Looking for a smaller backup but one that would hold a water bottle on the side...doesn't look like the loungefly's can do this. Any suggestions??

There are many backpack threads on this board with a lot of helpful information. Doing a search of titles with 'backpack' in the name might be helpful until others share here.

We like the Vera Bradley backpack. It's technically full size, but it's their soft quilted material so it doesn't feel big and bulky.

Kankens are a great option. They can hold a slimline waterbottle on each side of the bag also.

It's a sling, not a backpack, but I like the Kavu Paxton pack. Not overly large, but spacious enough and has a bottle pocket on the side. I like slings in the park. For many rides you don't even end up having to take it off. Just sling it around to the side or front while sitting.

The Loungefly mini backpacks will not hold water bottles on the side. It's hard to even get a piece of paper into them. They are pretty much there for decoration. You might be able to get a small water bottle inside of the backpack though. The large Loungefly backpacks are much bigger.

I have this convertible bag from Lug. They call it a mini but it’s bigger than a Loungefly mini. It can be used as a handheld tote, a crossbody bag, or a backpack. It has side pockets that will hold a water bottle, soda bottle, mini umbrella, etc. There are lots of pockets, a wipeable plastic bottom, it’s water resistant and it also has a trolley sleeve.

My current backpack. I was looking for something lightweight when my trip was originally planned for August. It is basically just one big pocket and one small zip pocket. The straps are pretty comfortable no matter how full I've filled it so far. It is not structured, cotton fabric.

I've been carrying it as a daily bag back and forth to work, and did take it on a long weekend trip where I knew I wouldn't need it to carry a whole days worth of stuff. The side pockets will hold a slimline water bottle (my is a Hydroflask Trail series, also very lightweight but tall) but I haven't tried an umbrella yet.

So far I like it as an option for small and convenient but I'm not sure I would use it as a daypack on every kind of trip.

What else do you want to carry in the backpack?

I bought a Chico Bottle Sling a few years ago. It holds my 24oz water bottle and my phone and ID/credit cards.
