I wasn't sure where to put these questions, so I figured this was as good a spot as any!

1) Dumb question re: the bodyglide and moleskin, since I am very prone to blisters. How do I use these products? Are they for PREVENTING the blisters or for treating them?

2) If we want to ride in the front of the monorail, do we just ask when we board? How many people can sit up there? There are 4 adults in our group plus 2 toddlers

3) How much are the lanyards and pins for pin trading? DD is 4 and I thought I might start her on this, but not if it is going to be really, really costly.

Thanks for any insight you can offer!

1- Never has blisters at WDW so I haven't used any of these products. From the post I have read they are a must for those with tender feet

2- Monorail only seats 4 people and driver period. IF you want to ride up front ask the first CM you meet at the boarding station. They will direct you to the special holding area to wait for the up front ride. It is the coolest place to ride is upfront. You want to try to time the ride where you will have the longest time in the driver area. The ride from Epcot to the Magic Kingdom is nice and long. The reverse of this trip takes you into Epcot to circle back to the station. A better ride although I have not done this one.

3- Pin trading can be expensive if you get hooked on pins. The first year our boys thought pin trading was very cool. We bought several pins and traded several times. The cost of the lanyard and 4 pins to start trading is not bad maybe $20 bucks. ITs when you want to add more to the lanyard it gets into your pocket book. Just know what your limits are and stick to them

4- Remember to have fun and absorb the atmosphere that makes Disney Magic

Moleskin is something that you can cut to fit any spots that are starting to get tender on your feet before you get a blister. It sticks all by itself and stays on way better than a bandaid.:thumbsup2

Bodyglide is a solid (think really thick solid antiperserant) that you use to prevent chaffing.

Yeah, unless you go to Sea World and sit in the soak zone at Shamu Stadium. I tried moleskin last vacation and went to Sea World. One splash from Shamu and all my moleskin fell off. :( I am band-aid fan and that confirmed it. :thumbsup2

1) Bodyglide: You rub it on (like a deodorant) on places that might rub...like your heels and little toes.
2) Monorail: Like others have said, only 4 can go up front. It may be lost on the toddlers. It is sometimes tough to get in as people can already be in there from the stop before yours. Go during the day and ask at a major stop.

3) Consider buying real disney pins that you think she won't like from ebay. They are cheaper and she can trade for ones she likes. They have to be real Disney pins or the cast member's won't trade.

On the band aid vs moleskin debate: I am a HUGE fan of band aid advanced blister relief bandages. I used some of those on my last trip to DL when I started to get blisters on the back of my heels. Those bandages stopped the pain and helped me to avoid nasty scarring/healing time. By the time I took the band aid off (you are supposed to keep it for a couple days), the blisters had healed completely and I had no nasty heels.

I'd also recommend you do that. You can get really really cheap pins on ebay. Also, there might be pins in the booster set you buy that she will not like and you can use those to trade. I know I have some villians pins like that.

Thanks everyone. I guess we'll try for the monorail, but won't get our hopes up. DD is 4 and I think she'd really like it. Also, it is MIL/FIL first time at DW, so I'm sure they'd enjoy it as well.

I am so worried about blisters. It seems no matter what shoes I wear, I end up with a blister somewhere. I am going to purchase ALL of these products - thanks!

I'm not sure if the pin trading might be too much for DD 4? Perhaps we should wait until next year? She's never done the autograph book - maybe that would be better.

Thanks for your help!

I wear New Balance sneakers and after walking all day in WDW, I always get blisters on both of my little toes. Now I use Body Glide and avoid blisters altogether. I rub it over the areas where I usually have a problem. I also carry it in my bag so if a hot spot occurs, I rub it there as well. I love it!

Have your DH or somebody quietly ask about being in the front of the monorail out of hearing of DD so she will never be disappointed since she won't know it is a possibility.

If you are planning to go to Disney again, then if she likes the characters, then I would do the autograph book and wait on pins. If she is scared of the characters, then maybe do pin trading. But always remember...she is only 4! You know about all these cool things you can do, but she is not missing out on anything if you don't do them all this trip! Just seeing some princesses will make her day, I bet.

You can buy "starter pin sets" from any Disney pin kiosk/store, they have a lanyard and then a few of the same pins. Alternately you can buy lots (lots as in a group) of Disney pins off ebay for a more cost effective set of pins to trade away. The problem with 4 year olds is they may like the pins they start off with!

Just wanted to add that if you do start pin trading, invest in some locking pin-backs. The regular backs seem to come off easy in my opinion. My kids are 3,4 &5 and went bananas over the penny presses. They had a few pins on a lanyard, but would look for the penny presses anywhere...and prices start at $0.51..happy travels.

Where do you buy Bodyglide - which department and is it available in Canada?

I got mine at Dick's Sporting Goods, it was in the athletics area (football, volleyball, etc.). I had a hard time finding it and had to ask - it looks like a solid deodorant and is packaged on a card and hanging up.

Eastern Mountain sports, or also I got it at a Running Store (a store that specializes in running shoes).

Moleskin is my material of choice but while out hiking in Vermont one summer with experienced tour guides, I was told about duct tape. Apparently serious hikers wrap their feet in this stuff all the time mostly because it stays on through just about anything. Haven't tried this, just passing it along.

It's made in colors now, even neons, so one can always coordinate with the outfit of the day!

Re: Pin trading: Also keep in mind that you don't need to buy the "official" lanyard; lots of places have versions that are cheaper and sometimes you receive one free with various promotions. But I'd second your idea to go with the autograph book, if you think she won't be scared of the characters. (Btw, if you do think she'll be scared, do a character breakfast, where they come to her. Much more low-key and a good introduction, I think.)

Overall, though, I agree that you don't need to do ANY of these things for DD; she'll have enough to see or do without collecting things.

A couple of things you might want to collect at your local dollar store before going, though, that she might like....glow-in-the-dark necklaces(esp. fun if you'll see parades at night); Disney stickers (I'm sure she'll get a lot, but still...); and a water/misty fan if you're going at a warm time of year.

As for your fear of blisters--I get them all the time. I love moleskin! Have you thought of getting running socks, double-layered and non-cotton? They'll help you avoid blisters.
