Purchasing AP for my son

We are long-time DVC members who can purchase the AP with a discount. My son is 23 but lives with us (as his drivers license shows) since he is still in school. Can I purchase an AP for him with our discount and will he be able to activate it/go into the park on his own if I am not in Florida at the time he first enters the park? I know I can call member services to ask and my experience is that it's not always 100% accurate when questions get down to this kind of detail. I'm thinking someone here may have had this situation recently and may know the practical application.

Thanks in advance.

Nice of you for doing this for him!

I did this a few years ago for my 22 year old son. He showed proof of residency that matched ours. The CM took care of this in person at the AK ticket counter. Although we did this in person, I hope what you describe would be ok - especially as a student with the same address.

I hope it works out for you.

Were you with your son at the AK ticket counter? That might make a difference?

According to what I am reading, the Sorcerer pass is only available to members and Florida residents. Unless your adult son is on the membership, he is not a DVC member and would not be eligible to purchase the Sorcerer pass due to DVC membership.

Now what pixie dusting are cast members willing to do? Nobody can predict that.

OP’s son is eligible since he lives in the same household & members can purchase sorcerer’s APs for themselves & members of their household (max 8.)
The issue is activating the pass w/out OP present - I’ve read it can be done if your son has a copy of your ID w/ him - but I’d call & verify that.

Oh nice, so he is eligible. Great! Why does the pass need to be activated? When I bought my sorcerer pass with member services back when they first became available again, I just tapped in to the park when I arrived. No activation necessary.

You’re right. That could be important. He and I were there together, but I’m hoping OP’s son could activate without OP present since by the rules the pass qualifies (based upon same household) by my understanding.

Other posters are correct - getting a flexible/knowledgeable CM is key.

I too bought the Sorcerer’s pass I activated in Oct. by calling MS & was able to just tap in at my first park w/out visiting GS. Apparently others have had to activate the pass w/ a stop at GS - it’ll show on your MDE whether you need to activate or not - see this thread from a couple of days ago https://www.disboards.com/threads/dvc-card-for-sorcerer-pass-activation.3975622/.
I’m not sure whether the difference in if you have to activate at WDW or not is based on how you purchased it - online or through a call to the general WDW tickets/AP line v. a call to DVC MS. Or if calling DVC MS to purchase would work to bypass WDW activation in cases like OP’s where the pass is for a member of your household who is not an owner on your membership 🤷‍♀️.

Maybe that's the difference, I called in to Member Services to buy it initially and at each renewal thereafter.

Just to note: DVC members no longer get a discount. We just get the ability to buy a Sorcerer's AP. Otherwise you would have to be a Florida resident.

Up until recently we had purchased the DVC Sorcerer's Pass for our grown DS who lived with us and we still purchase one for our DD 19 who lives with us and is in college. I think as long as the addresses match you are good and he should be able to activate it without you.

It is definitely anyone in the household. I have bought the sorcerer pass for my 80+ year old mom since she lives in the same household. I can't answer about the activating as I have been there with her every time when we enter the park the first time. Last few years, I have not had to stop at guest services and been able to enter the park and did not have to show any ID or DVC card.
