Missing my loving dog

I am so sorry. We had to put our almost 10 year old dog to sleep this fall and it was a very painful experience. I still miss him every day, and I haven't been able to get rid of his food dishes, crate or leash yet.

With time it does get better, though. Snickers will be with you forever, whether it's by your side or in your heart. I am sending you lots of hugs and strength to get through this. He sounds like he was incredibly loved and had a wonderful life.

I still have all of Spencer's things in a box. We have his collar, leash, toys, bowls and his Christmas stocking - I even have his brush. :)

Very sorry to read that, tinkerbell615. For sure, you did all you could, with love, for eleven wonderful years. His memories are there for a lifetime, and beyond.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I just wanted to say hi and let you know I'm thinking of you.

We are going through something similar with our dog right now. Every day he coughs more...we are dreading when the day comes. I'm looking at him and crying right now. He's an amazing dog.

I think your feelings of guilt are normal, but just remember he knew he was in loving hands here on this Earth and you will be together again. :lovestruc

"Dan Murphy" This is one of the neatest things I have ever seen.

Once again. Thanks to all of you very much.

I had to put my dog to sleep last night after 11 wonderful years with him. He was a beautiful and loving chocolate laborador retriever. He has been putting up such a good fight for the last year and a half. He had an enlarged heart. He had fluid around his heart and coughed frequently because of it. I did everything I possibly could to help him to have a good quality life after finding out. I really believe he was just ready to go. He was tired of fighting.

I am really missing him terribly. I feel in some ways like I let him down because I could not do more. The vet did tell my family that he would never get better, but in my heart I always hoped that the medicine would make it better. It is ripping my heart to pieces. Thanks for listening.

I am so sorry. I had to put mine to sleep on the 21st. I feel like you do, knowing I did everything possible for her to have a good quality of life, trying treatments, she had cushings among other things, and I feel like I let her down. I miss her. I lost my dad last year so I hope they are together.

I'm so sorry. :hug:We had to put our dog to sleep in October and I miss her every day.

I lost a pet in June of this year and I still feel very sad. I'm so sorry about your loss, it's hard I know.

I am so sorry. One of the hardest decisions we can make is knowing when the right time has come to let our beloved pets go. Dealing with the grief and second guessing our decision is so natural. Deep down you know your furbaby had a great like filled with love and happiness. Your dog is so grateful to you for being so unselfish. I hope your thoughts and memories of him bring you comfort.

I also understand what you are going through. I lost my best buddy, Griffin a couple of months ago. I still miss him terribly. I have also had feelings of guilt, but I know in my mind that it was the only option. My heart just can't seem to accept it. Please try not to beat yourself up, OP. You did the kindest thing for him.

"luvsmickeymouse" That is so strange. I also lost my dad last year and I told Snickers that he would be meeting up with dad.

I am also so sorry for those of your who have also lost your pets. They are our family members. It is so hard.

We too lost our beloved dog slightly more than a year after losing my dad. My kids said almost immediately that grandpa would take care of him -- and feed him WAY too much! All these years later, I still so hope that's true. I miss them both & know they will be great companions together.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It does stay with you, but the wonderful thing is with a pet almost every memory makes you smile -- very little regrets and no arguments to dwell on, just unconditional love. I hope those memories you have will bring a smile to your face without any hint of tears very, very soon.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's such a difficult decision to make...we love them so & they're such a big part of our life & our family. Sending you hugs.:grouphug:
