My family and I were on a package holiday from the UK for two weeks over Christmas and New Year (Caribbean Beach resort) 1999 - so we were there for the actuall 1999/200 NYE.

We were all given a wonderful gift of Mickey Mouse, cut by laser in glass and made by Arribas Brothers. It was in a large wooden box and had gloves to touch it. All very lovely.

We have not been able to find out any information on how many of these were made and distributed, does anybody know?

Thanks

I don't have mine handy at the moment, but I thought that there was an edition size somewhere on it or in the box it came in.

Just out of curiousity, when did your family make the reservations for that trip? I recall my dad calling a number of years in advance to make reservations for the big 2000 turn, but was just short of laughed at and told the entire resort was booked up for that NYE long before, but they didn't say how long before. I've always been curious.

Hi

We put our names down with Virgin Holidays about 1 year before the brochure came out. All in all I think it was 18 months before. A very long lead time but it was the flights that were the problem. Actually on December 31st we were in Epcot and I was sitting next to a lady on the bus back who'd only booked two weeks before as she'd got a cancellation.

Was brilliant though.

2 weeks really surprises me. Wonder if she was on a waiting list before that. We booked the week after Thanksgiving 1998. Came across an ad in the newspaper from a travel agent with a block of rooms at ASM.

I have that gift as well. I know that there was a really difficult time getting reservations over the Millennium and many tour operators had a minimum number of nights required with a no refund cancellation policy on the rooms. I had a heck of a time getting a reservation, but finally managed to secure one.

Regarding the number made, I don't recall an exact count, but do know it was ONLY for those booked on a package reservation done specifically for the Millennium and you had to sign for it when you picked it up. I don't know where mine is at the moment to see if there was an edition size listed. I think they did end up with a few of these that were not picked up and if I remember correctly they were sold to cast members (but again, my memory of that is a bit foggy.)

JudySue and I had made our reservations in November 1992. Actually, it was not until February 1994 that we were able to get our entire 11 night block. We were in the Contemporary Tower with arrival December 23, 1999 and departure January 3, 2000.

Since our arrival was in Value Season, and at the time the Magic Kingdom Club discount was still available, we paid $208 per night for the entire stay.

I guess that since we were not on a package is the reason why we did not receive one of these special souveniers. But then of course we were not paying $485 per night, which was the rate in effect for people arriving December 26th or later.

I just checked- the edition size is 4500

Our package was to check in on 12/28/99 and out on 1/4/00. And a day or so before check out they offered us an extension at a really good rate. I couldn't stay, but my sister and her family took advantage of another day.

Wow, only 4500, that is a very small amount for such a wonderful collectable. I love the wooden box it's in, it's all lovely. Will have to take extra special care of it.
