Hi!

Wait...don't leave...

Yes you...the lurker and the veterans!

You with that blue shirt on..Yes you...brown hair, coffee in your hand... :surfweb: places you should be besides here...

I need a Christmas miracle and it all counts on you. Well not all, but a huge majority. Okay...not huge but pretty big and if you don't reply guilt will follow you, your children and your children's, hamster's children.

If you don't reply there is a good chance that some severe ramifications will hit you like the plagues of the ages. Yes, that's what I said. PLAGUES. Remember Plagues? Grasshoppers, locousts, bratty children, non-potty trained puppies and the worst....Tiggers gone awry! :rotfl2:

Here is our real story - 3rd edition due to too much sadness and then too long winded!

Me and DH - Chad have been married 16+ years since we were 19 & 21. He is older! We had 2 kids in college - DS1 - Treyner is 16 and DD Carsyn is 13. We were so broke that I never thought we could afford the real Kraft Mac N Cheese, let alone a trip to Mickey in style. We graduated with a road trip to MK and Epcot under our belts and had DS 2 - Baylor 11 in 1996. Bought a house a few months later plus membership to the DVC! Life was O'Tay!

I have to get serious for real...no I am not kidding...for real...get the kleenex ready cause here comes the sappy part.

I had many kidney infections throughout the pregnancies and was told not to worry. March 1996, I was not pregnant and was hospitalized for an infection and then Dr's began to worry. It turned out I had a congenitive kidney defect and so much damage was done by having the 3 children, I was not in good shape. From 1996-1998 I was in the hospital almost 11 months total. After surgery in 1998 it has been less often but at least 2 times a year for a 4-8 day stretch.

See I told you it was serious. I tried to worn you but you had to think that I am just all sunshine and lollipops....

Back to Little Women,

The sad truth is that I missed out on so much of the important things and this includes 2 of Treyner's B-days. One he went on with and had a great bowling party. The other he stayed with me in my room and shared a bed w/ all the IV's and I. He said that there was nowhere he wanted to be but with me. I cried and cried and held him all night as the nurses came in w/ flashlights so not to wake him as they checked on me. That is what brings me to this trip.

So to FF and catch you up on any details that may help you help me...Life is okay..better but not great. I was just in the hospital in Nov/Dec again several times and each is such a setback financially. We rented our DVC points for extra $ - Treyner needed it for a Missions trip and Carsyn for a school government weekend. I was sure that Disney would allude us this year. But not so!

Thanks to the Dis Boards and all of the great tipsters, I was able to get 40% off the Poly in Dec.:goodvibes This means a small down payment and a long time to save to make it happen.

DH is more of a, "I need the $ in my hand before I can believe it," person, so he is not optomistic. He does not feel the magic right now...he is feelin the stack of bills. He needs to have faith and those bills will be okay. I have lived through the Great Depression. Well actually just a depression of "this sucks" but that was pretty big, some may even call it great.

The kids do not know anything about this. :woohoo:
I sell Tupperware and with that flexible income I will just do a little more. Who doesn't need a bowl?

All 3 of my kids have been so supportive and this is a gift to them all. Seeing their faces as I headed out by ambulance on Dec 30th was the inspiration for this trip.

Side note -
Actually they all are in therapy with Dr. Phil because they found me in the bathroom, on the ground, slightly naked. No that is not where I sleep! I fainted from dehydration and knocked myself out on the vanity as I was preparing to get in the shower. Just what any 3 teenagers should witness. Blood, moaning and their mother in her Birthday suit! They tried to dress me without moving me - I was detailed in bright red Mickey Pajama pants and an orange Tommy Hifllfiger t-shirt after the final runway. Okay ya gotta laugh. Seriously, I felt like death, bleeding from several places on my face and looked like MiMi from Drew Carey. What was even better was that the 3 paramedics (AKA Huey Duey and Louie) could not get an I.V. ran if the Miss USA title was on the line. and neither could Nurse Wratchet at the hospital. I ended up with 10 I.V. attempts before one succeeded and my arms looked like the color of an eggplant. ! Plus Dr. McDreamy happened to be the E.R. physician and I know the only thing holding him back from asking me to leave my family and run away to the Bahama's with him was my HR Puff -N- Stuff ensemble.
End Side note -

So anywho, I need to restore their magic, their hope for a better future and the ability to just be kids without adult problems. To laugh and smile is going to be my gift to them and it will happen! You just feel a connection with everyone at Disney and more connected to yourself too. The truth is I need this as much as they do.

Treyner's 17th B-day is on Dec 14th and we have ressies the 15th - 22nd. I may move it up a day to arrive on his B-day. I literally could not have asked for anything more because doing so would change who he is. He always is the first to say he does not need something if he is worried about our finances and he will just flip out. He is the Holiday fiend at our home. The lights man and chop down your own tree or it's not Christmas kind of guy. He will love the decorations and lights so much.

So here is where I need your help.

#1 Do we stay at Poly the whole time or split with AKL?

#2 I want a list of your 1st choices for Restaurants!

#3 What have you done extra at the park that was worth the money and what was not so worth the money?

#4 Ideas of how to get a family to the airport without anyone catching on. I have a few but you are the best!

I love to joke but please know that this trip to me is no joke. I am as serious as a snorkeler with no teeth. (which was my Father in law in 2002 when my MIL decided he did not need a pair of choppers as much as she needed a new wardrobe for a cruise.):rotfl2:

More to come...I hope you enjoy this journey as much as I will!:lovestruc

Hello fellow Dis Fans!:cool1:

I am so excited I will explode if I don't share my joy with someone who will understand!

I want to start a thread that I will continue throughout the year. (Yes, I said year and that my friends is why I may be the first person to combust. I appologize in advance to those who may lose life, limb or property in the near vacinity of my fat flying!):rotfl2:

So let me start the story and please contribute as you would like...this is after all a group project and without you I would not write... The saga begins a long, long time ago in a land far, far away...

Okay so that is way to glamorous! Picture...Nebraska circa 1990. DH - Chad and myself are college sweethearts who marry young and have an adorable son (DS Treyner - 16) who pushes them to be better and do better. DH plays college football and we try a normal life as married couple in a testosterone riddled environment. In 1993 we learn we will have another blessing joining us and decide to spend spring break in Florida at Disneyworld. Who needs beaches and bikkinis when you are 4 months pregnant! (Needless to say DH did not have a choice!:thumbsup2 )

Our trip was cold..(the coldest March in the history of Florida ...we wore winter jackets the whole trip) but the bug was instilled in my heart. We were naive travelers...arrived at MK at 1 p.m. and assumed we could just kick it out  side note - we were just 23 and 21 after all! Please forgive us - End side note

We went to the GF fo a character breakfast and Pluto was the highlight...exspecially after he accidently put his mouth around Treyner's head swallowing him up to his waist. (He was 2) Every time Pluto came near our table Treyner was screaming in terror! (Tigger has nothing over that dog!)

Then...we hit EPCOT and a few other Florida highlights and headed home. The thought of the magic was always there though and I could not wait for our next trip.

DD - Carsyn 13 - was born in August and in Jan 1996, DS2 - Baylor 11 - was the last to join. We went back to Disney in March 1997 after purchasing a home and stayed at the All Stars. Fell head over heals in love with the Mouse and never have looked back. We purchased through DVC that same year and have been so blessed with numerous trips.

But...as all stories go...there was a tragic turn...unfortunatley this involved me and was/ is serious. :sad1: I had many kidney infections throughout the pregnancies and was told not to worry. March 1996, I was not pregnant and was hospitalized for an infection and then Dr's began to worry. It turned out I had a congenitive kidney defect and so much damage was done by having the 3 children, I was not in good shape. From 1996-1998 I was in the hospital almost 11 months total. The other he stayed with me in my room and shared a bed w/ all the IV's and I. He said that there was nowhere he wanted to be but with me. That my friend is what brings me to this trip.

So to FF and catch you up on any details that may help you help me...Life is okay..better but not great. DH is more of a "I need the $ in my hand before I can believe it" person, so he is not optomistic. The kids know nothing and will not until the day of departure.:woohoo:

I have nothing to do but believe in pixie dust and Mickeys magic!:wizard:
I am putting every extra dollar to the trip and the kids just think we are cutting back due to finances anyway!;) This will happen. I sell Tupperware and with that flexible income I will just do a little more.

All 3 of my kids have been so supportive and this is a gift to them all. Seeing their faces as I headed out by ambulance on Dec 30th was the inspiration for this trip. Treyner's 17th B-day is on Dec 14th and we have ressies the 15th - 22nd. I may move it up a day to arrive on his B-day. He is just an awesome kid. Super athletic, super cute and so caring for others.

I want any and all advice on Restauraunts and faves of yours to do that is out of the ordinary. Like a sleigh ride at the campgrounds etc. This is going to be an awesome adventure with you as my fairies of wisdom I will give them a trip we will cherish forever in the times that are not so good. I want to bounce ideas off of you every step of the way! Including, the idea I have to surprise all of them...that will be the next installment!

More to come...I hope you enjoy this journey as much as I will!:lovestruc

First, let me say, your story has moved me. I dont often get emotional anymore.. But, I am truly moved.

Your son sounds awesome, in a world where kids are so spoiled (mine included) I must say your children really understand how special it is to go to the World.

I will be sending pixiedust and prayers.. And, I will hopefully follow your wonderful trip plans.

We loved the Hoop De Doo Revue! We planning a trip back in October (really September but the kids dont know, they think it is in October)

I told them lets plan on trying new things.. they want to do HDDR again.

Anyway, I hope everyting goes well for you!!

Thanks for your words of encouragement. I truly mean it. That is the thing I need the most and you gave me a gift without a price. I'll try and get pictures of the family up and viewable by this weekend!:)

Hi, we have a pre-trip board now, and I can move you over to that board till you actually take your TR. Remember the Theme Parks Strategy Board and Resort Board and Dining Board-lots of info on those boards too. Thanks for joining the DIS and I think planning is almost as much fun as going to WDW.

We were just there Dec 15-22, great time to go!

The extra we did that I highly recommend if you can get it is an Illuminations Cruise. It was incredible and Holiday Illuminations is just so cool!

The extra we did that I would say "Eh" to? The Holiday Sleigh Ride at the Wilderness Lodge. It was nice but nothing spectacular.

Allyson :)

DizneyDawn; an amazing story. You're right. Your family does deserve this trip and if your kids need to be reminded that they are kids, no better place to do it. I'm in for the pre-trip and will be waiting for your posts popcorn::

You might check out the budget board if you're trying to save some extra $$.
There are some very cheap,er.... I mean, thrifty people on there with some great ideas!

I did my best... Nice to see you on the Peeps thread!!!

Subbing, saw your post on the peeps thread. Best of luck!

for fear of locusts:

Our favorite ADR's...
1. BOMA a Taste of Africa- buffet at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Fabulous!

2. Wolfgang Puck at the west side of Down Town Disney. AWE-some!

Go read a bunch of dining reviews and resort reviews. That'll be really helpful!

Planning is half the fun!

Hi, Dawn

I came over after you posted on the peeps thread. Thanks for sharing your story. I love that you have a sense of humor re: all the not so funny real life experiences that could cause lesser women to fret. You are awesome.

My children are roughly the same ages as yours: DD born in 1989, DD born in 1993, and DS born in 2000 (I went to WDW 5 months pregnant with him.) I know what you mean about rewarding those fantastic, smart, sensative kids that are so deserving of something wonderful. That's exactly the way I felt about our last trip.

RE: your questions....

Split Stay: I don't have deluxe experience but if it were me, I'd stay at the Poly. I never understand why people want to take time to change hotels. :confused3 I've read trip reports where people moved and the room wasn't ready or was not to their liking and they wasted half the day trying to get it straightened out. We never really spend a lot of time in the room and the thought of packing up our whole family and moving half way through the week just does not appeal to me. Just my opinion.

Restaurants:
Kona and Le Cellier. We took DS to the Neverland Club and had an "adult" dinner with the teens when we ate at Kona. He LOVED it there.

Extra at the parks: MNSSHP...not worth the $ IMO. Can't speak for MVMCP. Lots of trip reports of people who have been there that are in progress. Definitely think I would do dinner package for Candlelight Processional. I would love to see that....and the Osborne Lights.

Surprise at the airport: Read Mony's Mission Accomplished Trip Report.

