Military rates question

We had to get our tickets this past August from the base that my son was assigned to. Got four 4-day park hopper tickets for $792. Called WDW and was told to go to his travel service center on his base to get the tickets:

You do have to buy them in advance in order to pre schedule fastpasses, but not all bases sell them. Mine here in CA doesn't stock them, they have to order them. For my last two trips this past year, I called Shades of Green and ordered them via phone and they mailed them to me because Shades mails actual tickets, not vouchers that need to be activated. Saves time.

Regardless, they are definitely available for purchase at the ticket booths at all the parks. In Florida, Disney charges sales tax on them (bases and Shades of Green do not). In California, at Disneyland, no tax is added because there is no sales tax on Disneyland's tickets, so I buy them at the ticket booths in CA for visiting friends and family all the time.

The phone CMs often give out the wrong info, never trust a call center CM when it comes to military tickets. You absolutely can buy them at any regular ticket window.

This is great to know! I didn't realize there was an option other than the voucher. We bought ours over the phone from Camp Pendleton last year, but they were on a five to six week shipping delay for 2017 tickets when I called to order last month. I needed them sooner for FP, so the rep at Pendleton referred me to the Naval MWR in Orlando. I purchased them over the phone on a Friday and they were delivered the next day. Very convenient, but I'll definitely be calling SOG next time!

Hi all,

We want to purchase tickets for some family members so they could join us on our trip in 5 weeks. I have compared the cost of the SoG tickets to the 2017 Salute to Service tickets & it looks like the Salute tickets are the way to go with a cost of $224 for a 5 day hopper. I have a few questions:

1) How much is tax? I wanted to just use one of my cash rewards cards to purchase the tickets once we're all there together, but if it would save me a lot of $ to just send them a check & have them buy them on base, I will do that. Anyone know if the Jacksonville, FL navy base has them?

2) Is the price for the tickets the same for all ages? It's 2 adults & a 3 yo

3) Is it more affordable to stay at SoG or at a value resort with the military discount?

I am open to any other advice/suggestions anyone wants to offer.

Thanks you so much to all of you who have served!

Tracey

There is no tax if you buy at Shades of Green or on base.

Yes, the tickets are the same price for all ages.

The value of SoG depends on how you look at it. Yes, it is the least expensive option across the board, especially for a larger room. We prefer to pay more to stay at a Disney resort for the added perks. To each their own, there.
