hello everyone !

first would like to say this is a great site, and from what i have already read everybodys seems really friendly.

i have booked a 4 night stay at the disneyland paris hotel from 15 jan to 19 jan 2007 for myself/ partner and 2 children.

HERE IS THE PROBLEM

to gain this holidy i am having to miss this christmas and new year away from my family ! - now i am not feeling sorry for my self , i am just working out in my own head if i have made the right dessicion.

i will be working 8 am till 8 pm from the 23rd december to the 1 january 2007 and driving time of 2 hours a day on top of them hours.

the money offered to do this has paid for the holiday and alot of spending money to take as well. - so it saves me saving up all year to go to DLP.

this will be the first year i have not been there at christmas for my children who are aged 7 and 12.

the kids do not know about the holiday yet and they also do not know i am woking all over christmas.

should i give the kids the holiday tickets when i get home christmas day ( as i feel really guilty for not being there) or keep it a secret until the day we go ?

i will be able to phone home a few time in the christmas day to talk to my kids and i am hoping with all the presents they get to keep them amused they will not miss me much anyway!

i hope i have made the right choice for my family - DLP is the best place we have ever been - so i can make it up to every one when we are there !

any advise/comments about the situation would be great.

many thanks

Ski.

Welcome to the board!!! :Pinkbounc

I understand your worry, but hopefully your kids will be okay about you not being there on Christmas day when they find out the reason why. I would definitely tell them on Christmas Day, as it will make the day happier for everyone, and then give you all a chance to talk and plan about it together.

Then come the 15th Jan, when you've checked in to the Disneyland Hotel, and you step into a wonderfully quiet Disneyland Park for the first time - I'm sure you will all be very happy!! :cloud9:

Hope you don't find too difficult either, being away from your children :grouphug:

thanks for reply ! :thumbsup2

yes i think best option is to tell them christmas day

cheers

Ski.

If you really have to work for the whole of Christmas you should definatly let the kids know why. Hopefully it will take some of the sting away.

I'd be tempted to let the kids know on Christmas day.
I'm sure you will all have a great time :goodvibes

Hi Ski and welcome to the DIS! :welcome:

I'd tell them on Christmas Day too. Can't think of a better Christmas pressie!:goodvibes

Hope being apart on the day won't be too difficult for any of you :grouphug: but just think of the fun you will all have when it's time to go away! :Pinkbounc

I think I would be inclined to tell them xmas eve before you are not there for the 25th. Children are better if they are well informed and going into the 25th with this knowledge might be easier.

I think that is a very good idea

Telling them on Christmas Eve is a lovely idea as they are both old enough to realise this is why you are working. They are very lucky kids and I am sure they will appreciate that :thumbsup2

With the amount of gifts children get these days it will be New years eve before they even notice you've been at work! :rotfl2:

When everybody else is feeling fed up and blue in Januray - you'll have your fab holiday to look forward to and then - lets face it - you'll be the BEST mum in the world!

Have fun telling them and if you have a camcorder get them to make a mini Christmas movie for you - it will keep them entertained and you can then share their christmas when you eventually get home

Hope this helps
Janet

I've a 7 and 12 year old too and if yours are anything like mine, Christmas lists consist of Nintendo DS games, Ps2 games, PC games - so after DH and I have cleared away the wrapping paper and fed them we'll be obsolete for the rest of the day, they haven't even got anything that needs putting together this year.
Blimey, just realised we might get a bit of time to ourselves. :)
If it was me I'd tell them Christmas Eve, I'm sure that given their ages they'll understand, can you get hold of a park book or dvd, or sort out some websites to have a look at together when you get home and like Janet said January is always a bit flat after all the Christmas excitement, but you'll still have your hols to look forward to.
Whatever you decide I'm sure you'll adore DLRP. :goodvibes

some great advise there ! thank you every one.

Janet i think the idea about the kids making a mini movie for me with the camcorder is a excellent idea so i can watch it when i get back christmas night.

christmas day will tell the kids about holiday - think when i get back.

thanks again every one

I agree with all the posts before.

You are a great Mum to do this for your family. :goodvibes

January is such a dull month and you are going to make it so special and the DLH is just perfect.

I'm sure they will really appreciate it.

If you start work on the 23rd, maybe you could have a special Xmas meal together on the 22nd and give each other one small pressie then too. Also, if everyone's feeling v low, you could even tell them then.

You know, if I think back to when I was 7 - 12 yrs old, I can't remember individual Christmas days, just the odd highlight, and the odd special present. But I remember very clearly every single holiday that we went on. Obviously I didnt go to DLP as a child, but I know that if I had, it would be engraved on my memory now, and throughout my life. I think that DLP creates absolutely magical memories for families to treasure, and I absolutely think you've made the right decision. Agree with other posters though that you should tell them at Christmas, not leave it as a surprise until you go.
