Minnie Marathon 2007 -- WISH Roster (see post 1 for WISH Meets Info!)

After I collapsed after my 7.5 miles today, I was thinking, wow, only 1.8 more miles for the Minnie 15K! I'm glad I get to build the miles gradually, and get used to them! How's everybody else's training going?

Oh, I'm not sure if this was mentioned or not before--but the weekend of the Minnie is also Cinco de Mayo, and hte Mexico pavilion is having special food, drinks and other stuff! Count me in for a margarita!!!

That margarita is a treat! I'm planning on hitting Epcot post-race (after I hit the showers, of course;) ) and enjoying lunch (Chefs de France??) and a margarita from the Mexican stand!:dance3:

Training is going well, I think. I ran 6 miles on Monday  and it didn't feel bad at all! Only a 5K beyond that to the finish line. I'm hoping I feel that good/energized on the actual race day. Sometimes you just can't tell what kind of run you're gonna have. Cement legs, anyone?

Nucpharm, congrats again on the marathon.:cheer2:

I'm so looking forward to this race weekend. Only 8 weeks now! Wow!

Wow, 8 weeks from now I'll already be checked in to my resort and probably heading to the Expo.

It is so true about every run being different. I have had sessions where I feel like I am sludging my way through quicksand and other wogs where it seems easy-breezy! :thumbsup2

My LR this weekend will probably be around 6 am Saturday on the Y treadmill. EVery minute of the weekend seems booked and although I'd love to get outside, I just won't have free time at the time of day when the weather would be good enough to get outside. I am hoping to do 6 miles Saturday. I may try to download "Fame" to my video ipod to watch during my LR.

Stacey -- great job on the mileage!

As for the margaritas -- I may have to find somewhere else to get one. I am having dinner at Chef Mickey's that night. Do they serve alcohol there? :lmao: Actually, Howard and I have a post-race food tradition for marathon day. We go back to BCV, get showered and dressed and walk back to EPCOT for fish & chips in England and a glass of champagne at the kiosk in France. We usually share the champagne since we are at that point going on very little sleep and very little energy. ;)

Mel -- Matt is right -- "If I remember correctly"

Mel - I am thinking I need a Minnie bow or something, but I don't know if I can give up my Pooh Characters in teh hair. :confused3 Life's full of tough choices, isn't it? (What? No Ursula smilie?)

My training is going well. Tonight I'll be doing a 2 miler, then Saturday my "Long Run" is 3 miles. Can't wait to take that Garmin out for another spin! :cool1:

8 weeks from yesterday is when I'll be heading out. Our first night my mom and I are going to see La Nouba. It will be her first Cirque du Soleil show and I can't wait to see what she thinks of it!

disneyfanz04: How is the back feeling????

Thanks for asking, but it is not looking good...this was a work injury, so my PCP said that they would no longer treat me cause my primary ins. doesn't cover workmans comp injuries, so I had to go see a workmans comp doctor...well, if anyones been hurt at work before...THEY SUCK..oh wait can I say that on the DIs???:rotfl: He said that I was just having muscle spasms(even though I brought my MRI report that clearly states that I have 3 protruding discs(not the 5 like I originally thought) and that I could go back to work, so yesterday was the first day back and now I just feel like the back is getting worse and worse. I have to go back to the workmans comp dr. tomorrow, and I have to go to physical theropy tomorrow as well. I just am not sure from day to day, I just don't know how long I can go on with the pain. anyway I can't wait to walk again, I was thinking of going out this weekend even if it is just for a mile or even a half mile would be awesome!!!

HAPPY TRAINING EVERYONE!!! WOOOHOOO 8 more weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:woohoo:

I was reading your post on weekly thread and I really hope that spring comes soon for you guys I can NOT even imagine how the cold and snow must get old. :confused3

I can not wait till the MINNIE!! I am so sad that I won't be able to meet up with everyone at the WISH meet!! Training is going ok, still trying to nurse my knee a little, hoping to hit it hard again next week.

8 weeks from right now I will be at the airport getting ready to head south:yay: :yay: :yay: I am sooooooo excited!!

Mel-that sounds so cute! I have a black visor I have been trying to figure out how to get a Minnie bow attached to it.

disneyfanz04-I am so sorry about your back. I used to have alot of back problems, I know how painful & frustrating that can be. I hope you get some relief soon:wizard:

Have a great weekend everyone! See you soon.

disneyfanz04 - :wizard: :wizard:  That sounds awful! I hope something good happens soon! That is really scary.

disneyfanz04 So sorry to hear you are still in so much pain. Please take it easy we want you to be able to come to the Minnie so take it nice and slow.

