Mini lights in windows

Can anyone tell me how they successfully put mini lights in the window. I ask this because when i try to put them in my bay window for the holidays they always fall down, no matter what type of tape i use. Also, they do not lie flat and twist when i try to decorate with them. If anyone has any tips i would appreciate it. Walking in the neighborhood, some windows look so great with the lights, they are evenly spaced and do not appear to twist. Thanks so much

How do you store your lights after the holidays?? That can help with the twisting. I always fold them back up the way they came, rather than trying to roll them onto a paper towel tube or something. After a couple years, they unravel very nicely.

As far as hanging goes, I staple a twist tie to the window and then twist it around the light strand. It's much much easier than freaking out about stapling through the electrical wire. For hanging icicle lights on the roof, I just tack in a short nail to the beam and hang them on that. You do have to do it about every 6" but it's much easier to put up and take down the lights. If you hang it from the underside of the beam, you can leave the nails up year round. I never have a problem with sagging.

Last year I bought a bunch of those scotch command adhesive hooks and used those to put up the lights and garlands around my windows. I think I used 4 of them across the width of each window (like 60"), and it looked fine.

I like the pp idea of stapling the twist tie to the window and twisting it around the light string even better.

I actually tape each light around the window. For some reason the tops of the window are harder, it doesn't seem to stick as well as the rest. It takes a long time, but it works. I know they sell these plastic frames that you put in the window. They have grooves in them to put each light. I think I saw it on QVC years ago.
