missing person on ADR

My MIL is supposed to be joining us for part of our next trip, but she isn't sure which days she will be able to make and probably will not know until around a month before the trip. If I make all of our ADRs for 6 people at 180days, can I reduce the number when I find out which ones she will be attending or do I have to cancel the entire reservation and rebook? The other option would be to just leave it at 6 and show up with 5, in that case would I pay the $10 fee for her "no-show" fee or is that only if you skip the entire ADR?

I asked a CM on the phone and they told me that you can call and have them MODIFY your reservation to cut out the extra person. Others have said that you won't be charged the fee as long as part of your party shows up. You definitely don't want to cancel and rebook it as you may end up losing the reservation entirely if you do it that way.

Make the reservations for the maximum number of people who might be there. You can either call and modify the reservations once you know for certain when your MIL will be joining you or you could just show up at the restaurant and let the CMs at the podium know that there are only 5 of you. This would be my choice since in most cases a party of 5 or 6 would be seated at a 6 top and I figure with so many glitches in the computer system the less I fiddle with my reservations, the better off I am. You will not be charged for the missing person as long as at least one person shows up for the reservation.

The only reservations I would call and modify to the correct number are the pre-paid CRT, dinner shows or any other pre-paid reservations. Just be sure in this case the CM knows how to modify the res and doesn't want to cancel, refund your cc and re-book because in that brief period someone else might capture the reservation and you would now be without a res.
