Min. Points on OKW/SSR Direct Contract With Cash

I understand this thread isn’t about blue card minimum but since I saw info that I thought was incorrect I didn’t want others to pick up something that was not accurate.

For some weird reason, it's incredibly hard to be both accurate and succinct when talking about it. I know everytime I try to clean up, what I will be the first to admit is a muddy topic, I still end up with a post that loses even me halfway through. I think its the confluence of the 125 point minimum purchase through Disney direct and the 125 point minimum for the Blue Card, with 25 points and 50 points added in for good measure. If you look back, I think I've edited almost all of my earlier posts at least once to try and use clearer, less repetetive language.

I think early on I wasn't clear that I knew you needed 125 points, purchased directly from Disney, to qualify for a Blue Card. In my original quest, I had been tryting to verify what the minimum point increments for purchasing directly from Disney actually were, both as a non-member because my first resale contract hasn't gone through yet, and once I become a member. My original post was meant to bring attention to some misinformation on another website, information that didn't match what a DVC Guide told me directly, and things went downhill from there. Way downhill.

No worries at all. Threads in forums are living, breathing things. You will get what you are looking for and more. After many years of forums of different kinds I have gotten used to the side routes within threads. Things will circle back to the original question or thought. Off topic can totally disrupt a thread at times but it is rare for that to happen IMO. Just skim through the post and find the ones answering your exact questions. Or read them all and maybe learn something new. Both approaches work fine. Most importantly try to have thick skin and have fun with it. This is the absolute best place on the web for DVC info.

At one point in 2020, the blue card amount and the minimum amount were different for a few resorts.

In October, it changed but it wasn’t made clear from DVD either. They only really publicized that the minimum for new members was 125 to qualify for perks, but never actually said the minimum purchase for all resorts was going up.

Over the years, even when the official minimum for new members was 100 points, there were reports that people got DVD to sell them less, even though it wasn’t published,

So, it makes perfect sense that things are confusing!

I agree.
It is very confusing from Disney on the minimum to purchase an add on versus purchasing as a new member.
I tried to purchase less than 125 as a new member and I was told NO multiple times.
Now that I have a small contract, I can add on 25+ easily it seems?

Yes, it would appear that even armed with nothing more than a 25 point contract at Vero Beach, bought through resale, you are now free to buy in on an add-on contract at VGC for as little as 25 points. Which would get you about 15 minutes in a studio bathroom (allowing you time to clean it yourself after using it). Lol.

A bit of an exaggeration, but the difference in purchasing minimums and privileges is dramatic.

This is from the DVC Vacation Points overview FAQ:
"Add On To Your Membership
You may decide that you need a larger ownership interest and access to more Vacation Points for years to come. If so, your Vacation Club Guide will be happy to walk you through the process of purchasing an additional ownership interest and Adding On Vacation Points.
Please note that a minimum of 25 Vacation Points for cash purchases and 50 Vacation Points for financed purchases (for qualified buyers) is required for an additional Ownership Interest."

We considered HHI, OKW but ended up with SSR as this is our home resort. This contract as a whole was something like 4482., for 25 points including the lovely low closing costs of 357.??. We were on a very short waitlist. Our guide Ricardo is very low pressure and always wicked responsive. The maintenance fees will be pro rated and billed to us sometime next month. Which leaves us wondering why on earth anyone would go with a 25 pt resale contract with some of the current resale prices and high closing costs.
I am buying a 25 pt resale at HHI at the moment.
I am saving 1k versus direct:
Resale- 2900 (2020 pts included)
Direct: 3900