Just a thought...
I surprised DS6 with our trip in Sept. but my older children were very into the planning and it was almost as much fun for them as for me. I let both DDs chose a restaurant where they wanted to eat. DD17 chose the castle?? I would have never known that it had always been her dream to eat there. DD13 chose Coral Reef and enjoyed combing the menus on allearsnet.com. Anyway, my point is...would it be fun just to surprise your oldest son for his birthday? Let the younger kids in on the surprise? Little kids don't have the upper hand very often. ;) Just a thought.

Extra credit: We did not get park hoppers which saved us $175 and worked out fine. I used Tour Guide Mike....and it was worth every penny. We did not go to the water parks but that sounds like something fun for your kids...December though? Not sure. I also enjoyed splitting up boys and girls a couple of times so my DDs and I could shop and the boys could rent water crafts, fish, etc.

Hope this helps, Dawn.....Enjoy the planning!

Hey...the Peeps Rock!:cool1:

I am not computer savey so I will beg forgiveness and probably ask silly questions but...how do you highlight in yellow and copy /paste peoples comments to respond to them? I tried and currently...my main computer is sitting in 3 inches of snow outside :badpc: and there is some howling that sounds vaguely like a cat may have been injured in the process....

PETA members...that was a joke.

Replies to those who posted...

#1 Mouseketeer Mom - Thanks for reminding me of the budget board again...I will beg my el sposo to let me back on since the budget board cost me $25 roughly on Mickey Crocks! Ha Ha!

#2 Backstage - Thanks for your post..what does subbing mean? Don't laugh too hard at my language barrier!

Utah Mama - Your posts are so funny on the peeps and I appreciate your reference to Locusts...it is funny what you write dazed out of your nut for a trip to Disney! I agree..planning is so fun...now if I could just plan on catching up with some Laundry!

lexmelinda - You provided me ith so much info and I so appreciate it. Great idea on bringing in the younger squadron. 2 Thoughts...one is what if something happens and we can't save and have to cancel in 45 days...I do not want them to be crushed as much as I would be...second...when you commit to something , darn it..commit. Bringing in the younger ones may make them easier to convince NO is the best answer when they want to have/get something not mandatory...like for example Mickey Crocs...not saying a girl can't be overcome with desire or anything...

Actually...I have a third thought...enlist the planner of the group..DD 13 who butts heads with me the most. Glad I have her and glad she is the only girl! :rotfl: I think it may be phenominal to utilize her computer skills and love of never having one up on the boys. We could be a team united!

Thanks again - I have done some of the suggestions already...some notyet and the best is feeling there is always so much more I can learn!

Another Peep on board! What a moving story, your kids sound great, as your trip is so far away I would wait untill you're sure you're definately going before telling the kids. There again once the DIS addiction strikes and it doesn't take long :rotfl2: you'll have a hard time explaining why you're on a Disney website for so many hours. :lmao:

To quote people either hit the quote button on their post or to quote several people hit the "+ button and when you're ready to reply hit the reply button and all the posts will be there! Hope that makes sense otherwise just have a play around. :thumbsup2

Great start on a great story!! I have been to the world twice and hope to go in May, kind of a quick spur of the moment trip really, havent done ANY planning as not sure that we will still get to go...but anyhoo - I'll be checkin in with you !!! SEe you on the Peeps board!

Dizneydawn glad to have you. I came here after I saw you on the Peeps thread. I so hope that you guys can go it seems that you need it. Your DS sounds like mine--could not have asked for a more compassionate kid and very compliant to boot. I think I would get your kids involved on a relative term. I did this for a trip in November. We had a Mickey night--just reminise (sp) and I asked what they liked and didn't like. If they could back to just one place to eat where would it be so on and so forth. Now we were able to secure ours for sure a lot further out and we then let them know we were going. I always let each kid pick a place to eat. That is a tradition for us. As far as getting them to the airport without knowing--maybe you could do some kind of scavnger hunt on the way there. When my kids were younger we drove 10 hours with them not knowing where we were going. It was a great surprise. Go look at the menues and see what is good for you--and then post of the restuarant board and see what people think. I love LeCelliar, Ohanas, and Teppanyaki, but others disagree. Good luck and ask away. See ya at the peeps.

Have fun with the planning.

