mis-information about pools and refillable mugs

Now this makes sense. I have a co-worker who met her daughter (who is in the military) at Disney in May. Because she knew I was a Disney nut she asked me a thousand questions (it was her first visit since the early 80's). One of those questions was about pool hopping. I of course told her it was not allowed. Well, she went and told me that pool hopping was allowed and they indeed pool hopped. She said she asked one of her resort CM's (they stayed at Shades of Green) - that told her its now encouraged. My co-worker was told that it allows guest to 'see' other resorts. This is a 'perk' for onsite guest. She said it makes you think about paying 'more' for different resort on your next visit. At first I didn't believe her, and I even thought of posting a thread about it, but declined. Now, I'm sorry I didn't believe her. It makes sense to me. What better way to allow guest to see around the WDW Resorts and allow them to pool hop and then say, "I'm staying here next visit". She did say it was two resorts she couldn't hop at, but she couldn't remember the name of resorts.

The refillable mugs usage was clear when I saw the NEW generic mugs. Why would one go to another resort - just to get a soda? I can see both pool hopping and mugs as a new perk! I know the pool hopping is a perk for the DVC members, and has been for a while.

The policy has not changed, resort pools are for the exclusive guests of that resort and that info is still posted at all pools and all resort printed materials.

Guests are welcome to tour the resort to see it and shop and dine, they are not allowed to use the pool. Guests do not have to use the pool to determine if they like the pool or the resort. That would be like saying, "I can't detemine if I want to stay there unless I test the beds." So just as bed hopping is not allowed, near is pool hopping.

The CM that told your friend this was wrong.

There are safety issues and courtesy issues at play here. There is simply not enough room for the guests staying there much less anyone additional.

Here is the Pool sign at POFQ showing the rules and they have these signs at all resort.

I just spoke with Shades of Green, they apologized over and over for any misinformation that any of their CMs might have shared, and clarified that No, you can not use the other Disney pools nor can someone staying elsewhere use the Shades of Green pool.

So the policy has not changed.

I had a feeling the Cast Member was wrong that guests can pool hop at all their Resorts and they must have been referring to guests being allowed to use pools at sister Resorts. Those Resorts being All Star Sports, Movies and Music, Port Orleans Riverside, Port Orleans French Quater and finally the Yacht and Beach Club Resorts.

I am against pool hopping as well. We are shelling out the buck to stay at the Poly so we can use the pool as one of the perks. However, when I called a few months back and spoke to a CM at reservations he worked there for years knew everything I asked and did say that people may swim at any DR while staying there. :(

Mugs I don't give a rip about, pools is slightly different.

What incentive would there be to stay at a higher end resort if you can just use all their ammenties? Not very many.

I honestly wouldn't mind a pool hopping, say all values and hop to other values, all moderates to other moderates and all deluxes to other deluxes, but that is about it.

But to be honest I don't really worry much about pool hopping, as DVC we are allowed to during certain times of the year with the exception of 2 pools and I have never done it. Seems like a hassle.

Since the pools at the Polynesian seem to be the 2nd most popular ones to pool hop at, why don't they enforce the same rules they have when guests at the Yacht & Beach Club enter SAB?

The policy in the 1970's was that you were encouraged to visit other resorts and that you could use the pool. As a child I often stayed at Fort Wilderness and it was definitely ok to use the pool at the Poly or the Contempory. Of course at that time, the ONLY resorts were, Fort Wilderness, Poly, and Contemporary. Anybody else remember this?

When I was in high school in the mid eighties, we stayed at the Golf Resort, but always swam at the Poly. In those days, there was only MK and Epcot, so we spentalot of time at the resorts. We often spent the day at the Poly riding the water mice, and swimming at the pool and :scared1: in the lagoon.

Perhaps the bus was talking about DVC?? That is a perk, if you are a DVC member, you can pool hop to other resorts. (Except the Beach Club & Animal Kingdom Lodge.)

Why is this such a 'touchy' subject for some of you? One could argue its the rules - but some rules change - right! If a person is unsure of a policy one would usually ask. Who will they ask - a CM. If a CM says it is okay, who else are we suppose to listen to? :confused3 I just don't 'get' this being a 'touchy' subject. I've had my 2 cents in threads that turned so silly over refillable cups, buying them on ebay, etc. - I just don't get why this is so 'touchy' for some of you. If a CM says its okay - what are we suppose to do, tell them they are wrong and they don't know their jobs. Should we tell the CM to police the pools and soda fountain - because we are disboards certified and we know ALL the Disney answers? Seriously. I'm confused:confused3 - should we follow rules - YES - no wiggle room. Do rules change - Yes - no wiggle room. Did the pool hopping rule change - lots of wiggle room - some CM's say yes, others say - NO. FYI, I saw the sign listed in someones post - how up to date is that picture. I see its from allearsnet.com - that could have been taken years - or months ago. This rule could have changed since them. The question was asked in 2005 and the picture appears to be posted then.

BTW, I could care less about pool hopping. IMO, it takes too much to pool hop without a rental car. I don't even swim while in WDW. If my DD is lucky I'll let her go to a pool for an half an hour. Now, I could be 100% wrong on the subject of pool hopping - I'm okay with that - such is life, but some of you - could be wrong as well - such is life. It's not that deep.

You hit the nail on the head!:rotfl: popcorn:: :surfweb:

Why is this such a 'touchy' subject for some of you? /QUOTE]

Pretty basic reason actually-because I paid for the amenities at the resort I stay at and I don't expect people who didn't to be using them at my expense if it is against policy.

The signs at the pools are the same as the photo. They have not changed.

The material listed at check in is current, it has not changed.

Policy has not changed and I called SOG today to verify that. They apologized for the wrong info.

So yes your friend might have a reason to be confused to the policy due to what she was told, but we have cleared that all up that, policy is the same,

No Pool Hopping.

I think sometimes guest hear what they want to hear to the rule. ;)

Allison and Sammie,
Both your reasons should speak for themselves because the information about the pool rules has not changed and I agree that if we paid to stay somewere like the Polynesian, it is not unreasonable to only want other Polynesian guests there and no pool hoppers, unless they were DVC members who were allowed to swim there.

Okay - basic as it is, why would it bother you if a CM (be it a rule, fuzzy, or cleared from a CM at that resort) - okayed a family to swim at a resort.

For the reason I stated in my original post.

And even more so because I have heard about so much information that is wrong coming from CM's such as AKL has no rooms that accomodate 5 guests or that you can use a day off your non-park hopping tickets to park hop. It's not CM's allowing people to do something, it's CM's giving the wrong information.

That was very well said. :thumbsup2
