Mission Space Claustrophobic

Could the imagineers still have made mission space realistic while given riders a bit more room inside the capsules?

I wonder if they regret not giving a bit more room to people?

I am having a panic attack just reading these replies. I have ridden it once. I am a bit claustrophobic but this just did it for me. I didn't freak out and the air blowing on me helped. But I can't see me riding this one again.

This is kind of how I feel.

Funny thing is... I never knew the ride spun you around until I read it on the boards one day. Once I found that out it changed my whole opinion. Even though you can't see yourself being spun around, the thought of it now freaks me out a bit. I HATE rides that just spin around and around. I can do every trill ride but those. I go to Great Adventure and Ceder Point and ride every coaster. Twice. Mission Space... once might be enough

The fans are probably there to try to keep people from having panic attacks. That's a well-known way to try to avert a panic attack, some people will even carry a handheld battery-operated fan if they are prone to them.

Ride the Green one. Much less movement and a shorter line.

I too do not like confined spaces but after the first 10sec and the show got started (the green one is more of a bumpy show rather than a ride) I was totally fine.

It will also help if you only go with 2-3 people so you can have a good chance to have the seat next to you open.

I'm not sure how much that helps. There is a wall between each seat.

I think they need to add a bar for Mission Space like they are adding for ToT - but with specialty green and orange cocktails.

That is a great picture for someone who has never seen the ride. Now picture the consoles on the left side of the picture coming towards the seats. :scared:

I think the fans are also trying to prevent 'protein spills', as 'fresh' air definitely helps.

I worked at MS during one of my college programs. It can definitely be intense for people who don’t like small spaces. I am definitely don’t love this ride. I have done both sides, but was a one and done with Orange. It wasn’t so much the tight spaces, but the g forces that did me in. If you think you may freak out when the door closes, you need to let the CM know as you are climbing in the vehicles. Once the doors close, it is very hard for them to hear panic guests so you are “stuck” till the ride ends. Make sure you look at the screen at entire time. Most people get sick once they start looking at their kids to check on them. Most kids handle the ride quite well as their center of gravity is lower than ours. Finally, we did keep it cold in there to help with keeping people from getting sick. I mean it’s like really cold in there, that is why a lot of people wear coats even when its 90+ outside. Don’t worry, if you get to the capsule and decide it’s not for you, someone can show you to the exit.

Over the last couple of years I have done this ride many times, mainly orange. I noticed that as I got older, when I would just enter the booth and I was waiting for the ride to start I started to feel a little uneasy, but I was able to calm myself down and once it got started I enjoyed it. Anyhow, the very last time I was on this ride, I was waiting for it to start, and they announced technical difficulties, and I was stuck in that thing for at least 10 minutes (don't know if that was real time or anxiety talking-- thankful for that cold air blowing on me!). Anyhow I will NEVER go on this ride again and I am pretty sure that it sped up my "claustrophobia". Thankfully I still love spinning rides!!!

After numerous trips I decided to try this ride about a month ago. I don't like small places so had skipped it on all the other trips but stupid me thought I could handle it. So my wife, daughter and I get on. I sit down, not to bad, then the shoulder harness comes down, ok no big deal, then that dang whole front portion came forward. I flipped out, heck my heart rate right now is about through the roof just typing this. Here I am a 40 year old guy freaking out screaming like a little girl to get me the hell out of there. Scared the crap out of my daughter so she is crying uncontrollably because she has never seen her dad or anybody act like this. My wife was on the outside seat, her knuckles were scratched and just about bleeding from pounding on the side to open the thing up. They finally opened it up and I was outside that building in about .4 seconds flat. My wife said she didn't know what she would have done if the ride has started, I said it really would not have made a difference to me because I would have flat passed out. I do not want to ever have that feeling again.

I was this close to being HODOR from Game of Thrones for the rest of my life but it would have been ODOR, OPEN THE DOOR, OPEN T DOOR, ODOOR!!!!!!!! Doomed to a life of going ODOR ODOR as I rock back and forth in my own little world till I die.
