my son purchased tickets for our vacation and is being discharged due to an accident. Will we still be able to use them or should he sell them on base?
I'm sorry for your son. If the discharge is before your vacation, then I'm pretty sure you will not be able to use them. He has to have an ID to activate them.
He has to be either active or retired to use them. Is it possible that even though he is being discharged he still has vacation so is still active until that runs out?
Thank you. It wasn't terribly serious, and it is kind of dumb that he can't get it taken care of by non military docs. A Marine with a perfect record being discharged is silly imo.
What kind of tickets did he buy? If they are the Armed Forces Salute tickets he will need a Valid ID to activate them. If the are Magic Your Way tickets then he won't need an ID because they do not need to be activated.
If he is being discharged, ask him if he will be using up his leave. If so he will have an ID until his discharge date while he could be on leave anywhere from 1-60 days.
If not then have him talk to the people where he bought the tickets (usually the MWR/ITT office). They may be able to refund his money or apply the balance toward a WYW ticket.

That is the way of the world. I lived through many downsize and expansions during my 20 years. When they are downsizing they look for any reason they can to force people out. One year I lost 2 of my 3 E-4's. They were not allowed to re-enlist. 2 years later the manpower folks were looking for E-4's because they were undermanned. Now where does that make any sense???
Will they collect his ID when he is discharged? If not, check the expiration date, it may be far enough out to be past your trip. Since he was active duty when he bought the tickets, I think its good faith for him to use them as long as he has an ID. Also, is he married? I'm pretty sure they don't collect spouse IDs so his wife would be able to activate the tickets with her ID. Sorry for your trouble--hope you have a good trip.
