Minne Marathon Team List

We generally bring garbage bags to sit on, then we chat, visit the portapotties, stretch, visit the portapotties, make new friends, visit the portapotties..... :rotfl2: We are always "too excited to sleep" anyway :wizard:

:rotfl: :rotfl: I'm sure I'll be doing my share of portapottie visits. I never would have thought of bringing a garbage bag to sit; thanks for the suggestion. We'll have rental car, so Dh will drop me off at AK, than drive over to Epcot to watch the finish. Anybody know when they close the roads? Will DH be able to wait till around 7 to head over to Epcot, or will he need to be there before the race starts? Hmmm, he may need a thermos of coffee. If any other WISH cheerer's see a lonely looking man in a green WISH shirt, it may be my husband. :)

I thought i read that they start closing the roads for the 15k at 5:45am. It was in the final instructions.. hth.

I read in the final instructions that there will be buses taking spectators to the finish at Epcot after the start of the race. I am hoping that is true because I want my DH to see me start and see me finish. He will be driving me to AK that morning and he doesn't want to have to drive to Epcot (he prefers to let the bus drivers do the driving while at WDW) and I don't want him to get lost if he has to take a detour.

I just registered for the 5k. Anne, can you move me to the "both" list? Thanks. (My Dsis is doing only the 15k).

That would be perfect. I hope it works that way.

So a couple of practical questions, since we are talking parking and bussing.....what is the parking situation before the races? Is it parking at the parks? Do you pay if you are staying off-site? If a person were staying, say at OKW, would a cab be able to drop them off at Epcot to catch a bus? Or is it parking only?

Is there a bus to WWoS from....somewhere? From MGM maybe or DTD? Or is it strictly cab or rental car?

Can you clarify your question for me? If I am reading you right, it is 2 questions - for the 15k race parking, you can park at either AK or EPCOT for free no matter where you are staying. Your race packet will have a parking thingee (that is a technical term :rotfl: ) that allows you to park for free in either lot.

We prefer parking at EPCOT and taking the Disney race provided bus from the EPCOT parking lot back to the AK lot and the start. That way we just stroll to the car after the race and don't have to "rescue" the car from the AK lot.

For the second question on a bus to WWoS, are you asking to get to the Expo on Friday or Saturday? I can't recall if Disney buses go there and if so from where :confused3
Anyone done this for the expo?

Off subject but good news for those making the Minnie an extra long trip:

You are the nicest group of people. Thank you for the warm welcome. I did meet a few of you last year at Minnie as I recognized your WISH shirts and felt as if I knew you, kinda, if you know what i mean.

A little about me... I'm addicted to the DIS, Disney, and running. DH and I are DVC members and we love travel and photography, and food!

Angietuck2, my back problems are SI joint related. I'm not sure if it's loose, weak or just crooked. I don't really know how to explain it. But it's been going on for years. Now they think it could be caused by my feet's motion being completely different from each other. What was wrong with your back? How exciting that you are recovered and can race again! Congratulations.

Again, thank you! I'm looking forward to meeting you all!
Katie :)

Is 5AM early enough to be at EPCOT to catch a bus to the AK lot?

I am usually on a bus by 4:45, but they certainly keep rolling in for awhile after that. I would think 5 a.m. would be no problem.

Hello all - Having just spent the last two weeks getting over the flu, my training program is all messed up. What kind of L/Rs do you have scheduled for the next few weeks? Just wondering what everyone else is doing. :confused3

I have a 10K scheduled this weekend and then a 9 and 10 miler scheduled the following weekends. I wish it was May 4th this weekend, I can't wait to go!

yay, i found this thread.

im walking the 15K, staying off site (my parents gave me their TS)

i posted this somewhere else, but i was wondering if it was possible for me to get a WISH shirt for the race ??

Anne - Originally when I posted to say that I signed up I didn't specify which race. You put me down for both - when I noticed I thought, wow Anne thinks I can do both maybe I should try. Due to training outcomes :sad2: I have decided that my only goal for the Minnie is to finish:cheer2: . I'm not setting a time goal this year. I don't think I'll attempt the 5K the day before. I need to save all my energy to be able to finish the 15K. So, to make a long story short - can you switch me to the 15K only race. You can also put me down as staying at POP. Thanks so much for keeping up with the list. I can't wait to see you and all the other WISHers in a few weeks:goodvibes .

Honeibee-I'm following the Hal Higdon 15 K training and I have a 9 and 10 mile LR coming up the next couple of weeks. Glad you are feeling better.

Now for my questions...What do they serve to drink at the "water" stations on the course?

And, What do you take to the start, for example bottled water, banana, and do you send stuff on the bus to Epcot with your claim number to pick up at the end of the race?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Did my LR today outside. Started feeling like "can I do this" but once past the mile or so got into it.

Hi Judy,

I have been following a modified John Bingham Half Marathon training plan. I added some speed work from Runner's World smart coach in as well. My next several weeks look something like this; I haven't included the XT but I do try to get on the bike twice per week plus pilates most days:

Week of April 7: 5 mi/4 mi speed work/10 mile LR
Week of April 14: 5 mi/5 mi tempo/10 mile LR
Week of April 21: 5 mi/5 mi speed work/6 or 8 mile LR
Week of April 28: Minnie Week (a few easy runs leading up)

Judy - I have 10 scheduled for this weekend and 8 for next week and 5 for the week before the Minnie. I haven't been good about following my plan this time. :sad2: I think I'll probably be doing 8 for my LR this week, 7 next week and then 5. Good luck - I hope you'll be feeling better soon.

Joan - I'll probably be taking a banana, bagel and a bottle of water. We're going to park at Epcot and take the bus over to AK - that way the car will be at the finish. Last year I checked a bag that had a pair of flipflop type shoes (because I had some blistering issues during the 1/2 marathon that year) but I ended up not needing them. I'm not sure if I'll check a bag this year.

I've got some 7-8 mile runs planned the next couple weekends. I do the 5k distance on a regular basis during the week, usually 3 times. I did 5 miles last night and felt really good. I don't think I'll do much better than a 13 ish minute mile though, but that should be good enough. Considering when I really started training a few months ago I had an 18 minute mile, I am doing pretty good!!

I hope they have plain water or watered down gatorade at the stations. I can't drink the straight gatorade while I am running/walking it makes me sick to my stomach!!
