mini pinscher dog

Thinking about getting a mini pinscher.Does anyone have one of these dogs? What can you tell me about them and are they good with kids? I have heard they are hard to train.

Very high strung and I heard difficult to housebreak also. The ones I've been around are friendly ,but never seen them around kids.

My grandmother has one. Ripper is VERY high strung, not very friendly and has severe allergies! I love dogs but I would pass on this particular breed.

i dont know anything about these dogs but one thats good for kids is a lab or golden retriever. we have a lab and i absolutly adore him!! he was a really good dog and friendly to our other shelties that we had. good ol' sammy!! i wouldnt trade him for the world.

My Dad has a "min pin" who is a great dog but VERY high strung- he barks, growls, and snaps at everybody but my Dad. This includes my nephews- several people I konow that have had them have said that they lovey love theirs but that they are not always the best family pets around either kids or other animals.

Thanks for your honest replies. Im glad I asked for opinions because the one we saw today seemed so gentle and had a nice temperment. However, it is a puppy and still very small so I guess I shouldnt make a judgement based on that. This is a pet for DD, who is almost 9, so I need a kid friendly dog!
Guess we will keep looking!

Pugs are great with children. But I would only recommend if you intend to keep him inside and treat him as part of the family. They have very flat faces and do not do well in the heat. They are very much people dogs.

Whatever you choose, please consider a rescue organization in your area.
