Minimum stay question

I feel like a complete ding dong. We have a 2-night room-only ressie for T'Giving and the following night at POR. I really wanted to do a split stay and do the first part of our trip at the Cabins. I've been trying to get a cabin with no luck (I check every day online). Just for fun I extended the dates to include our whole trip and voila! there IS a cabin available. So I called to ask why I couldn't get it for just the 24th and 25th. Was told there is a 4-night minimum at that time. Really??? I have had no less that 4 conversations with different CMs about getting a ressie there those nights, and NO ONE has mentioned a minimum stay. Grrr......

Anyway, here's my question. If there is still availability as we get closer (it's next week already :woohoo:), is there ANY chance they'd let us stay 2 nights if the cabin will sit empty otherwise?

Thanks!

many holidays and other peak season time periods do require a minimum stay.

as for the cabin sitting empty: highly unlikely.

I've run into that problem before and I have booked for the minimum required days and changed the check out date when we arrived. I've never had another reservation at the same time though, we just left early.

Ooh, I wish I could do that!

So, you think at the last minute, someone will book it? Or will they upgrade someone, or what? Seems like it's awfully short notice (9 days) to be making new ressies.

Not saying that this is the case here, but it's common in the hotel business in general to have minimum stays during holiday periods.

Also very common to black out certain arrival/departure days once a certain level of check-ins or check-outs is reached. Only so many rooms can be serviced and made ready for new guests on any particular day. Of course there is a little leeway (rooms not ready early, later check-ins, etc.) but there is a limit that the front desk or housekeeping can handle and properly do their jobs. So you may not see a one or two night stay open, but see availability for longer stays.

So long as there won't be change fees (and there shouldn't be with a room only reservation), book the extended stay. Call back and drop the nights you don't need. It's been a while since I've done this, so I don't know if the rules have changed, but I've done it before without a problem.
