Minor Vent--I've Had It With Coldwater Creek

Been there, done that. Catalog shopping (for clothes) is so depressing. But I'm stuck with it as long as I have 2 busy kids and a full-time job.

I usually avoid CC because a lot of the stuff looks like knits and I can't wear those. (I have bulges in wierd places.) Same with J Jill.

Or, on the other end of the spectrum, there's linen. I refuse to pay top dollar for clothes that must be dry cleaned so I can look like a wrinkled urchin as soon as I get out of the car.

Kohl's stuff shrinks and most of Ann Taylor's is too low-cut. It's gotten to point that I hate looking for new clothes.

As sad, plain, and dull as they are, I usually have to stick with LL Bean, Lands End, and Talbots. Due to their prices, I'm usually limited to just 2 or 3 new items per season. What's worse, I always have to pay full price b/c my sizes are always sold out by the time sales come around.

{{{Sigh}}} I hate shopping for work clothes. Hate it hate it hate it.

I buy most of my clothes at Christopher and Banks. No catalog though.
Good luck finding clothes. I struggled with it for years and finally found a store I like.

I love their stuff. Classic and simple. Just need to lose about 5 more pounds to fit into their stuff again. I have two very nice floral skirts I bought a few years ago that'll still look nice.

I've been buying a lot at NY and Co the past year. They've got some nice fitted blouses. I'm 5'3", but the store I go to always seems to have a lot of tall pants!

Yeah, they make a few items (pants) in Talls but not everything. I bought some camisoles there a few weeks ago--didn't try them on--and had to return them as the were at my rib cage.

The one catalog I order from consistently is j.jill. I LOVE the quality of the clothing and the fit. They are generous in their fit, too. I have worn their clothes through five sizes as I lost weight, and I keep buying them as I need smaller sizes.

I was hoping someone would mention 'us' I work there!!!

The weirdest thing about CC catalogs bother me...

I can't stand their captions! They drive me batty!

They've gone out of business here. I got two suits at the Casual Corner Annex last year. Now they are gone. Even Petite Sophisticate.
I think the entire Casual Corner company along with the affiliates has closed entirely.

Christine, Do you have a Forth & Towne near you. It is a wonderful store from the company that owns the GAP, geared towards women over 35. They have really nice, stylish clothes made for the more mature woman - nothing frumpy at all. I buy their more casual items (since I am SAHM) but they also have some very nice stuff for the professional. We have two stores in the Chicago area - Old Orchard and Woodfield. IIRC, you are in Northern Virginia, I would think you may be able to find one at Tyson's Corner or possibly Montgomery Mall in MD.
No website because I believe the store is in the testmarket stage.

I've heard of Forth & Towne but haven't heard where there is one. I don't *think* there is one at Tysons. I was there back in January and didn't see it. The Coldwater Creek I was *trying* to get to is at Tysons (and Fair Oaks). I'm down in Prince William County so for me to go to either of these places usually works out to be a daylong event because of the time it takes to shop and the traffic on the return trip home. And my kids have me going somewhere, it seems, every weekend. Guess it's time for a trip to Tysons.

I used to buy from CC quite a bit but the quality went down hill. I would shop their Seattle store when I could so I could see what I was really getting. The pictures are very misleading. I bought a couple of nice looking jackets that were horrible material when they arrived. Much thinner and cheap looking not at all like the catalog. I try to buy my nicer work clothes at Nordstrom Rack now.

My suggestion is Talbots. I spend a fortune there, but it fits and is "age appropriate" (I am 45 years old and there is no need for me to dress like a tramp LOL!)

For all of you moaning about having a hard time finding your size, I just have to interject this: I was watching the womens' NCAA Regional Basketball Tournament last night, and Duke has a player who is 6 ft. 7 inches tall. Can you IMAGINE trying to find clothes if you were 6'7" ?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to shop Talbots until a few years ago when I could not find one spring/summer dress or blouse that had sleeves. I want sleeves.
