Have I been living in a hole?
What happened to AirTran with direct flights to Orlando
First we lost MidWest Express when Frontier bought them out.
They promised and promised they would stay-Frontier flies from Milwaukee to Denver to Orlando.

AirTran used to be a good bargain with direct flights, now every flight lands for sure in Atlanta or you get routed over to Baltimore.

DELTA is trying to get more flights in and out of Milwaukee, but their prices are still rather high.

The only one left is Southwest and I feel like they are such a cattle calling airline. I know many of you love them-I "dislike" them. That was the safest word I could use.

Southwest bought AirTran. They are moving over AirTran flights to Southwest, it will be complete by the end of next year. They are sending the AirTran 717's to Delta at a rate of 3 a month and repainting the AirTran 737's to Southwest. So AirTran will then be no more.

Southwest has changed their boarding procedures and they no longer resemble the cattle calling airline . With the new procedure not only don't you have to wait in line to get a boarding number (you can now get that on-line) but you can sit in your seat in the gate area and wait until your boarding group is boarding. Heck you can even board without standing in line, just board after you group of 30 have boarded.

Really, I guess I have been not paying attention. I sure hope DELTA picks up more direct flights to Orlando after they acquire those planes.

They are planning to use them to replace the smaller regional jets.

You are caught in the same spot as we are in Pittsburgh. There's not enough local traffic to support multiple airlines on the same route. Especially a leisure route like Orlando.

We loved Midwest, and really miss them!! We much prefer MKE over ORD! We tried Frontier, but I never felt they were a stable presence in MKE.

AirTran is still flying out of MKE once or twice a day direct to MCO, so you can still use them for at least another year....

While we loved Midwest, we tolerate SW because it works the best for us right now. The seating process is very civilized, and while I prefer to have assigned seats, it's not that big of a deal.

AirTran had the smallest seat space I'd ever seen on any airline. Now that Southwest bought them, are they just using the same planes with the same tiny seats and zero leg room? Flying out of MKE tomorrow on a Southwest flight provided by AirTran and I'm hoping my knees don't get crushed when the guy in front of me reclines his seat. :)

Sorry, but an AirTran flight will be on an AirTran plane. I've got long legs, and I also hate when I get reclined into!!

When the AirTran planes get the Southwest paint scheme they also get the Southwest interiors and seats. As long as they are in AirTran colors they are operated by AirTran and have the AirTran seats.

Southwest is the only airline I could find with non-stop flights to MCO or TPA out of MKE. My advice would be to spend the extra $12.50 per person for the early bird boarding so you can choose your seats. We flew to LGA a couple weeks ago and were in the B boarding group and the first row still had 2 seats available with that lovely leg room!
