Minecraft for xbox help needed

While this may be an option, this is not the only way to play Minecraft. Last Xmas I purchased the 4GB Xbox 360 (no Kinect) with a Minecraft game (a disc just like any other game...currently $20 in the video game case at Walmart) for DS8 (now almost 10). We do not have the internet at home, so while he cannot connect online with friends, he can play and save his worlds. The 4GB has been more than sufficient for Minecraft, Skylanders (3 versions), Infinity and a TMNT game. His worlds are saved when he exits and he enjoys the full functionality of all of the games. I do take it to my mom's house and connect it to her internet every 6 months or so to get the updates.

We are getting the internet installed right after Xmas and he will get a Gold subscription as a bday present but just wanted you to know that it is possible to play offline and still retain all of their progress.

Thanks for the clarification. I was worried that we made a mistake in purchasing the game for Xbox.

We also have the 4GB version with Kinect, we've had it for 2 years now. No XBOX Gold membership (we tried it for 3 months or so and found it unnecessary for our needs). My kids play Minecraft, Disney Infinity, the Disneyland game and a variety of other games with no problems at all. It suits our needs just fine :)

DS has both Xbox and the PC version of Minecraft. Him and his friends MUCH prefer the PC version for playing Minecraft than Xbox. The Xbox is now only used for games like Fifa. He does have Gold so he can play with his friends. He's downstairs in the basement for hours on his computer playing the PC version. He tells me it's MUCH better than the Xbox version. Of course, the best one is one that your friends are on so you can play together.......

Perfect! I did go pick up a used kinect sensor and 3!kinect games for a mere $25. Score!

Thanks everyone for your input. I feel like I have enough understanding to make a good decision and after much consideration I'm going to get the card for the PC version. Really all she wants to do is play Minecraft so I don't see a reason to buy the xbox, even a used one, when we have 2 desktops she can use. She does have a old (handed down) laptop. But I don't think it will meet the system requirements.

I don't even think you need a card for it. I thought the cards were to purchase on the x-box. DS has had his PC account for 4 years now and we just purchased it right off the Minecraft site.

You can purchase it right from the Minecraft site, but you can also buy a subscription card anywhere gaming cards are sold (game stop, target, walmart, etc...) for those folks who do not want to use a credit card and/or do not want children having access to said credit card to buy a game. It works either way.

BTW, my sons also have every version. Pocket edition on their phones, playstation and PC. They play the PC version the most.

regards
