If using DDP and DD or DS (both Disney adults) want to get a milkshake or smoothie with their meal (assuming the restaurant serves them),

1. Does it count as their drink, their dessert - or can they pick (soda and smoothie, milkshake and dessert)?

2. Does it matter if it is a CS or TS restaurant?

3. If it can count for either, could they get 2 (count as their drink and dessert)?

Never done DDP and just thinking about our options - we may share some meals and use some CS for late breakfast and some mid-afternoon to try to eat off peak hours since we are going around Easter.

1. Some places won't let you have smoothies as your drinks, mostly non disney owned restaurants. Most of disney owned restaurant we went to this past trip, allowed you have a smoothie as your drink( Narcoossee, Flying Fish, Coral Reef, Grand Floridian Cafe, Le Cellier) On top of ordering a smoothie, they allowed us to also order soda as well.

2. Not sure about counter service as we were on deluxe plan this time. Last time we did basic plan we only ordered soda or bottle water

3. We never asked, as one smoothie was usually enough for us. I hear that at WCC, you can have the milkshake as your drink and also order an additional one for dessert,

That would be pointless, as the WCC milkshakes are "bottomless" (i.e., free refills).

Disney owned TS restaurants seem to allow any drink that doesn't have a souvenir as the drink option for adult meals on the dining plan. This would include milk shakes and smoothies. If you order both a soft drink and a milk shake then the milk shake will be counted as the dessert option. If it's the only drink ordered then it'll count as the drink option.

The only CS locations that I can think of which have smoothies or milkshakes are resorts. While at one time resorts allowed these as the drink option for adult meals on the dining plan, this is no longer the case. Occasionally you'll hear of a cashier at Pop who will allow it but it's not supposed to be done. They can be used as the dessert option.

But when we went to Sci Fi, DH ordered a milkshake as his drink and a different milkshake as dessert.

At Main St Bakery, a smoothie counted as a drink option OR a snack credit.

At Mara (CS at resort) the smoothie only counted as a snack credit

My two dd's (27 and 7) went to WDW this past December. My oldest dd ordered a milkshake as a drink at SciFi and my dd7 took it from her. She ordered another one as her dessert. The last time we were there as a family was late November 2009 and SciFi let kids have shakes as their dessert (but served with their meal as a drink) but dd said they didn't this time.

My cousin's dh ordered a milkshake at 50's Prime Time Cafe as his drink - and then had another as his dessert.

I've ordered milkshakes/smoothies/virgin drinks as my beverage at Konas, 50's Prime Time, Sci Fi, Le Cellier, Whispering Canyon, Narcoosee, California Grill, Artist Point, Yachtsman, Flying Fish, and maybe a few other restaurants (and still got to order a dessert).

In the past I've also ordered a smoothie as my beverage at the Pepper Market, but the last two times I've been at CSR, they said it was no longer allowed.

Main St. Bakery no longer serves Smoothies/Milkshakes. The machines were changed over to Iced Coffee when I was there last year.