1) I love AKL and would love to stay there. (We haven't been willing to shell out for cash stays at deluxe resorts yet but are excitedly looking forward to the DVC addition.) I used to wonder why people did split stays but on our last trip we planned late and had to split the stay. It ended up being great. We spent a full day at each of the resorts (serious cost-savings in terms of park tickets) and planned to spend the moving day at the water park. That way you can sleep in (check-out isn't until 11 after all), check in at the new resort (have bell services transfer your bags) and then go off for a fun afternoon and come back to everything being ready. (Plus, if you split your stay, you can use the DDP for half of your trip and not the whole thing.) (Btw, the water parks are fabulous in the middle of winter--heated water and no crowds.) (Oh yeah, also note that holiday season begins on 12/20 so if you are going to split your stay you need to move by the 19th to save money.)

2) My favourite TS are Boma, Jiko, Le Cellier, & Spoodles. My favourite CS are Toy Story Pizza (MGM), Pecos Bill (MK), Fish & Chips (EP) and I'm looking forward to checking out the new one going into Asia in AK.

3) See my water park suggestion above. The one thing I'd add though is that they aren't probably worth the money if you pay for a single entry but they work out well if you do the plus option with your park tickets. I didn't enjoy DQ very much but the teens around me seemed to--if you get the pluses you could sent the kids off to DQ on their own one evening. In terms of cost savings, I would try to work out which days you need theme park tickets for and avoid paying for days by planning all of your out-of-park activities on the same days.

4) I really have no idea how you get a family to the airport without telling them about it--especially when they are old enough to need advance notice to miss tests at school. Perhaps you could tell them that you are going somewhere else--somewhere that doesn't get them excited.

#2 Backstage - Thanks for your post..what does subbing mean? Don't laugh too hard at my language barrier!

Subbing means subscribing. Once you post to a thread, when you click on User CP on top of the page, it will tell you if there is a new post on that thread, until you unsubscribe. Although I find it is not always reliable.

You can also quote by highlighting what you want, then hit reply, paste, then click the last box on top of the reply toolbar.

I don't know how your going to keep that big of a secret for a year!! I couldn't do it:scared1:
Try out Mitsukoshi in Japan... ask for the latest lunch reservation. They serve you so much food you'll only have to eat a small something for dinner and you'll pay the lunch prices. The meal no longer includes a salad, but if you like ginger dressing you'll love the salad!!

Just another peep, pooping in! I have to admit the part about how your kids dressed you to go to the er had me in tears! My kids have also grown up with a mom with health problems, mine makes me pass out , so my poor kids have found me in various places in diffrent stages of dress and undress! I've been planning a suprise trip for my kids since november for may. It's nearly killing me keeping it a secret! Good luck, and I'm intrested to see advice on getting kids to the airport without telling them why!

Hi!

More to come...I hope you enjoy this journey as much as I will!:lovestruc

Hey there! Yet another Peep here! Wow - you and your family definitely need this trip! And it sounds like you have a wonderful family! I'll try to give my answers to of your questions.

#1 I personally am not a fan of splitting stays. I like to move in, get settled, and turn it into my home for the time being. Having to pack up and start all over again wouldn't do it for me unless I was staying for like a week in each resort. LOL yeah, like that would ever happen. But you did good with the Poly! I've stayed there twice and absolutely love it! If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Of course the plus side of moving to the AKL is that you might save some money depending on the type of room you get there but the difference might be minimal.

#2 Restaurants - hmm, thats tough. For dinner shows, I agree that the Hoop Dee Doo was really great and I would definitely do it again. For restaurants, I love Liberty Tree Tavern at MK for a quiet but yummy lunch (no characters), UK and Mexico at Epcot have been good to me, Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club has a good character breakfast that I think is very under-rated. Great food and awesome character interaction. Just had lunch this past weekend at Crystal Palace and it was pretty good - breakfast was good as well. Characters came around twice and were very interactive. I usually do more counter service so this one was hard for me. If you want to know about those, I could probably help you out.

#3 Since you will be there over the Christmas holidays, I would do the Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. Very fun time. I would also consider the Candlelight Processional dinner package at Epcot. You get dinner at one of the World showcase rest. and then priority seating during one of the shows.

#4 No idea how to get the kiddos to the airport without them realizing it other than blindfolding them and making a surprise very obvious LOL. What were your ideas?

Happy Planning! I look forward to reading it as you go!
*Shannon
