Looking for ideas for things to do along the east coast. Thinking about long weekends (Fri-Mon), short trips (Wed-Sun), stuff like that.

Looking at:
Williamsburg, VA
Washington, DC
Mystic, CT

How long would we conceivably need in those places?

Open for any other suggestions. We're currently in NJ.

Thanks in advance.

My DH and I did a 3 day weekend in DC and LOVED it!!! There is so much to see and at night the whole place looks so pretty! I wouldn't go for anything less than 3 full days, that way you don't have to rush around like a mad person and can just relax and take it all in. If you pick DC, go to Barnes and Noble get a pop up map. They are pocket size and pop out to show you a map of the whole area. They rock!!!! You can check them out here:http://www.mapeasy.com/prod_polist.html

Baltimore and Lancaster are nice long weekend trips.

Baltimore is a possibility. Lancaster -- I dunno -- I went there a lot as a kid and hated it. It'll probably just be me and DSalmost15.

What's in Baltimore that's teen friendly, besides the aquarium?

We've down Williamsburg a couple of times and really enjoyed it. Williamsburg can be done in a long weekend without a problem.

I see a trip to AC in my future, but I can't bring DS -- nothing for him to do there.

Didn't think of that. How about NYC. Tons to do and seel

Love Mystic!! Probably b/c we lived in the area for 17 years while DH was in the Submarine Service. At the Base itself, in Groton, you can tour the submarine museum and also the Nautilus, which is the first nuclear powered submarine. Across the river in New London is the Coast Guard Academy and if the Eagle is in (CG Training Tall Ship) it's really it's a very pretty site. You used to be able to tour the grounds as well. In Mystic they have a wonder aquarium and also Mystic village which is a group of quaint shops. Down the road is the Mystic seaport which takes you back to the old days of fishing villages and also has a tall ship. In Mystic proper there is a drawbridge and also some more quaint shops. Check out the southeastern CT COC for additional info. I'm sure you'll have a great time wherever you decide to go!

NYC is more of a day trip thing. I'm looking for long weekend type things.

We were going to head into NYC right before Christmas, but it didn't work out. I think we'll do that some Saturday in the spring.

Let me know when!! We can meet there :thumbsup2

There is enough to do and see in NYC to last you a weekend easily. WE live very close and take the kids on weekend trips throughout the year. http://www.baltimore.org/

Baltimore has much to offer.
Harborplace
Aquarium
Museums
IMAX
Science Center
Zoo
Camden Yards - Catch a game or just take a tour.

Baltimore Port turns 300 this year and there will be festivities to celebrate.
Have a meal at Little Italy and walk around Fell's Point - http://www.fellspoint.us/

Williamsburg Virginia is great too! We love it and Busch Gardens being there is the reason. Beautiful park. I just HATE that drive!

Have a great time wherever you decide to go.:)

What is it about the drive that you hate? Is it the distance? Traffic? I ask because I'll be the one driving and it's like 6-1/2 hours. I don't like driving in unfamiliar territory, so it's kind of making me panic a little. I'm sure I'd survive it though... :confused3

It wasnt a confusing drive, directions we had were great, it was LONG and we hit traffic on the way home that we sat in for over 3 hours! Its about an 8 hour drive for us normally.
