Missing child alert! UPDATE: Page 3

Several of my girlfriends are in Portland, Hillsboro and surrounding areas, I heard about this over the weekend via FaceBook and my Auntie who lives in N. Portland and oddly enough along with my Mother attended Skyline Elem. way way back when.

That area is very remote, woodsy etc.

Something just does not smell right with this story, I can't even put my finger on what, but is smells bad. I hope and pray they find him safe and sound.

I thought this might be something everyone would want to know about. I am just questioning why an Amber Alert was not called out.

They only issue Amber Alerts when there is confirmation of an abduction. Right now they just don't know if that is the case.

As shy as the family says he is, it seems like it would make sense that he went with someone that he knew. Our schools out here have video cameras all over the campuses. I haven't heard anything about video cameras at this school. Also, why wasn't there an automated system set up to call parents when students are absent and a parent hasn't called in to excuse the child? I see some big-time liability with the school district.

I hope and pray that he is okay!

I just can't believe a child could go missing from his/her own school. We have so many safety precations in place that I have often found them annoying, but after this story I'm so glad our school has them. I just don't get how this could even happen, it is so heartbreaking, I hope he is found safe and sound.

This is so sad but the way it reads is that the stepmom was not the last person to see him alive since is says she left at 8:45 and he was last seen at 9. Plus if he was at the fair then she wouldn't have had to sign him in. On top of that WHY did the school not call????? Something does not smell right at all! :sad1:

Stories like this are so sad and SCARY!! I tend to think of school as a safe place. So scary and worrisome to think it's NOT!

Keep in mind though, this is one of the smallest schools in the district with only about 400 kids. There are cameras in the high schools and some in the middle schools but none in any of the elementary schools. And there is the automated system in place that calls home for absent kids but it's only at some of the schools, definitely not at the smaller schools... yet. I assume that this will change very soon.

This thread has been an eye opener to me as we don't have children and we are in our 40's. I had absolutely no idea that schools have such procedures in place for being absent, or video cameras, or having to check your child in and so on.

I guess gone are the days of me waiting outside for the bus by myself, riding the bus to school, and walking into the building & going to class.

Just had no idea. :guilty:

Our school system is VERY large. We do get an automated phone call when the kids are absent, but it does not come until the evening. Often it is 5 or 6 before I get that call. We always think it is funny when my DS12 has been in school all day, but his homeroom teacher marks him absent by mistake, because we get the call.

Praying that they find him safe.

This is how our school system is also. We get the call around 6pm reminding us our kid was absent and to send an absent note in. A few years ago we had a group of volunteers that made phone calls when any kids were absent. It was called safe to school. If you agreed to participate you agreed to call in by 9:30am to say your child would be absent. If you didn't and your child was absent us volunteers would make phone calls. This died out about 4 years ago when the person running it decided not to anymore and no one else stepped up.

My heart breaks for this little boy. I pray they find him soon!!!!

My girls school is a large school. But we still do it the old way.We call every child who wasn't called out. (I work in the school) the lady who does the calling has to call all teh numbers giving on the sheet. If she doesn't get anybody on any number she reports it to the Principle. This is all done before 930am.

This Case is taking more turns. A
Restraining Order was granted.

PORTLAND -- The father of missing Portland boy Kyron Horman has filed for divorce, obtained a restraining order against his wife and moved out of the family home with their young daughter.

The restraining order was sealed by Multnomah County Circuit Judge Keith Meisenheimer, who handles family law. However, the abuse prevent petition showed that Terri Moulton-Horman was granted no parenting time and restricted from accessing firearms. The no firearms clause was routine in such cases, a court clerk said. Kaine Horman was granted sole child custody, although no children were specifically named in the documents.

Kaine had moved out of the home with their 18-month-old daughter, Kiara last Saturday. Then, on Monday, he filed divorce papers and a restraining order in Multnomah County Circuit Court. The divorce papers list "irreconcilable differences" and a "breakdown of marriage" as the reason he left her.

Early Monday, Terri Horman denied to KGW that Kaine had moved out of the home they shared in Northwest Portland. She also said she knew nothing of a statement getting released by Kaine, along with his ex-wife Desiree Young and her husband, Tony Young.

