Millionaire attraction to close at Studios (Orlando Sentinel Article)

Well, now if they would only cancel the TV show as well.........

I feel that this "discussion" has reached its end and therefore have deleted all of the posts which are not directly related to the Orlando Sentinel article. I am the new kid on the block and I assure you I don't have any favorites. I posted the Orlando Sentinel article as information for readers of this board, not to start a war of words between members.

We spend a great deal of time at WDW, and we literally never see a line there any more. At one time you could not get near the place. Things change, and they have to change these things as they become less popular. We loved Horizons at Epcot, but for the last few years before they closed it, there were never lines at the pavilion. Let's hope that they do a good job in replacing it with something real exciting and interesting. {just not another Mission Space type attraction, thank you}........

When they moved the fast pass machines to the stunt show, they moved the line inside where the fast pass people used to wait. Ofter the entire room is full before the admit people to the attraction. With the new system, they do not have standby line up outside where they are now doing the narnia display.

I was at WDW last a couple of months ago and the attractions was close to full on a number of shows. This was over the easter weekend and so the parks were crowded but the shows were mostly full inside.

I am going to miss this attraction. It is the only attraction of its kind at WDW. The ride that replaces it will be similar to other disney rides while this attraction was unique.

I'm so sad to hear this! We only found this attraction on our last vacation (last year) and we loved it!!! dh is going to be upset - he was determined to get into the hot seat this year. :sad2:

The last time we went to see the show CM's were outside literally begging people to come in. Inside was embarassingly "empty". The first time we ever saw it there was a huge line outside.
So I agree it's probably outlived it's day in the sun and Disney needed to replace it.

Don't worry, the new ride will be very unique using cutting edge technology(some of which comes from Tokyo's Monsters Inc) as WDW gets its version of Midway Madness(3D interactive ride).

This they get rid of, but Drew Carey "Sounds Dangerous" still stays? :confused3 I think I WILL write a letter!

DH and I will really miss this attraction, my neck was out one time and this was the only attraction I could go to. We have the hats pins and golf shirts, I guess they`ll become collectors items now....

Exactly what we found this July as well. There were lines for the very weak "Narnia" but CM's were begging people to come in for the show. After talking with a few CM's I was not surprised to hear that "Narnia" would have been removed already but since the crowds keep coming for it, it works better than planned diversions--like the characters coming out or sending "streetmasphere" out.
The shows we atteded were not at the same time (ie: before lunch, after lunch, etc.,) but they were less than half full and it was VERY crowded in teh parks.

I would think Sounds Dangerous is on life support too.
I hope so! Now there's a whole building that could be turned into something fun!

On the one hand I have no problem with it closing. I think it was a quick attempt to cash in on a fad. Much like the overscheduling of the show on the network.

But on the other hand, MGM, like AK, is still quite a few attractions away from being what should be considered a "full" Disney park. Some additions are in order, not just replacements. (That's assuming the replacement really does come to fruition)

Aren't they kind of crammed or is there plenty of space?

Well, the layout is terrible, but beyond that...

I've heard some argue there isn't space to expand, but I don't really buy that. There's always a way.

Besides, if they built the place on a spot that doesn't even given them the option of expanding beyod its current size, that would have to go down as one of the dumbest moves ever.

They had no experience with how the public would react to such a relatively small park. Boxing themselves into something no bigger than what we see today would be limiting their options down the road.

But like I said, where there's a will...

Again, I disagree. WWTBAM-PI was unique among WDW attractions. There are plenty of rides but this was the only attraction that gave you the feel of a game show.

Can MGM call itself a studio after this attraction is close? This sounds like it will be a violation of the laws against deceptive adversting in that the name studio implies that there is some actual production. Once WWTBAM=PI closes, there will be no production at MGM and so the name studio will not be appropriate

Pssst. Hey. Don't tell anybody, but just between you and me, the park hasn't been a studio for a long time.

We wouldn't want that to get out though, so let's keep that under the proverbial BAH.

Seriously though, even if we disagree on the value of this particular attraction, my main point is that they should be looking for ways to fill the park out, rather than just replacing current attractions.

I heard from a friend who was there for the last day. It was standing room only with a completely filled waiting room filled (and the show being shown on the monitors) and people standing on the platform behind the seats for the last show. They actually extended the show to let one more contestant get on the hot seat (due to the goodbyes only one person had been on the hot seat when the buzzer went off). The host asked and the control crew relented. Evidently the walk way was full of Disney executives who watched the last couple of shows.

One last person made it to the 64,000 question and got another shirt.

I am sad that the show is over.

I was at the last shows. Many of the previous hosts stepped out for recognition at the final show. You could tell they were sad to see their attraction go, but still kept their humor. One of the last people in the hot seat was a three-year old girl (whose mother was in the hot seat not an hour earlier...grumble grumble). The host asked who her favourite character was to which she replied "Buzz." Without missing a beat, the host quipped "Well, that's nice. He's probably going to be in the attraction that's replacing me." Very good, though low-scoring shows. Very high energy. Sad to see it come and go...

Oh, my, thanks for a glimpse at the last few shows. My whole family will miss it. :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:
