Minimum age for charging?

For our upcoming June trip we would like to give magic band charging privileges to our DD9. She gets a kick out of "paying" for meals and treats and usually has us remove our MB so she can tap and enter the PIN. Thought it would be easier to skip that step and let her do it all herself. Is this allowed or is she too young?

I don't think their is an age minimum but once you turn it on you are authorizing her to always have charging privileges not just at dinner or when you are there. That means you really have to trust that she will ask before using. My nephew spent 100 bucks with out asking on bottles of water and candy when he had charging privileges and my brother in law didn't find out until they checked out of the hotel.

I agree with the PP. There is no set minimum age, but you have to trust that she won't abuse the privilege. Being that she's just 9, it's likely she will be with an adult wherever she goes so that may not be a concern for you. When she gets older and has a little freedom to be on her own, you'll need to either set up clear guidelines on what she's allowed to charge or restrict charging altogether.

About two years ago, the resort CM told us NO to having charging on our then 7 year olds magic band. She said they did not put charging privileges on children's Magic band. Now Im not sure what age they use to define "children". DS was never out of our sight and loved it when we used our MB to charge so we were safe and fine with him using it but it would be so easy for a kid to abuse. Hey, it's easy for ME to abuse. I do know when our older DS was little, his card DID have charging on it because when he was really little, we would hand him his card to "pay" for dinner every night. He loved that. We never requested it,it was just there.

At the very least they might define it as anyone using a child ticket (9 and under).

Years ago when it was the plastic room key, my daughter would always pull out her key to pay. We never had any problem, if it was a sitdown meal she knew I had to add tip and sign but as far as swiping it at stores, counter service, and sit down meals they were always able to use her key. She got a kick saying this is on me. The wait staff would ham it up and always made her feel special that she was paying...yep it bumped up their tip too. BTW she started when she was 9....She's now 22 and takes me to lunch all the time and she pays!!

We let all our kids last year have charging privileges- the older one also had some freedom to go to parks alone if rest of us hung at pool (which she LOVED when we stayed at EPCOT-the CM's in France must have known her by sight-but she is frugal by nature and we could trust her not to run up big bill). The 9 year old got a kick out of "paying" for his drinks or snacks at the pool (of course one of us adults was always with him) but it was fun for him and the middle to order and pay by themselves.

I know that when we used dining plan last trip, grandson aged 4 years had dining plan on his ticket card before bands. he spent most of trip with us while he was on moms room ressie. could not charge at stores but could use meal and snack credits so I assume it would same with bands

Not a problem - they do have to know the PIN. We usually use gift cards to pay but at times it is easier to let the kid use her magic band.

When I gave DS charging privledges last trip (Jan), they asked me if I wanted to set a limit. I don't recall if it was a daily limit or a trip limit but it can be done.

We've put it on kiddo's since she was 5. It's never been an issue. Letting her pay at QS and other shops keeps her motivated to wait in lines successfully. She likes making the reader light up green and to push the buttons for the PIN.

When we checked into POR a couple of years ago, the CM asked if I wanted charging enabled on my then-3yo's MB. He had already been eying the gift shop, and we all had a good laugh about how much fun he would have with that.

So I think it can be enabled on any band, as long as they know the pin.