Yaaa TiffJ, 8 weeks today DD and I will be heading I think to MGM.....yippeee.

What day is everyone planning on going to the Expo to pick up the packets???

Do we receive anything either by email or snail mail from Disney regarding the Minnie or do we just show up and get our stuff??

Thanks all

Kim

It is getting close, very close and I am so excited! I land in Orlando eight weeks from today around 10:15AM!! I'll head to Pop to check in (and hopefully get my room), after that I am tentatively planning on heading to MGM for a quick lunch and to catch the bus to the expo. After that :confused3 DD doesn't arrive until after midnight, so I am just going to wing it. I have an AP so I don't have to worry about wasting a day's admission if I just head to a park for a few hours. Oh the decisions!!

My training is going well, slow but sure - definitely not burning up the TM like some of you speed demons, but I am putting in the steps and so looking forward to adding a Minnie medal to my collection!

Might be a few of us at MGM...I think someone else mentioned that, maybe my fellow Canadian friend. DD and I will be having lunch at Prime Time...at 1 or 2 can't remember I know I posted it earlier.

Well, I have been enjoying the nice spring weather here, and ran outside 2 days last week, and 3 days this week. Did 2.4 miles in about 35 minutes. Getting there. I am still huffing and puffing though. Not as bad as I was this time 5 weeks ago though. :-)

I still can't manage to just jog the entire distance. I end up running about 3/4 a mile, walking 1/4, repeat. Will I ever build up endurance? I guess when I think that this is just my 2nd month running from zero exercise to now, that isn't too bad. I just get impatient. My legs still feel good. My shins don't ache now that I got the new shoes.

Kimberly

Kimberly - Dh adn I started with a walk 4 min/run 1 minute program in March 05. We transition to w3/r2, tehn r3/w2, then r4/w1 and finally all run. We hit all run early July (4 months). Every transition seemed liek a huge jump. How come 1 minute seems foever when you run it and like nothing when you walk it? ;) You will get there. Just don't push too hard and injure yourself! :wizard:
8 weeks. I can do this. Just 8 weeks. Is it May yet? ;)

I'll be picking my packet up at the expo on Friday, then having dinner at 50s Prime Time at MGM that evening. Saturday of course I'll be at EoS! Seriously - I cannot wait for WDW!!

Kimberly - Don't be hard on yourself for not being able to job the entire distance. I follow Jeff Galloway's mantra of being sure to include walk breaks. I follow a R4/W1 philosophy. The walk breaks make the longer runs easier on your body, and you can actually run faster if you be sure to incorporate them, rather than trying to run all out.

I recommend checking this link out:

Good evening my fellow Minnie marathoners.

Does anyone know how long you have to finish the race and still get a medal??

I think I worked it out to 2 hours and 25 min at a 9K per K pace but just want to make sure.

Thanks

Kim

I have a followup question to HC's. Do they cut you at the 5K or the Minnie? I can't see how they could at the 5K. I could see they could at the Minnie until you get MGM? Did anyone get picked up LY?

Robert - I was concerned about the 5K as well as my mom and I will be walking it (she had surgery to remove a bunion on one foot at the end of Feb, then surgery on the other foot this week - brave woman!). I checked last year's results and from the looks of things I doubt they could have sweeped it as the last few people crossed the line in about an hour.

Not sure about the 15K though. The official results end at 2.5 hours so it looks like they may sweep there??

Leana,

I looked at the results and the maps for both races. The 5K looks impossoble to cut. The 15K is the same last 15K of the marathon. I know there is plenty of areas during the 1st 5 miles to cut people. I heard rumors that it happened also.

Disney throws out that you must maintain 15 min pace at races(ie Family Fun Run 5k in Jan) but didn't cut people.

DW got hurt at the Goofy(PF) and hasn't been able to train and doesn't want to reinjury pushing it but wants to do the races.

There was a sweeper bus somewhere along the route last year, although I can't remember where I saw it.

Also, as I came around world showcase the long way (entering future world), I saw others coming in the short way. Apparently, they were over the 15 min. mile requirement and were redirected as they entered the back of Epcot. Those people were not happy to say the least!
