If you believe that God hears our prayers for our pets, we could really use them about now. My 11yr old Standard Poodle, Minky, is not doing well at all. He's lethargic, weak, ataxic. He's vomiting everything he eats, not drinking well. DH is taking him to the vet now, in fact. Minky has liver disease, but he's been doing well on his new food and new medication. We left him with our groomer, who knows him well, for 10 days while we went on a cruise. He has stayed with her many times and they treat him well. This time was no different, as far as we can tell. The groomer reports that he was lively and ate well until Sunday. He vomited Sunday, but seemed to recover. They went ahead and groomed him--we let him grow out during winter to keep his joints warm, so he looked like a baby bear.

Holy Cow! when we picked him up Monday he was skin and bones :scared1: DH took him to the vet and she drew some blood. He has lost 10-lbs in the last month, that's 14% of his body weight. I can see his spine & hips and his skin is just draping from his chest. He seemed subdued, but happy to see us and interested in eating. But he vomited again. I went to work yesterday and DH reported that Minky was very clingy, trembling and off-balance most of the day, but he greeted me happily as always. Well, things have gone downhill from there. He vomited 3 times yesterday evening and he keeps falling. I had to carry him upstairs and carry him outside to the bush. I was finally able to get some cottage cheese & pumpkin into him and he kept it down.

Obviously, I am very concerned. I think he may be dying. He is definitely dehydrated. I'm at work, but I talked with the vet. I'm pretty sure she's going to want to keep him and give him some IV fluids. Probably do some more tests. I don't want to engage in any heroic measures--after all, he is very old for a big dog. I want him to be comfortable. But right now he is very anxious, shaking, depressed, lethargic, and very weak. :guilty: I think I'm losing my best buddy

I am so sorry to hear that your furbaby is sick, and you are having to go through this. I will keep Minky in my prayers. And yes, I do truly believe that God hears our prayers for our pets.:hug:

I am so sorry. My heart breaks for you. I am wishing my best positive thoughts and prayers that Minky may recover from what is ailing him right now. There is nothing anyone can say that will make your worry and sadness disappear but please know I am thinking of you. I was where you are recently and if I could take away all the hurt I would. Please keep us updated.

ahh I'm sorry it is so hard. I lost a cat to liver disease after nursing her along for years.

Hopefully once they get your puppy re hydrated with the IV they will feel better and you all can have at least a bit more time.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Minkydog :sad1:

Prayers for strength.

Prayers for your sweet Minky and strength to your family.

I know you are scared. I've read many posts from you about Minky and know that he is so very loved. When my Scotties were ill, I found the words to the prayer of St. Francis to be very comforting. Due to board policies, I don't feel I'm allowed to post the verse, but it is easily found online. When my little dog was in ICU for an extended time, I found the prayer powerful and its words gave me hope as well as acceptance when it finally was time to say goodbye.

Thank you all for your kind words. DH just called from the vet's office. The vet was puzzled at the change--he was only there 2 days ago. Their xray machine is down, so no xrays, but they drew some labs. The vet is going to keep him in the front office where they can watch him well and give him IVs. She wants to keep him overnight, but I think he will be more anxious if he stays there. So we're planning to go in at 5pm and reevaluate the situation. If he needs to stay, so be it. I know I'll be on pins & needles all day.

Keep us posted with any updates. We're here for ya!

I am so sorry that Minky is not feeling well ... I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers ...

(I also sent u a PM) ... :flower3:

If no one is going to be there with him I would take him home and then bring him back in in the AM. I did this with my cat. They can cap the IV and leave the port in.

If no one is going to be there they will not be doing anything for him and at home at least you can sit with him and love him and he won't feel alone and afraid. Especially if things go bad.

Remember they can only recommend they can't MAKE you do anything, he is your dog.

I'm sending prayers your way. I lost my sweet Lucy last summer due to renal failure, and I still miss her every day. Big Hugs to you, and know that I'll be praying that Minky can turn around.

So sorry to hear about Minky. He's a lucky doggy to have such a caring mom. Sending happy thoughts to your family!

I so hope the fluids will help Minky feel a little better. :grouphug: Hugs for you and yours. It's very hard to see a pet suffer and even harder to make decisions on how to proceed from here. :flower3:
