Those are pretty much the measurements of the Canon I ordered. I hadn't seen the Sony Sony DCR-IP5 or I would have considered it. The current camcorder I have is a Sony and I've never had a problem with it, but it just gets kind of heavy by the end of the day. I was looking for one that like you said would fit in my fanny pack along with my digital camera.

not sure about cannon
we have always gotten the sony's but the reason we have
this little is our last sony broke at disneyworld and we had
to get a new one, so cant say sony is any more reliable...
