Minimum age to do the dessert party alone?

I am taking my DDs (10 and 4) and DD's friend to WDW in January. Older DD absolutely loves the SW Dessert party and wants to take her friend to experience it. The issue is that little DD can't reach the tables, so she ended up sitting on the floor last time. I'd probably just take the little one do to a QS dinner and some rides while the older girls did the party. Would this be allowed?

Where is this stated? I have never seen a policy for dining events. I know that the policy to enter a park alone, but this sounds like the parent will be in the same park.

I think I would call and ask. I was thinking it was 14 but can't find that referenced anywhere in writing.

Just curious ... did you try booking it for them? Wondering if the system will even allow you to do it, I tried once and it required me to have someone 18+ booked as well. If not I would call and book via the CM and be honest about their ages. I would hate for them to put it through as an adult only to show up and be refused because you are not staying, especially with a prepay.

It's at 6:30, so while it's dark, it's not exactly a late night affair. I am sure they will be spending time roaming around the parks together after that time, so to me, it doesn't matter much if it's to ride Tower of Terror or to eat some dessert

I would think since liquor is freely served that Disney would require an adult with the party- I'd personally be hesitant to have my kids potentially near other party guests 'getting their money's worth' which I have seen happen there.

You may be able to register them but I'd prepare for issues on check in & event start as I think you'll find very few CMs that would feel comfortable having young kids unaccompanied at an event with food & liquor for a myriad of reasons.

I am aware of that, but she is talking about 2 10 year old, that doesn't fall under this, correct? Also, it doesn't say anything about dining.

Let me see, two unaccompanied 10 year old kids, after dark, at a party. It doesn't seem at all like riding Tower of Terror to me. And it doesn't seem like a good idea to me, either.

There are some tables just outside the party entrance that are near some benches. Get there early and you can claim one of those tables and benches. You and your younger one can have a base there and still be able to keep an eye on your older girl and her friend. There's so many little ones who do attend the party but I do think you'll want the peace of mind being there. Maybe give the girls freedom to go see Chewie or Kylo on their own after they're done eating. They'll probably also get to sit up toward the front for the fireworks. My 10 year old ended up meeting several boys at the party and sat with them the whole time outside. It's so nice to see another parent wanting to give their child a taste of freedom, though!

What do you feel could happen?


My friends and I had the run of (what was then called) Marriott's Great America all day without parents starting at 10 and ending at park close. It was awesome. And from what we know factually (vs our knowledge of things we never would have heard of before, which makes it seem scarier) the world is safer now than it was then.

I tried to book it with two 11 year olds ("Disney adults") just now it wouldn't let me. Someone in my MDE over 18 had to be the "primary contact" leaving only 1 spot open for a 2 person reservation.

I just visited the parks with two newly 11 year old girls (it was my daughters birthday) and I gave them a lot of freedom, and if Disney allowed I would send them to a "party" on their own, however it appears to not be possible.

I was just sharing what is posted online, there's no written policy on dining experiences but as some have pointed out it won't let you book unless someone over 18 is booked as primary

Other dessert party threads have noted that names don't have to match up with the actual party-goers.

Perhaps @FastPasser knows if Disney Events requires an adult to accompany children under age 18.

Just to clarify someone only has to be 14 to enter and exit the park alone. Once inside the park anyone over 7 is allowed ot be alone or they wouldn't be allowed to enter ride lines and ride alone. Under 7 needs someone at least 14.

To the OP when we went to the SW party there were some shorter tables. Our night they were all set aside for guests with disabilities (which didn't seem to be normal it was one very vocal family about requiring seating even though Disney says there is no guaranteed seats) so perhaps that would work for the 4 year old if those are available? We actually ate our desserts on the tables outside the dessert party area but still close enough and inside.

i'm confused here. the young child she says is not gonig to be at the party and never mentions the age of the daughters friend that is visiting with them. I'm pretty sure we're talking 2 10 year olds at the party alone and mom+4 year old will be off doing other things. Did I read this wrong?

I honestly don't know disney's policy when it comes to parties and age to do them alone. As mentioned they are old enough to be around the parks on their own after an adult gets them into the park in the first place. You know your child better than us and how they would act at a desert party that might have someone just leaving alcohol on the table they could "borrow".

I would guess that the website doesn't allow this because Disney wants to be able to hold an adult financially responsible for the reservation.

The park rules are written such that it's a request that you supervise children at all times, but it is mandatory to accompany children under 14 "to enter the park." The rules don't talk about what is/isn't required after you enter the park, except for when it comes to boarding rides (and that does not apply to the OP's question). As far as just being in the park after the entry process, they use "please," which is different from "must." I agree with PPs that it's up to the OP to determine whether these girls are mature enough to attend the party unsupervised. As @HopperFan suggested, the OP could also try calling and telling the CM their ages, and see if they allow it (perhaps by having the OP booked as one of the "attendees" but then having both girls attend while the OP takes the other daughter to do something else).
