"Minor" Allergy Issue

DD is allergic to eggs, but her reaction is more like an intolerance (vomiting) rather than a life-threatening allergy. We have been able to do a great job just avoiding foods with egg in them, but it's the unexpected foods - like some ice cream - that usually get us into trouble.

So I'm wondering how to handle our meals in Disney World. Would a call to Dietary Services be "overkill" for us? Generally if there's a questionable food, we just ask waiter and they check for us, but would I be better gathering some info before we go?

Thanks!

My family has a long list of food intollerances. None of our intollerances result in life threatening reactions. Our reactions are GI and/or neurological. We always contact Brenda with Special Diets and we always make notes of our intollerances on our ADRs. We treat these no differently than allergies. We have to watch out for cross contamination just like somebody with life threatening allergies. Yes, our risks are as severe, but the impact to our lives is still the same (well, we don't need to worry about what our kids touch when we're out and about and they're way beyond the putting strange things in their mouths stage so we don't need to worry AS much, but you know what I mean).

Why would you consider it overkill? You don't want to risk your vacation, or even more importantly, the health of your daughter. There is nothing remotely overkill about planning.

Your waiter will be required to get the chef if you ask him to check on foods for you. This is Disney policy. It's for the safety of their guests.

We like the lists of safe foods that Brenda sends via email because I can put together a list of what foods at what locations are safe. I'm referring to snack foods and counter service foods. This way we can just walk up to places that we know carry safe things and just request what we want rather than having to wait for a manager to bring out a huge binder and have to look through the binder while everybody waits for you to read. I'm a planner in case you couldn't tell. LOL

Thanks! I'm definitely a planner too! I guess by "overkill", I feel a little bad having the chef come talk to us for every meal, but if it prevents one episode of puking, it'll be worth it - for everyone, trust me! :rotfl:

I will email and get the list like you suggested. That way, I can get the CS and snacks ahead of time, and a note on the ADRs will take care of the TS meals.

Thanks again for the help. :goodvibes
