Minnie Marathon 2007 -- WISH Roster (see post 1 for WISH Meets Info!)

Stephanie: I'm also coming off hip bursitis rehab so have to go about it a bit more slowly. I just ran 50 minutes the other day and my hip is doing well.
Hope everyone is having great weekend!

Hi RedDragon - I have been battling hip bursitis for over a year - Do you have any magic :wizard: tips from your rehab that you could share?

I am doing the Minnie 15K, but I'd like to add some new rehab items to my training as we get closer.

Thanks for anything you can share.

I am only doing the 5K this time. I will fess up to being quite intimidated on here being a brand new runner. Though this time last month, I was out of breath jogging to our mail box! So I am proud!

I ran/walked 2 miles in about 30 minutes. I feel much better today although I was so sore, and dreaded getting going this morning. It gets easier right?

Hmmm. Guess I will be getting my friend to pick me up to head to DD then.

Everyone has to start somewhere. The key is to slowly work your self up to the level you want to be. Nobody can go from the couch to a marathon overnight! Slow and steady gets you there without injuries or frustration that causes you to quit:)

Before you know it you will be doing 10K's, than 15K's, halfs and maybe a full. Never say you can't do it.

Keep up the good work:yay:

DisneyWalkerGirl: Hey, sorry to hear you also are coming off hip bursitis! It's hard to come back. I spent 16 visits to a physical therapist and spent another 2 months getting to the point of being able to run without walking. They gave me a number of exercises. What I've found has been the most helpful are the stretches. Ham string, quads, calf, and, especially the IT band stretch.

I'll try to find the exercises I do online as my descriptions are not that great.

Good afternoon team.

9 Weeks today I am on my way......why is it taking sooooo long to get here.

Kim

Hi, everyone! I am sorry I haven't updated in a while. I don't even have much to report in the way of training. I have been doing at least 3 miles on the TM about 3 times a week and something a bit longer on Saturdays. I have 3 5K races in March, so I am going to have to figure out how to fit time in to add some more long wogs in on those weekends so that I don't fall behind on training.

I think I have everyone updated in the first post. Please double-check me to see that I have everyone listed along with names, events and resorts. Wow, just a little over 9 weeks and "I'm going to Disneyworld!!!"

Well, my time is not getting any better, but I am less out of breath. LOL
I am gaining quite a bit of upper body strength from pushing the rugrats around in their stroller during the week(only get to run by myself on the weekends).

Weight loss is not my primary goal here, but I would like to see some loss(I am about 30 lb overweight right now). After four weeks of walking and running, I am still at the same. My body is reshaping, so am I guess I am just building muscle? What is going on?:confused3

Another question, my neighborhood has mostly cul de sacs with inclines. Will that effect my training? I would think that would make it easier on flat ground(assuming the 5K is on "flat" ground). Should I try to find flat areas to run instead?

Thanks for welcoming me and helping let me give myself "permission" to take things slower. :)

Only 9 weeks until the Minnie's 5K! Staying at the AKL!

Hi, Kimberly! :wave2: You are exactly right in that your body is probably "reshaping." Take your measurements now, if you haven't already, to compare in a month. During training is a hard time to lose weight!

Working on inclines will definitely help you be speedy on the flat surfaces! I'm doing the 5K for the first time this year, so the course is new to me. Like Robert says, take it slow and easy in your training even if it's only 3 miles!:goodvibes

Hey Anne - Do you know where you're staying for the Minnie yet? :goodvibes

That's so funny, Judy!! I was just getting ready to post where we will be staying. We took the great deal at Buena Vista Suites off property as we will have a car. There are going to be so many old friends and NEW WISHers to meet!! :goodvibes Anne

Anne -- We've stayed there and loved it. The free breakfast is a very nice bonus. Loved having the microwave and fridge in the living room area.

Hi! I posted my information on this thread before, but here it is again!;) I'm staying at the Polynesian and I will have a car if anyone needs transportation to Epcot on race morning.

How's everyone doing with training? I'm a little ahead of schedule but I think it's because I'm nervous about 9 miles! Right now I am up to 5:thumbsup2 I'm hoping 9 doesn't seem too bad by April. I'm also trying to figure out when/how I should eat prior to a run over one hour so any advice would be great!

9 weeks!:dance3:

Vicki - I use those Gu packets for longer wogs. I also like the Jelly Belly Sport Beans, but those make me a bit nervous. I am afraid I am going to throw them in my mouth and choke since I am walking fast at the same time.

Once I started taking Gu with me on longer training wogs, I wasn't burning out. They really do help!

Vicki--I use the Clif Shot Bloks during LRs. I'm in the minority, but I really can't stomach the consitency of the GUs. The Bloks are more like a cross between the consistency of a gumdrop and a gummy bear. And I really like the taste.

I'm also trying to figure out when/how I should eat prior to a run over one hour so any advice would be great!

Vicki, I'm sure the more experienced members will chime in, but here's my 2 cents. I've been doing this for a year, and I still don't have it figured out!! I just read in RW the advantages to green tea, so now I'm eating wheat toast with peanut butter(protein), a banana(potassium) and drinking a cup of green tea. This seems to be working well. I've tried a Quaker Oatmeal Breakfast cookie and a banana prior to this. Others had mentioned the peanut butter last year, so I thought I would give it a try. The PBJ sandwich that some do is looking better and better as I wouldn't have to worry about a toaster! I also have learned to not take any vitamins prior to a LW.

Isn't it Helen that eats a bowl of cereal after she arrives at the race?

At any rate, eat about 40 minutes to an hour prior to your long run, so that everything can be resolved before leaving the house! :rotfl: HTH!!! :goodvibes Anne

I really miss the "see all previous posts by...." thing we used to have!!
Vicki, I went back through this thread but didn't see where you posted your level. No way am I going through the training thread!!;) Will this be your first event? Whne you do any new mileage, it's awesome! So, 9 miles won't be bad in April. Just don't push too fast. :)

Judy..ME?? Miss a WISH Meet?? Not if I can help it!! Circumstances have intevened for my SIL and it is doubtful that she will be coming. If that's the case, then I am soooo at EoS!! I'll be wearing my WISH shirt for easy identification...:lmao:

Cam, :flower3: Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!! I always worry about the places I pick for us to stay in when they are off property.

All this talk of an earlier start had me digging through my stuff from last year. I guess 15 minutes earlier could make a difference...:goodvibes Anne
