Miss B's Magical Wish Trip Adventure to Atlantica

I am checking in on a few friends as I wait for the HVAC contrator...It is too hot to do a lot, :lmao: (That is my excuse, good reason to DIS)! Praying everyone is happy, healthy and Disney Dreaming at your house! :goodvibes:goodvibes

Thanks, Judy! All is well here and dreams are coming true!

It has been a few days since I've been on the boards to update. Hope everyone had a lovely Father's Day weekend and that all the dads on here were treated extra special!

It has been quite busy lately--lots of family visits and appointments this past week. And, we have another one tonight. Brooke has a rash on her belly that doesn't seem to want to go away, so I'm taking her in tonight to have it looked at. Looks like a patch of dermatitis, but we'll see. Hope it's nothing more than that!

As for the Teddy Bear picnic video--we had a link to it and the video wasn't working the first day, but then it was working later in the week and friends and family kept commenting on my FB page about it, but now the video isn't even on the website anymore. :confused3 Perhaps they've had some technical difficulties and have pulled it in an effort to fix the glitch. I'll keep checking it out and if it goes back up, I'll post it here. Turns out I didn't sound nearly as horrible as I thought I did. It almost looked like I knew what I was talking about. My hubby sounded like a pro--totally comfortable in front of the camera. Ah well!

No real Disney trip update lately. We're just waiting to hear when the official wish reveal will take place.

Pascal and I have made a tentative itinerary of the week. There's just so much we want to do and we don't want to miss out on any of the great GKTW activities either, but realistically--we have six parks to fit into 7 days, which is near impossible. We know we'll be pressed for time, so we're making a "must-do" list, as well as a "would be nice" list.

I called and confirmed all of our dinner and BBB reservations--and now, I'm wondering what to do next? I should probably contact our MAW co-ordinator about trip specifics (crib for Avery, stroller for the girls, etc.), but I wonder if it's too early for all that? She might not even have made these arrangements yet. Any suggestions as to what else to plan in the meantime? I feel like I have to accomplish something!

Hey, hey! Just noticed my DISboards title is now 'DIS Veteran.' I find that amusing, as I've only been to Disney World once before! I'm so far removed from veteran, it's ridiculous. Guess, I just comment way too much.... :)

Hello!! I have been away for a bit but see that we will be in Disney around the same time!! How cool is that???!!?>?

I am hoping that like me you are busy with summer!

Robin...I miss you! I hope all is well!!!

Thanks for checking, Judy! Yes, all is well. Just crazy busy here--last weekend was insanely busy with the holiday, and then this week wasn't any better! Just super busy at the office (plus, our whole section is moving offices and floors, so we had to all pack up our things and get them in boxes), my hubby has been across the country (in Saskatchewan) for business all week and I have been busy at home trying to get the house cleaned, laundry sorted and whatnot in prep for a cottage week we are leaving for tomorrow.

So sorry to have been absent these past two weeks! I will hopefully get some downtime on holiday to check back and get caught up with everyone! Hope you are well!

Aren't you sweet! Thank you!!

Yes, isn't that awesome!! We are just so excited over here---summer feels like it has finally arrived and here we are and feeling like--can it get to fall, already?!?! Maybe we'll be able to meet at GKTW or something. :)

Yup--just summer craziness--too busy to sit down and DIS the last few days it seems. Hoping for some downtime this coming week while we are on vacay....

Hope all is well with you and the kiddos!

Wow cant beleive i havent subscribed your thread already i really thought i had, we are going september 12-18 i think your going close to ours maybe we can meet :)

I don't think anyone has answered your question about the Barber Shop...
Most people just walk in, but they started taking reservations last year.
From the wdwinfo part of this site: Call 407-WDW-DINE and ask for Childrens' Activities. No same-day reservations accepted. Walk-ups are still accepted on an as-available basis.
I think the first haircut is still $18, includes the mouse ears.
You could also get the pixie dust only treatment for Brooke. They do boys or girls for about $5. They have spray-on hair color - I've seen a lot of boys get that. They also will do just spraying a lot of hair spray and sprinkling glitter all over. My DD has had that.

I've enjoyed hearing about your story so far. Looking forward to the next update!

:wave2:

It took me a bit, but I caught up and read your thread!

I have an Ariel fan in my house too, she will turn 7 on our trip in October, so I will be anxious to hear any tips you have! :cool2:

I've got reservations for my 3 girls to go to BBB too, my wish girl hair I suspect will be about 4 inches long....did you get any response on the big BBB?

your PTR is fun to read with all the fab pictures!! Thank you very much for sharing!!!

Your girls are beautiful :lovestruc I have an Ariel fan, too! Love the PTR so far and I will be following along now :thumbsup2

Yes, we'll be there from September 8 to the 16th! Wouldn't that be nice?

Thanks for the info on the Barber shop! I will definitely stop in for a cut for Avie! She needs one, but I'm waiting until September, so for now, it's hair elastics and barrettes to keep those locks off her neck and out of her eyes!