The statement, released late Monday, read in part: "Any actions taken by the investigation, or by us, are based on the best interests of Kyron and Kiara and comply with the law. Beyond this, we have no comment on the matter." It was signed by Kyron's father, step-father and mother, but not Terri, Kyron's step-mother.

The statement also said that the trio was in support of the investigation. So far, the investigation included several searches of the Horman home, at least two polygraph tests for Terri and many hours of police questioning, among other things.

Step-mom a focus of investigation

In addition to this update in the case, Kyron's photo was on the cover of 'People' for the second week in a row and the story that went with it focused on the attention that has been placed on Terri.

Terri's father, Larry Moulton, 72, told 'People' matter-of-factly that "the finger points at step-mom, she's trying to be cooperative."

He, too said she has had two polygraphs, that police have taken her truck twice and questioned her several times, for up to six hours. He also described his daughter as "really good with kids" and pointed to a Halloween outing to pumpkin patches with the family in costume.

Since Kyron vanished three weeks ago, police singled her out in a questionnaire sent to parents and staff of Skyline school. A lifelong friend described Terri's unhappiness with the second polygraph test.

Parents grant TV interview

The People magazine cover story comes right after Kyron's mother and father sat down with KGW and answered some of the most commonly-asked questions, including why investigators had focused on Sauvie Island. However, Kyron's parents would not answer questions about Terri Moulton being given lie detector tests, and they said she would not be speaking to the media.

Questionnaire singled out Terri Moulton

Police scoured scores of questionnaires turned in by parents of Skyline Elementary School children, staff members and even delivery drivers for new clues last week as they tried to untangle the mystery of Kyron's disappearance.

The questionnaires contained several questions that were intended to help trigger people's memories about the day that the seven-year-old disappeared.

Among the questions were: "Did your child see Kyron's step-mom, Terri on 6/4/10, at or near the school?" and "Did your child see a white Ford F250 pickup truck on 6/4/10 at or near the school?" Terri Horman, Kyron's step-mother, was driving the white truck on the day he disappeared. The questionnaire also showed photos of Terri and the truck.

Capt. Jason Gates said during a press conference that the photos and questions were an effort to "jog people's memory" in the case, since Terri was the last person who spent time with Kyron.

Gates added that the family was in full support of the decision to circulate the new questionnaire Friday. He read a family statement that said, “Any parent would understand the grief that this causes our family… please know that we fully support the release of this flier and we want Kyron home and we hope that this will do that."

KGW has learned that police over the weekend also asked Terri to take a second lie detector tests as part of the investigation.

A close friend of Terri's told KGW she is a wonderful mother who's known Kyron since he was three days old. She said the extra scrutiny has taken an emotional toll on her.

Gates refused to comment about any possible suspects or "persons of interest" in the case.

The other questions on the form were more generic in nature, including “Did your child see Kyron on 6/4/10?” and “Where did your child see Kyron?”

Case gets national attention

The biological mother of missing seven-year-old Kyron Horman reached out with an emotional letter to her son, hoping and praying that he would return home and read it soon. Desiree Young shared the letter with NBC's 'Today Show' as part of their ongoing coverage of the missing boy case.

Last week's issue of 'People' shows a photo of Kyron on the cover and features an article about his case. In addition, 30 billboards were going up across Oregon with Kyron's photo and tipline. Police were hoping the extra attention will bring even more tips and clues for them to follow up on.

A Portland woman wants Kyron's case to spark changes across the nation as well. Emmelie Caterham was circulating a petition to get security cameras installed in all schools.

Police recently created and circulated photos of Kyron without his glasses. The hope was that it would help people see what Kyron would look like if he was no longer wearing them. They also previously shared photos of Kyron's glasses and replicas of the clothing he was wearing when he disappeared.

While strangers continued to try and reach out in any way possible, police warned that scammers were targeting some people by asking for donations to a bogus support fund. Anyone approached in person or over the phone for donations should first check with police to determine if they're legitimate.

Meantime, investigators had intensified their search in the area of Sauvie Island. From KGW's Sky 8 helicopter, searchers in wetsuits were seen moving through waist-high water while someone on shore provided directions. A dive team searched swamps and ponds around the rural NW Portland area, and crews also searched around the Multnomah Channel. Investigators would not say what led them to this area, but it was the fourth consecutive days that crews scoured Sauvie Island.

“This will not become a cold case for us,” Capt. Jason Gates promised during Monday morning's press conference.

$25,000 reward offered

An emotional Sheriff Dan Staton announced a $25,000 reward for any information that leads to the location of Kyron.

Investigators also asked anyone with photos or videos created on June 3 or June 4 of roads around Skyline school to provide them to police. Video of specific locations was being sought.

Family talks about Kyron

Kyron's parents and step-parents answered personal questions about him via Multnomah County Sheriff's Capt. Mike Shults during a previous media briefing and also explained some of their outings - to stores and a health club.

Shults said that the family was extremely stressed out, but understood that the public might have wanted to learn more about Kyron. To that end, they answered a set of prepared questions and described the boy's bubbly personality.

The morning he disappeared, Kyron was in good spirits, excited about the tree frog diorama he had created for the science fair, Shults said.

Family reached out to Kyron

On June 11, the family appeared for the first since since Kyron disappeared one week earlier, and made an emotional plea for help.

"Please help us bring Kyron home," Kaine Horman, the boy's father said.

"The community as a whole have shown how much impact one little boy’s smile can have on a community,” said Kyron’s step-father, Tony Young. Then, he spoke directly to Kyron: “You mean everything to us and until you come home, this family is not complete. We believe in you and know you will be back with us soon.”

After Young spoke, the two men embraced while their wives comforted each other in the background.

Kyron's outfit on display

Just one hour earlier, police revealed a replica of the clothing Kyron Horman was wearing when he disappeared. Police hoped that this new information would help create more leads to assist them in their effort to locate the missing boy.

Police said Horman was wearing a black CSI T-shirt, dark cargo-style pants, Hanes athletic socks and well-worn Skechers sneakers.

Kyron missing since June 4

Kyron and his step-mother, Terri Moulton Horman, arrived at Skyline Elementary School around 8 a.m. Friday and attended a science fair at the school. Around 8:45 a.m. Terri said goodbye to Kyron and watched the second-grader walk down the hallway toward his classroom. Police say that the last time the boy was seen was about 9 a.m. Investigators have not revealed who saw Kyron last, or whether he attended his first class.

Timeline: Search for Kyron Horman

At 3:45 p.m., when the school bus arrived at Kyron's stop without him on board, his step-mom called the school. She was told he was marked "absent" by his teacher. She called 9-1-1 just before 4 p.m. and the search effort was launched.

Portland schools sent an automated message to parents in the school district that the boy was missing. Meanwhile, police walked the school grounds with K-9 tracking teams, searched every room and closet inside the school and even checked the roof.

Parent Gina Zimmerman said she last saw Kyron in the morning, when he posed in a classroom in front of his "red-eyed tree frog" science project. She said her daughter is one of Kyron’s best friends and she knew him well.

Zimmerman said that Kyron was not the type of child to wander off. "He knows 'stranger danger," she said. "He's a really good kid."

This case is so bizarre and sad. I wonder what the cops know that they aren't saying. I live right by my kids school and am in and out of there often. I can't imagine that noone saw the step-mon or Kyron leaving the school. Poor little guy:sad1:

When I first heard about this, I automatically assumed the step-mother had something to do with it. But why would she take a picture of him at the science fair? And they say someone last saw him at 9am but they aren't saying who-why?

Alibi?:confused3 I don't know what to think. I don't want to think that the step-mother did something but it's just very strange.

this case is just crazy. something is up if he filed for divorce and got a restraining order. LE had to let him in on something.

This is indeed a VERY strange situation. I've been praying like crazy that they're able to find Kyron alive and well... but as time goes on it's hard to think that it's likely :guilty:

very strange. My first thought was the stepmother but then didn't somebody see them at the school that morning?

she did take a pic of him at the school science fair - and if she DID do something to him, then having that pic taken would be genius!! She could say.."see, I did take him to the Science Fair and here's a pic to prove it..I didnt do anytihng to him"....now, go and find whoever did take him..

It could be part of her cover up story..

but I honestly have no idea if she is involved or not..but its a sad story and a bad situation..
