf bags' were funny in front of each person. Yeah...they weren't so funny by the end of the ride. I really thought I may need one. I just left the attraction and went out side for some fresh air.

Orange is intense, and I've been on pretty much every kind of thrill ride out there. It is an amazing experience though and I'm glad that I did it. The "blast off" was awesome! I was a little wobbly on my first few steps afterwards but felt pretty much fine after that. DH felt a little uneasy the next 30 minutes or so. We went on it right before lunch so our stomachs were emptier and we had the lunch hour to relax and take it easy before hitting the park again.

We did "Orange" back when it was the only choice, before the Green. We were at WDW when they had the initial grand opening, and I remember an interview on TV with a real NASA astronaut who said the ride was more realistic than some of the NASA simulators. That being said, we HATED the ride. Way too intense, and I can do any other ride in Orlando. My wife just freaked out and closed her eyes, and I tried to do what I could, but didn't enjoy it, and fely queasy for a good 30 minutes or more afterwards. I don't know if they've toned down (what's now) the Orange side after the initial deaths and other problems they had -- or if the Green option is it.

So, if I'm not good (as in really bad) on spinning rides, I should stick to the green, right? My DH keeps trying to convince me to do orange with him and insists that you can't tell you're spinning. I find that very hard to believe and do not want to be the one needing the barf bag or being miserable the rest of the day. Am I right to resist his insistence on this one?

Me too. I remember thinking "oh funny! Barf bags!" I was pretty close to grabbing one on the way out.
I enjoy the Green team. The only difference I personally noticed was that I didn't feel the need to find a shady spot to sit and calm my insides down after.

That's what I'm wondering- I'm ok with EVERY other ride. Tower of Terror doesn't get me sick, Dinosaur doesn't get me sick, nothing gets me queasy.... but one time I went on a Teacup-like ride at Six Flags with my friends who decided to spin our car very quickly for the entire ride.... and I was miserable for the next 30 minutes or so. That said, the car was spinning for like 2-3 minutes straight. The Orange ride doesn't spin for the entire time, right? Because if it doesn't, then I THINK I'll be ok with it.

I love roller coasters and thrill rides. I love going upside down, spinning, as fast as possible, straight down, in the dark, whatever. You name it, I'll do it.

That all being said, during the blast off during Mission Space: orange side, I almost thought I was going to pass out.

Not that it'll stop me from doing it again.

At the time I was there I had high blood pressure and was very nervous about going on the ride. In fact I walked out of line the first time. DW told me not to do the Orange. Signs warned of heart conditions. So I walked off.

That evening, DW took Dd back to the hotel and I stayed because I wanted to give it a go as well as test track. Since there was NO lines at all I figured what the heck.

As I debated over green or orange, the thrill seeker in me took over, and off I went down the orange line.

Needless to say I was nervous. I actually thought...what if I have a heart attack? Am I crazy for taking this chance? Yup!

The ride wasn't nearly as intense as I thought it was going to be. Though it was still great. I had no problems. In fact, my blood pressure was probably elevated more due to my anxiety.

I can't wait to do it again.

My younger sister has done both. While she never reached for the barf bag while taking the orange ride, she swore off team orange after that and stuck with team green. She tells me that she felt a little queasy after taking the ride. So my guess is, when in doubt, go for green.
This upcoming trip I am going with someone who I actually advised to take the green team. This would mean we would be going on by ourselves (I am not missing the fun of orange!) but I would hate for her to get sick. Have fun!

Last June, the girls did Green and the boys did Orange (DH was in he AF for several years and was excited about Orange team).

When we met up with the boys afterwards, they didn't look so good. DH said his head hurt and was feeling the effects on his whole body. We had to take a break outside in the shade (we were waiting on our FP time for TT anyway) and let the boys relax a bit. Neither of them needed to make use of the complimentary baggie on the ride, and they were fine afterwards (and would be willing to go again), but they did need a little break afterwards.

I got queasy on the Green team, so I wouldn't dare try Orange. . .

But if you try the ride, perhaps allow for a break afterwards if it does a number on your body.

Orange is significantly more intense and a much more realistic experience, but Green is still a really good ride and a great experience. Orange team is a much more satisfying experience if your a thrill junkie like me

First let me say that I'm a trill-ride junkie and DH gets sick on spinning rides.

Our first time experiencing MS there was only one version and knowing it spinned we did it last thing at night before leaving the park (you may want to try it this way) that way we wouldn't ruin the whole day, he did fine and did not get sick. Our last time there with DH we decided to go as a family on the mild version and not separate the group. I was pleasantly surprised and thought the sensations were still awesome and still totally worth the wait. I was glad to have tried both. Good luck.

Me, my husband, my sons 9 and 12 all rode orange and loved it. It's a great ride, and the original version of Mission Space. The green side came later. Will you like it? Only one way to find out!

I am obsessed with rides so I am different but I find green boring compared to orange! Orange is awesome! The intial take off feels awesome and out of this world!!!!

Carly -

In my opinion, NO - the Orange side is not for you. If I were to try to compare it to any other ride, I would say the tea cups, or a very fast spinning ride.

I am actually OK with EVERY OTHER ride out there, including the tea cups, but when I rode the Orange side it suddenly and unexpectedly pushed me into my seat and I felt very closed in the chest. I almost had a panic attack. Not something I had ever experienced before and something I most definitely NEVER want to experience again.

I mean, you'll never know unless you try, but I have a gut feeling that you won't like it. And if you DO decide to try it, DON'T look left or right at all while on the ride. It tells you to stare straight ahead and I made the mistake of glancing at my dad (who had an even worst time then I did) and I paid for it dearly.

The other difficult thing is that you are in a small enclosed space and you can't leave the ride early. There is no stop button. There is no room to wiggle. You are stuck. I do not look back fondly on this ride at all and I caution anyone else who wants to try it.

There is absolutely a "panic" or stop mechanism.

I love your attitude! This is exactly how I feel about RnRC, it almost kills me but I LOVE it! I may have to try M:S now, I've never looked at it as a must do.
