this is sort of inspired by the job thread.
i'm j/w what minimum wage is where you live.
do you get paid minimum wage? do you think it's fair/enough?

here it's $9.50 and it's going up to $10.25 in march
if you're under 18 it's currently $8.90 going up to $9.60

i think it'd really fair here, it's gone up from $7.50 in the past few years so I definitely think it's really fair. :thumbsup2

It's only $7.25 here, I believe. Fortunately, most people (retail, food, like that) around here pay a little more than that.

....except the Disney College Program. Which I'm sure would pay kids like $5/hour if they could.

tn doesn't have a min wage law, meaning we adhear to the fed. law. min wage for untipped positions is 7.25, tipped positions is 2.13.

i hate it, it is not possible to live on that salary.

and then take 4.50 away from you.

I think minimum wage in RI is around $7.50. At my job I get paid $8 and hour if I'm hostess, and then $2.89 an hour when I'm a server. It kinda sucks to have worked about 40 hours and get a pay check for $100, but you really make it up in tips.

NH adheres to Federal minimum wage laws, so ours is $7.25.

I make $8/hour working full-time non-tipped over the summer and $6.50/hour plus tips part-time/full-time over breaks in the winter.

I found a really good job and I don't intend to give it up any time soon.

:scared1: $2.89! zoinks!
Servers here get paid around $7 ish I think. The min wage here for people who serve alcohol (bartenders & such) is $8.20 my sister did that over the summer and made THOUSANDS because of her paychecks + tips on top. I need to get a job like that.

Yeah $2.89 isn't fun. Especially when I only work a shift every so often because I'm at school. So I get a paycheck for $13 for an 7 hour shift.

I believe minimum wage here is 8.25. Which I believe is a good number, but I get paid a good bit more than that and my wage itself always goes up when minimum wage does.
My friends works at Sobeys, and every 400 hours they get a 25 cent increase... let's just say he gets paid more than I do and I'm in a supervisor position.

Caitlin ... are tips considered taxable income in Canada?

Here in the states it's taxable income, and your employer has to guesstimate the amount of your tips and add that to your wage statement. And then you have to pay taxes on that when you file your income tax form.

ya it's the same here as well. (i didn't know i had to go google it hahah)
i've never had a job like that so i'm not sure if they put it on a paystub or just the yearly T4 (which is a tax form thing). i'm not entirely sure how that works, but according to google tips are taxable income.

It's $7.25 here. I was paid $7.00 last year at my job (what it was then) and then $7.30 this year.

Not enough money.

In Washington the minimum wage is $8.55 with no exceptions, it's the highest in the country I believe which will be nice once I turn 16 and get a job.

In Illinois, its $8 and it will go up to $8.25 on July 1st.
I get paid $8.60/hour plus tips. The tips are from the tip jar at the register so it gets divided up based on the number of hours you worked that week. During the school year thats an extra $10 for me every two weeks and during the summer its anywhere from $20-40 depending on how good people are about tipping and how much I've worked. My tips get taxed and I hate it. That's the part I don't see as fair, but whatever. I've got a job so I can't really complain.
As for min wage, its decent I guess. You can't live off of it working 40 hours a week though. A few people at my work try to, they have second jobs just to make ends meet...

$7.21 here in FL going up to $7.25(Woohoo! 4 pennies more).Disney will be paying me slightly more than that though.

I actually believe minimum here is $7.24 an hour, everyone just puts it at $7.25 unless they changed it. When I first started working in 2007 minimum wage was 6.67, and I worked my way up to 7.25 through raises, then they changed minimum wage so it looks like I am just barely making it, after working with a company for two years. It looks so bad on resumes, but there is nothing I can do about it.

i am VERY jealous. i make $7.25/hr and it sucks. because half the time i only get 6 hours a month. :headache: but luckily i'm getting a lot of hours in december.. :upsidedow
