Anyone use this IUD/IUC? What side effects have you experienced? How much does it cost? Thanks. :thumbsup2

I've had one for about 2 years now and I love it. I am one of the lucky ones who does not have a period with the Mirena. I have no side effects from it.

Insurance didn't cover mine, so it was about $400, IIRC.

That sound wonderful. $400 isn't bad considering is lasts 5 years.

no side effects, no period, no cost:thumbsup2

My girlfriend has it also. We do not have insurance and the cost for the doctor to do it was about $400 but the actual IUD was given to us (long story). That being said she looking back now, wishes someone had taken her to have it done because she had sever cramping afterward and for about 2 days later. She still has some spot bleeding occasionally and mild (very mild )cramping. I asked her if she would do it again and she said yes.

The Dr. did say hers might be a little different experience because she has never had a child. So the actual insertion was a little more difficult.

Yeah, I heard it was easier if you've had a child.

I've been considering it. I'm sick of the pill.

I can no think of the name of the one that I have. It is copper & has no hormones. I got I little lightheaded after they put it in. I cramped a little after & then the next day it was worst & I got a headache & thought I was going to throw up but did not. (that came very suddenly & out of nowhere) My periods are about 7 days, used to be 3:sad2: My cost was around 700. When I added in a pap smear. I did it 6 months after my yearly so I had to go in & have another one.

I don't have kids either :scared1:

That is right! I am foloowing you around today it seems!lol

I wouldn't let the fact that you have not had children make or break your decision. From what I could tell her cramping was no worse that mine was when I was in high school (for me the older I get the easier it gets?) Any way she said it did really hurt when it was (for lack of a better word) stuck up there. She has had it now for about 7 months and like I said only minor situations, nothing like before!

But she didn't get this done for a form of birth control. She did it only to stop the periods which for the most part but not fully have stopped.
I do not know if that helps or not.

My best friend had one inserted and had to have it removed as she couldn't handle the hormones. If you don't like the pill because of the hormonal side effects, check out the Paragard instead. It's copper, lasts twice as long and contains no hormones.

Docs seem to be promoting the Mirena much more than the Paragard, tho. I had to really badger my doc about it before he even acknowledged it existed.

I guess I will just have to ask my doctor about it. (nooooo anything but that! :lmao: ) The Mirena website makes it sound like it's not available unless you have given birth at least once.

I've had mine for 3 years and absolutely love it! It cost about 500.00 but other than my co-pay, my insurance covered all of it. I've had no bad side effects. One good side effect, in 3 years, I've gottem my perior twice. And even then, it was much lighter then ever before.

ETA, my doctor won't even consider the Mirena as an option if you haven't had at least one child.

At least hormones are quasi-natural. Copper scares me, but I will still check it out. Thanks! :thumbsup2

I think because it is easier to insert havng had a child.

Our doctor recomended it to both of us (we didnt ask her about it ).

She knows however that 1. we both have no interest in having children ever and 2. my girl wanted a much more concrete way of not having periods and at the age of 29 the dr. just wouldnt do it.(the alternative)

Got it... Love it. Would do it again. Crampy at the beginning, but after a while my periods got super light. Some months I dont have one at all, but I have the PMS :p

Has anyone had one or know someone that did after 2 c-sections? My current OB said I can't have one because of scare tissue. He is not the one that delivered my kids. I am just wondering if I need to get a second opinion.

I just called Planned Parenthood and they will insert Mirena even if you don't have a child, but the cost including exam and STD testing is $850!! :scared1:

I've had 3 c-sections and have had the Mirena for about 3 yrs now. No complications at all. My dr knew my history of c's and didn't say anything about scar tissue. Maybe this is new?

I've also had 3 c-sections, and just got the Mirena last spring. I had no cramping, light spotting the first month, and nothing since then.
