I think the current minimum to purchase from Disney is 160 points.

But what if you start off by buying resale? Can you buy a 50 or 60 point add-on contract through resale as a first purchase? I saw someone mention that they wanted to start out by buying only enough for a five days in a studio. Can they do that?

However, just remember, buying resale, you are going to pay a flat commission and the fewer points you buy, the more cost per point it is actually costing you.

I think you probably mean closing costs rather than commission. The SELLER pays commission to the broker (if applicable), not the buyer.

All details of a resale purchase are negotiable, but most have the buyer paying closing costs. Closing costs don't vary much by the size of the contract. So, you could pay $400 to close on a 25-pt contract ($400 / 25 = $8 per point) compared to $500 on a 250-pt contract (500 / 250 = $2 per point.)

Just adding to the other posts-

It seems that the smaller contracts do go for a premium (as measured in $/point). Disney seems to exercise ROFR more frequently if the prosepective buyer of a small contract is not already a DVC member. I also believe there is more demand for the smaller contracts than for the larger ones.

The smallest DVC contract available on the resale market is 25 points. That's because 25 points is the minimum add on contrac that Disney will sell.