Thanks for tuning in! (And the nice comments about the pics. :)

I'll definitely update with info on Ariel and BBB for short hair! Brooke's hair is getting long. Really, she should have a little trim to help it grow faster but she won't let me. She really wants it long enough to put in pony tails again. It'll probably be about the same length as your daughter's hair. Just long enough to put in teeny tiny elastics, but definitely not a bun! The BBB people seemed to suggest that the fairy godmothers will do a great job even on short hair, as they have seen bald and post-chemo kids before. Not sure if they will do something different with her hair or let her choose a wig or something, but we'll see!

:wave2: Just stopping in to say HI :goodvibes

Hi right back to you!!! :) It's been awhile!

Your girls are beautiful :lovestruc I have an Ariel fan, too! Love the PTR so far and I will be following along now :thumbsup2

Oh, thank you! Thanks for taking the time to join us on our little Ariel-esque journey! :)

So, I know I promised to get caught up on all of the PTRs and photos and threads this past week, but I completely flaked on it. I was on vacay and I didn't even look at my computer all week, which was a welcome relief I must admit!

The last three weeks have been insane here. My husband was out of town for business for one week and the other week he was so busy with meetings and hockey games and helping his father put on a new roof that we barely saw them at all! And, of course, this all happened just before we were set to go away for a week to a lovely cottage in the Muskokas.

So, I was single-parenting it for a bit there--LOL!!--and dealing with some new stresses at work. Nothing really bothersome, just busy with a new boss, a new office and our entire section moving to a completely different floor in our office building. It was chaotic at work, crazy at home and I was just wiped by the time the girls were in bed, so no DIS (or America's Got Talent!:rolleyes1) for me. But, I'm back now--refreshed, re-energized and ready to get back at it!

(I should actually be tackling a new article at work at the moment, but I've spent all morning catching up on work and personal e-mails and I just wanted to finish off my to-do list before settling down to work.)

Anyways, a little update about the wish trip. We had an email from Anne, our wish rep, this week while we were away. She gave us the list of confirmed plans to date and asked us to check on a few things (insurance coverage for rental cars and which stroller we would like to rent). Now, her focus is on putting together the Wish Day delivery (which I presume is the formal presentation that many of you have already described?). We've given her a number of dates, but she hasn't exactly told us what she has in mind yet.

I know some people have just had a little 'party' at home, while others have gone to bowling alleys or restaurants for their little celebrations. No clue yet, what Anne has planned. Hopefully, more details coming soon!

I need some opinions about double strollers!

I had inquired with MAW about getting a double stroller that reclines, since our two girls are both toddlers and can tire easily. I especially wanted one that reclines, because my 15 month old still requires naps and I'm hoping (keeping fingers crossed!) that she'll be able to nap in stroller. My daughter's wish grantor said it would be no problem to rent us one and would like me to pick a stroller from Orlando Stroller Rentals (http://www.orlandostrollerrentals.com/). Two of the three double strollers listed on the website seem to recline, and they all offer nice little canopies to keep the girls out of the shade. They all look great.

Before I make my choice, however, I'm just wondering if double strollers are too big for the parks? Will we be able to fit them on the monorails, in ride queues or stroller parking spaces? Would I be better off renting two single strollers instead? What's more cumbersome?

Opinions wanted and welcome! Thanks!

Ha! Have to share this with you folks.

Months ago, our hospital set Brooke up as a Starlight Foundation of Canada child--it's a similar organization to Make-a-Wish, except the focus is mainly on making hospital stays more enjoyable (providing video game consoles and entertainers to hospital-bound kids), as well as providing fun activities outside the hospital setting for Starlight families to take part in (such as movie premiers, tickets to the circus, art studio excursions, pumpkin patch days, etc.). Anyways, we've participated in a few activities so far and they've been great, but each year, the Starlight folks ask all of the families to join them in their largest fundraiser--the Walk for Smiles in September.

Of course, we are participating--we've raised $375 so far! Wahoo!--and when the organizer asked whether or not we would be willing to participate in any interviews, I said sure.

Fast forward to last week.

Last weekend, there was a charity volleyball event taking place in town and, for the first time, Starlight was going to benefit from it. A reporter from our local newspaper had contacted Chris (our Starlight organizer) to interview him and then asked if there were any families willing to give a 'family' perspective on Starlight. He called us and asked if we were still good for an interview. We were out of town, but said sure. Why not?

So, the journalist called me and we chatted for a few minutes. Now, as a reporter byself (Well, I guess I can call myself that! I write, edit and photograph for an electronic employee newsletter.), I insist on taking meticulous notes when it comes to quoting someone. And, I always double-check things I don't understand. That said, I made sure to repeat myself twice about Brooke's illness and even explained what Wilm's Tumour was. And, this is what we got: Hope VolleyBall Gives Hope to Charities

See if you can find the misquote. I'll help you out--it's in the first sentence!

LOL!! We laughed when we read that. Apparently, the journalist misquoted Chris several times, as well. Ah well--the sentiment is the same. Just thought I would share.

I think the Citi Mini Double would be great it folds up rather quick and flat though wide. Also the sun canopy is really nice on the Baby Joggers.

I own a Citi Mini Single and a City Elite which I use more often because the handle adjusts and I can steer the Elite with one finger.

Thanks for the info! I've never used a double before (or a Baby Jogger) so, I don't know how easy/difficult they are to get around. Any advice will definitely help me make a decision.
