Missing "The Old Place"

I'm in the planning/researching stages - thinking of buying and I have wondered the same thing. In fact, we've been toying with this idea for years...4 to be exact and this is one reason we opted not to do it.

However, I didn't know you could visit any pool at any resort - is that true???? That's very cool. Of course, if you're staying at BCV why would you want another pool..

We love the Poly - and I'm afraid I would miss it. But, if I can visit the pool, and just visit the resort in general maybe it wouldn't be so bad. As much money as we've spent at Disney deluxe resorts.....we could have already paid for DVC. I could kick myself for not doing this sooner.

Right now, I'm comparing buying through Disney and a resale. Found a great resale - 200 points at the Boardwalk - with 118 points banked. Points avail. 6/1 and we couldn't go before then anyway - couldn't close really before then I guess.

Any sage advice on buying resale vs. new? Or should I start a new thread....
sorry, didn't mean to steal yours. I liked your question. Smart one!

I confess. I didn't read all the replies.

I will continue to spend a few nights at The Poly and AKL. We love those resorts, and I see nothing wrong with using points for something we enjoy.

At some point we may also give The GF a try. Last trip we tried The YC and were okay with it, but wouldn't stay there again. :drinking:

PamNC...I'm right with you! I'm considering buying, but I've just started the research & I'm VERY confused at this point! I'm anxious to buy right NOW, but I don't know how the whole system works, which resort seems to be the best, etc... Confusion has totally set in!

With some restrictions...

SAB and the pool at AKL are nto included. In addition, you are supposed to callin advance to make sure the pools not over crowded. There are also some blackout dates (times when pools wouldikely be too crowded anyway). Other than that, yes pool hopping is a DVC perk. (As will all perks, though, this is subject to change.)

No offense, no stealing, just good to know others have similar questions.

I think I have concluded if I had the money right now I would be all over the DVC! I just got back from a trip at one of the "regular" onsite properties and although it was nice and somewhat economical...didn't compare to a DVC from a people standpoint. I know that sounds snobbish but DVC feels like more of a special club rather thatn being one of the general public all cramming in to one place. Even though it is near impossible to put a $ figure on the repeat visit factor, it is HUGE in my book. Just knowing that you will be back year after year has got to lesson the burden of the commando thing tenfold.

BTW- we as a family have been debating the buy DVC, buying a camper and stay at FW as well as being able to go other places with the camper, or just do occasional visits to DW with saved money and stay at value resorts. The last trip was to test out a value resort (Pop). While I liked the resort ok for the price(even though I payed rack rate at spring break-ouch), the people factor was a huge turn off for me. Too many- and too many misbehaving kids and ADULTS! :rotfl2:

Long long ago, in a galaxy far far way.......
we used to stay at CBR... I do miss it sometimes... I have gone over to the food court to eat and walk around... and that cures my "CBR jones".
Our last non-dvc trips we stayed at WL, so our WLV stays are nearly the same thing.

Actually, I really enjoy staying at the campground - we have a RV (popup). We were pointless last fall so we took a nonDVC trip...4 nights at the AKL and a week at the campground. We had a wonderful time! Don't get me wrong - we have 3 DVC contracts and a fair number of point because we really like the BCV. Sandie

PS we have gone from taking a trip every other year to now we try and go twice a year. Thank you DVC.

So glad to find this thread - I thought I may be the only one who might miss her "old" resort if I buy into DVC. I just don't think my DH will like Saratoga Springs the way he loves the WL. So for now I am hesitant. I even have a DVC guide and have talked the her a few times, but I have yet to put down the deposit. I think I might regret not being at WL and so close to the MK.

Than have you considered the resale market for a VWL contract??? Then you both get what you want.

We are new DVC owners and have not even stayed at a DVC resort yet. Our first trip home will be in December. We fell in love with AKL last year, but we have 5 children so we really need suite type accomodations.

You might own at SSR, but there is no reason you can't stay at VWL sometimes. Unless you are only going during holiday season (easter and Christmas) there is no reason to think that you might not be able to stay at VWL. We love BCV, but we own at VWL, so far we have stayed at BCV the most and it is always our 1st choice. Wait lists often come through.
