Mission Space - as bad as they say?

My mom and I went on it. Ironically she HATES things that spin, so when they said that the cars spin around in a circle, she almost wouldn't go on it. I finally convinced her she was being wussy and to go on it, she'd be fine. The funny thing is, SHE thought it was kinda cool and enjoyable.... I thought I was going to barf and normally I have a stomach of steel. Also, although I am normally not at all claustrophobic, I started feeling a bit panicky in the midst of it... was definitely not a fun experience for me, which was extra disappointing since it replaced Horizons which was one of my all time favorite rides :( All in all, it seems to be hit or miss with people, but your tolerance of other rides seems to have little to do with it as my mom and I prove :)

I rode it a while after it opened, but not during the very first days. Although I was impressed by the technology, I was disappointed by the G's- it did not seem to me that it really simulated a real launch. Although I have no first hand experience. I guess I was a victim of over-hype.

I never saw anyone being sick, I never felt any ill effects, and I never thought the created motion was any big deal. I doubt whether the simulated G's are more than say, a big roller coaster drop.

I've been ignoring anything to do with Mission Space since we first rode it in 2004. I had heard something about a less intense version but I didn't realize that there was green / orange / extreme. After 2004 I said no more MS for me. I felt terrible most of the ride - (eyes were open / looked straight ahead). The rest of my family did okay but I had to lay down outside for 1/2 hour and was pretty much shot for rest of the evening - didn't throw up though but it likely would have been better if I had. It's funny how we're all different - I ride Star Tours and I don't feel anything - I almost can't even understand why people would compare the 2 rides. It sounds like this green version of MS might be worth a try.

LOL, I find this so funny! As if any of us know what a real launch would feel like (I know you stated this) :rotfl2:

On a side note my cousin and her husband are both engineers for NASA. She came to EPCOT with us last week to visit and refused to ride MS because of the G Force...who knows maybe it is a pretty good simulator.

We have riddent the extreme side in the past and haven't had any problems with it. We saw one lady a couple of years ago that had some problems.

I get sick on Star Tours but the 'green' line at M:S is fine, I did it 3 times in a row (twice after I'd finally persuaded my son to try it)

I tried it before they created a tamer version. I don't get motion sick, but after getting off this ride, I felt lightheaded and woozy for a few hours and had to take it easy. :faint: When I was riding it, I didn't think it could end soon enough. But, my friend that rode it with me loved it and felt completely fine! It just depends on the person.

I get motion sickness very rarely. I get sick if I try to read in the car and I get sick on rides where you spin around and around (i.e., the teacups). That's about it. I really really want to go on this ride. I guess trying the "tame" side first is a good idea. I *think* we did Star Tours when we were there for our honeymoon (April 2002). Obviously I didn't get sick because I would have remembered that. :thumbsup2

The ride wasn't up yet when we were there on our honeymoon and I was so disappointed. I'm excited to ride it! :Pinkbounc I've heard people say that if you just follow the directions, don't close your eyes, keep your head back, watch the screen, etc. you'll be fine. True?

Define the "spinning" for me. Is it like the teacups, or like one of those centrifuge rides where you're inside the equivalent of a salad spinner and the gravity makes you stick to the walls?

This is not always true. I did everything like you are told to, I have never suffered from motion sickness before and I still got sick from this ride. I'm willing to give the Green side a try but I will never get on the Orange side again.

My DD rode it and felt fine, and this is a kid who couldn't sit on a swing because she got sick if you pushed her "too fast", always gets car sick when we go to the mountains, and threw up 3 times during her first flying lesson.

I skipped MS for many trips because I get very car sick, and even Star Tours makes me a little woosy, but this past trip we got surprise FPs for MS when we got FPs for Test Track. I didn't want to pass up the great opportunity to try the spinning version so I slapped on my motion sickness bracelets and went. I kept my head absolutely glued to the back of the seat and didn't dare look anywhere else except the screen. The first few seconds I did feel a bit off but I got used to the Gs and started whooping and hollering with everyone else. I LOVED IT!!!

I went on it again and forgot to put on my motion sickeness bracelets. I had a bit of a headache afterwards, but nothing a little excedrin couldn't cure. I'm so upset that I've missed out on such an awesome experience for so long, but I totally understand the fear of ruining an entire day if the ride makes you sick.

After my experience, I say you have to try it to really know. Star Tours made me more sick than MS. See if you can get a FP for late in the day and give it a try so you can go home and sleep if you feel sick.

I get motion sickness and I DID NOT get sick on the original version. I didn't like it, though, not because of the launch sensation, but, silly me, I forgot that the idea of being launched into space really freaks me out. I didn't realize that we would have a visual of the launch in front of us! So, it was cool, I survived, but not something I need to do again.

DH liked it and DBil went like 4-5 times in a row.

And then there's "Body Wars."

If the rumors are true (I'm still skeptical), then WoL MIGHT be opening for the holidays this year.

So if "Body Wars" is still operational and open...
Now, THERE'S a ride than can shake up even the stoutest "wiggle-ride" lovers!

It's not that bad.

People get sick on it - saw one today, for that matter - but it's because they don't heed the warnings. Don't look away from the screen and don't close your eyes or, well, your bad.

MS is fine as long as you don't close your eyes or look around (made that mistake only once  ) , Look straight ahead and keep your eyes open! It's a great ride though and you should try it atleast once. As for Star Tours..... :crazy2: That gets me sick everytime... and I remember when Body wars was open.. that ride was amazing, in that it will make everyone sick everytime :rotfl2:

I don't know when they toned it down, but when I rode it in may '04...It made me sick...I had the barf bag up to my mouth and ready to go. Fortunately, nothing actually 'happened' and the ride that seemed like it would never end, did. ;)
